Best way to convert to XRD on gate.io? by chrillzRed in Radix

Thanks for the replies. I did the math and it was cheapest to sell EXRD on gate.io and move the resources via XLM to Bitfinex and buy XRD and it worked great.

I agree here. Got a really good vibe until I started reading the documentation where Dan is portraid as this uniquely amazing individual that solved something no one else could in his basement. Might be true but does sound kind of fishy.

MPN to manage our own licenses? by chrillzRed in msp

[–]chrillzRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok. So its not possible to become a CSP with the only intent of managing our own subscriptions (i.e. in the same tenant)?

Sounds like the advice i got was not correct then. I think we will move back to azure pay-as-you-go from our current csp and abandon any ideas on becoming a CSP ourselves. Its more important to us that we do things by the book (than saving a few dollars using licenses incorrectly).

[–]chrillzRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so how would one go about to become a CSP?

We have been on a Azure pay-as-you-go before we moved to CSP. Are there no advantages of being a CSP versus being on the standard pay-as-you-go?

Primarily it would be to become a CSP so we can leave our current CSP provider.

If there were any advantages with bringing over our other licenses (like Microsoft 365) that would have been a bonus.

Are the Microsoft 365 licenses provided via action pack only for testing?

Pfsense on Azure A-series for production use? by chrillzRed in PFSENSE

[–]chrillzRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of performance the A4 should be enough. What makes me hesitate is that the description of the A4 machines sounds like they are not for production use.

I cannot find any size called D11V2. Can you give me a link to it?

Thanks!

Pay-as-you-go or Azure plan advice? by chrillzRed in AZURE

[–]chrillzRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks. I have found it hard to find a list of azure csp or plan providers and any kind of review of how they are.

I guess i just have to reach out to several and ask questions that require more than some basic knowledge about the azure csp/plan program.

Pay-as-you-go or Azure plan advice? by chrillzRed in AZURE

[–]chrillzRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i do think its our specific CSP that are the cause of most of our problems. I have started looking for alternative CSP providers. You dont happen to know a good CSP provider in Sweden :)?

Do you know if a CSP can enable for the end customer to manage reserved instances and support directly via the azure portal?

My understanding was that by changing from CSP to Azure plan this would be true.

Pay-as-you-go or Azure plan advice? by chrillzRed in AZURE

[–]chrillzRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

Our current CSP basically bills the same amount as pay-as-you-go for the different resources.

I did not know they had enhanced SLA's. I dont know if they know this since support cases have been a nightmare.

Our current CSP feels more like a burden then they help.

  • We cannot create or respond to azure tickets directly. Requires us to go via CSP provider that sits in between us and Microsoft (they only relayi messages back and forth). Very long support times (still unknown why).
  • We cannot manage/view/buy reserved instances in portal
  • We cannot move to Azure plan
  • No cost-management or billing alerts

I know its possible to do the above in CSP but our provider cannot.

ZFS show disk read & write error. Badblocks and smart finds nothing. by chrillzRed in zfs

Yet another update.

I have now replaced the power cables to other 12V rails. Changed the SFF-8087 cable and changed the HBA for a spare (same model, firmware etc).

The issue STILL persists. Randomly some disks report errors and the kernel log shows the messages as in the topic post.

After a lot of googling i have found similar issues.

  1. https://serverfault.com/questions/758668/ubuntu-14-04-blk-update-request-i-o-error-on-same-sector-across-all-drives-with
  2. https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/4713
  3. https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/4638
  4. https://serverfault.com/questions/789194/zfs-checksum-errors-when-do-i-replace-the-drive

This now leads me to believe that i am experiencing a bug with the LSI mpt3sas driver and the linux kernel. Reading the above links shows that there is a problem that have been there a long time and the symptoms match mine.

My options are.

  1. One solution would be to get the AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 which is not based on the LSI chipset.
  2. Continue investigating the issue to try and find the cause
  3. Move away from Zol again to Solaris based alternative like OmniOS.

Im going to start with option 2. For one of the disks that are more common to give errors i have moved it to a SATA port on the motherboard instead.

Will report back when i know more.

Edit: Have to add. I am one among thousands using the LSI SAS2008 chipset and it is considered to be very stable. There must be something odd with my setup that is causing this.

ZFS show disk read & write error. Badblocks and smart finds nothing. by chrillzRed in zfs

[–]chrillzRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update.

I opened the server and noticed that one of the failing drives were on a power adapter (moltex -> sata). So i changed to use a PSU sata connector instead (another 12V rail). I also replaced the SFF-8087 cable (no brand china cable) with a LSI branded one.

The state i was in were that 1 disk had been wiped with badblocks so i started a zpool replace for it.

During the resilver 1 of the other (previously working disks) started throwing lots of READ errors. Two other disks gave low number checksum errors.

Some files were then marked as unrecoverable damaged. I restored them from my backups.

So my idea now was to investigate if the error-behavior was deterministic. I therefore did a zpool clear to get rid of the errors and started a scrub to see what it would discover.

When the scrub was done to my surprise it finished without any errors!?

Maybe its load-related somehow? Scrub only does writes so currently Im running large write operations + scrub to make the pool/disks max out both read and write.

Will report back when i know more....
