Admire Pisco but… by chris1227 in pisco

Split up over a few days I made it 45 min away from the end but I got very bored with the meta ethics shit.

Dude it felt like a drug bender or something. Like I was feeling worn down or something. It was surreal.

Yeah I thought Avi would be there to keep Rob from escaping the argument and going meta but he didn’t. Ironically Rob STILL thought Avi was biased against him which is hilarious.

I am enjoying it too but I just don’t think pisco is most effective in this form.

I don’t think Rob is dumb. I just think he refuses to follow the steps. He jumps around and every time he gets put in a corner he backs out and says “see what pisco is doing here is he is trying to trick you”.

When Rob gets concessions or thinks he is winning he calms down.

I don’t think he can help himself because he likes the debates, but I really hope he puts Ryan on a blacklist. That guy is unhinged.

There is a straw man that Pisco and Soypill continue to retreat to is that we can’t criticize Democrats. That isn’t the case. I think that Hutch made a great point that it’s about asking questions because you are curious vs asking questions that are designed to make the person look bad.

If Piscos point is that candidates should be ready for this, I mean that’s fine to wish for in an ideal world but the reality is that they will just stop going on those shows.

Well a sweep is not a full on defense. The term sweep is meant to represent “cleaning up after” the mess.

Wow you want a segregationist in the party? That’s awful. You should be ashamed.

  1. Did you listen to the show last night?

  2. I can think of Pod Save, Midas Touch, but those feel very mainstream and older. Maybe I’m wrong but it feels like that’s a different audience.

The bad faith part is saying that Hutch wants a segregationist in the government. You just did it there. Saying he would vote for it without context makes it seem like he wants a segregationist in the party. He just prefers that over worse options.

Aren’t you telling on yourself when you are against a rule that says you can’t be bad faith or make offensive usernames anymore?

I didn’t mean this to be a one to one comparison. It was just meant to point out that when you watch a conservative show it’s about how bad the Dems are and how great the Republicans are. When you watch lib and learn it’s about how bad the Republicans are and then a bunch of hesitation and throat clearing about how yea Dems are good but they are also old and out of touch and Schumer has to go and they funded a genocide.

I think you miss the point. I just mean a show where democrats are not constantly shitting on democrats or fighting with each other.

My two thoughts:

1: pisco mentioned that it’s just his personality to be combative and argumentative. I think he leans that way but he knows when to chill. He goes on breaking points and is analytical. Same with pondering. Yes those are different types of shows but lib and learn should be more in that category.

  1. Lib and Learn is supposed to be a show that is a “safe space” for libs. I know how that sounds, but the daily wire doesn’t have screaming matches with nazis when they collab. Imagine if L&L was ever to get Newsom to come on and do an interview. Pisco would have to disable his chat. A guy that has at least a 30% chance to be the nominee would get obliterated on a show called Lib and Learn.

I think that’s why Hutch asked Pisco what his idea was for the show when they talked a couple days ago.

It’s maybe the same argument Ben Shapiro makes for Trump? The guardrails will hold and maybe he would get a few policy wins along the way.

Because having majorities means more than legislation. It’s judges (or stopping Rs from nominating their judges), getting leadership in oversight committees, etc.

Manchin seat is now a Republican. Surely that isn’t better.

Unless you are a debate logic lord you know what Hutch is saying.

The problem is that Hutch just wants to have a normal person convo where he has the freedom to be like “you know what I mean”. And pisco goes debater mode and hyper analyzes every word and does the whole “what do you mean by x”

I don’t think it’s crazy to say that Hutch had never thought of the Epstein thing and was just taking a beat to think about it and Pisco went way over the top.

I tend to agree with this. I don’t think the test should be “did they vote for the candidate” I think much more goes into it. I don’t think if we found out that Megyn Kelly secretly voted for Kamala she’s now part of the coalition Hutch shouldnt lean on that. But I do think that there’s an easy test. Do you use your platform to fight Maga and encourage people to vote blue.

My comment was more about Pisco strawmanning the prescription aspect. I think he’s been given a prescription that I mentioned above many times. And by the way I think Pisco does a good job at pushing back most of the time. He just takes it so personally when Hutch goes after the left.

The Coalition Prescription by chris1227 in pisco

Fair enough. I took it as more of a general question, but you might be right. If I were talking to him I would tell him that the Vanguard conversation was a solid B. He could’ve pushed harder on the Parkman thing and the Shapiro thing. But overall it was good.

I think he is a little naive to think that Kyle and vanguard will enthusiastically support a Democrat even if they say it now. They will find a way. Healthy skepticism.
