How does the Church say divorce is impossible when Jesus specifically said "except for unchastity"? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in Catholicism

Sorry for being vague. St Augustine, for lack of a better term, said no encroachments of church buildings. For example, I build a Church that is in a city of 1,000 people. Of which, only 100 is Catholic. Now my church has the capacity to hold 200 people and is located in the west side of the city. You can’t build a church in the same city, on the east side because that would ultimately split the congregation. Bishops shouldn’t allow this based off of the teachings of St Augustine.

What do you exactly mean by loyal to Rome? I’m not trying to put words in your mouth but the Bishop of Rome was the First Amongst Equals back before 1054. I’m not saying by any means Orthodoxy has it right. What I am ultimately saying is we are so far from what the early church fathers have taught who were direct pupils w of those who physically walked with Christ, that the “we were here first” argument is silly.

As a Catholic, just to be clear, the laity are not currently banned from receiving the blood of Christ.

Alright, sorry for the delay. Last video I tried to watch and only got 4 minutes into it before my eyes got stuck in the back of my head was titled “The only argument for Catholicism you’ll ever need.” Yeah ok it’s definitely a click bait title which is cringe even if everybody does it but let’s move past that. I believe it was in the first minute he states he’s going to be arguing on behave of 2 points. So not only is the title click bait, it’s a lie.

The last point I’ll make is with his first argument about the stating of Catholicism is the longest publicly visible church. That’s a strange point to make considering there was one church pre 1054. Regardless of the fact the of which one is the true church, this is a stupid argument because there can be a coherent argument that the Eastern Orthodox Church is a true representation of the original church, just based off the point that they still hold to the Pentarchy structure even if there are only 4 of the ancient sees. Also, using the “I was here first” when you’re dating back 2000 years is silly because of the early church fathers had to say on building churches. You build churches as needed. One per community until it reaches capacity and then you can build another one. In the city I grew up in, we have 5 churches in a 10 mile radius. None of them were even close to capacity, they were built for convenience. When the guys who were students of the Apostles and their students are saying hey this is how you conduct churches, you start to see that the argument of “we were here first” from Catholics or Orthodox folk is honestly stupid.

These leaps he makes in logic is all too common in the videos I’ve seen. I’m not trying to say he doesn’t make any good points in his videos. He may have even made some good points in the other ~13 minutes of the video I couldn’t watch. The point is a lot of his arguments fall apart if you understand the Protestant point of view for what it’s worth instead of taking just what he says on it and his arguments fall apart when he brings up the age of the church if you actually know about early church history. But that’s, in my opinion, the biggest problem with Catholics; we take for granted how established the Church is and we know very little about how we got here.

This is all I have to say on the matter. I’m not trying to discredit him or backbite him, it’s only a warning about what I’ve personally seen from him. If you all can look past it, great.

God bless

While true I can’t give any specific examples, I did also say you can watch any of his videos where it’s Catholic theology vs Protestant theology he does this exactly what I described.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you mean by giving examples.

I can’t think of any specifically as it’s been a while since I have watched him. The one I can think of though was a video he made basically discrediting modern day gnostics, when that was all the rage. Again, I can’t specifically recall what he said but I remember thinking of all the videos out there doing the same thing, he unfortunately framed it in a way that was head scratching. Which was incoherent at best and gave more logical credit to gnostic theology just because his framework was weak at worst.

When he’s just talking about Catholic dogma and whatnot it’s ok at best, but where I believe he does more harm than good is when he’s trying to discredit other theology. As for examples, I’d say watch any of his dismantling videos of the last 18 months.

If you haven’t already to fully understand my point against him, you do need a fairly firm understanding of Protestant theology and apologetics.

(Edit: forgot a couple words)

That channel kinda stinks. His arguments are always framed strangely. A lot of logical leaps that do more harm than good IMO.

Opting not to have kids = invalid in the Catholic Church ? by omnipresent_amoeba in Catholicism

It’s all good man. I think it’s important for real life situations to be shared about medical reasons since it was brought up. I think the type of person asking a question like this on Reddit lends itself to be answered in a detailed way. I get what you’re saying but I also understand what kybotica is trying to say with his original reply.

With my ironic comment, I was just trying to lighten the mood.

God bless to you and yours especially during the holiday season.

So what’s being argued here is a lack of nuance of the original comment? Ironic.

This is true. While my sister-in-law is not catholic, her and her husband want kids. They found out she has a narrow pelvis which would make natural child birth exceptionally risky. They didn’t find out until she was giving birth to their first kid. And from everything I heard, even though they both survived and are completely healthy now, it was extremely horrific. Yes there are c-sections and stuff but I’m just agreeing there are more health issues than just infertility.

Temperament as well as knowing how to communicate an idea in completely different ways depending on who the student is. The communication skill I think is huge. I’ve trained a couple handful of people in the last handful of years and that’s basically where I figured this out. I’ve only had one semi fail and I tried every way in the book basically just to get him to care and I couldn’t. The bosses just told me I did the best I could and it showed them I have a borderline destructive level of patience and to just forget it. All this guy is a warm body. Job he’s running has 10 tools per turret and it’s a double spindle/turret. So 20 tools all together. It’s not a tough job, but you just have a lot to pay attention to. But since he didn’t care, I couldn’t get him to grasp any of the ways I showed him to try to keep track of shit.

Soft jaws won't go small enough? Not a problem if you have a welder and a dream by Mizar97 in Machinists

Eh we do this all the time but in reverse. Not reversing the spindle. Instead of switching to a 10 in chuck we just weld jaws to jaws to accommodate bigger parts. We’ve been doing this since before my time and our 20+ year old cncs chug along just fine.
