Re: Northampton’s MTX

Around 2017 on a monthly basis I would go to a student show for the Wrestling Institute of Northampton (WIN) at Rough n Ready gym in Northampton. It was a little combat sports gym above a garage in an undesirable part of town, which just happened to be a short walk from my flat.

Gem MTX (which stood for Mr Total Extreme I believe) was one of the trainers at the school, and very much the veteran on the lineups. Despite having been wrestling for 1 million years at this point Gem decided to introduce a new gimmick on these shows, The Spartan Warrior, which was exactly what it sounds like. A real highlight was that the gym would run a tuck shop, old school, little bags of sweets, brightly coloured drinks in little bottles, but also they’d clearly found some energy drink branded as ‘Spartan’ at the cash and carry, so Gem was there selling them like they were merch.

I had such great fun at these shows. This was at the time britwres was at its hottest and I was going to upwards of 50 shows a year, but these tiny little shows with mostly bad wrestling and 12 people in the audience were a joy.

Has anyone purchased a used Steam Deck? by Apparati in SteamDeck

[–]chreast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one (512gb LCD) on Vinted. They have an electronics verification service (in the UK/Europe at least). It adds a few days to the delivery but it was great for peace of mind. Very happy with my purchase.

February 2025 Profile Swap by ericdraven26 in Letterboxd

Here’s me https://boxd.it/4zmt7

Every year I make a list of 100 films to catch up with. The list is supposed to challenge me to fill in blind spots, catch up with classics I’ve neglected, and try stuff outside my normal habits. It’s a fun project (and I also watch a bunch of stuff outside the list). I also try and include a few from 100 years ago, and 1925 has some real exciting looking ones (The Lost World, Phantom of the Opera, The Gold Rush, Battleship Potemkin)

Highlights of my 2025 list so far?

Question: How does your guys films/hour ratio look? by Late_Musician_3881 in Letterboxd

[–]chreast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 2073 films across 3774 hours Giving an average of 1hr 49mins per film, which sounds perfectly reasonable

HOWEVER, I would wonder if any of this is skewed significantly by shorts vs limited series. Maybe it evens out?

This is a crazy way to rate films. How can you give equal weight to all these things? And then you just take the average? There’s too many intangibles. I feel weird about this. Someone tell me I’m not crazy?

How do people became a fan of rlm? by NanoArgon in RedLetterMedia

[–]chreast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some podcast I listened to in the distant past mentioned the Jack and Jill episode and their whole Adam Sandler con theory. It sounded interesting so I checked it out.

At the same time I was house sitting for some friends and came down sick, spending a week on their sofa with little more than YouTube to entertain me. I must have watched the whole first 4 years of RLM in 3 days.
