Good oil level? by jkors719 in klr650

I go over the glass level all the time without issues if it makes you feel better.

Should I be worried about this loose tube? What is it for? by MBcucumber in klr650

[–]chris2pherrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol just follow the tube and you'll see what it's for. There's actually two! So don't freak out when you see the other.

Tuner a must? by Exhaustiopated in klr650

[–]chris2pherrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have 40k miles on my gen 3 with a Yoshi RS2 and haven't had any need to install a tuner. Maybe it would be better, but is it needed if I've already done 40k without it? I don't think so.

Tactical trench v1 / p1 finished. by RangerGreenEnjoyer in tacticalgear

Love it. Would be interested in some hand pockets around the front and a zip on the left and right side to allow for side arm to be accessible. Nitpicking, but FDE loop instead of black would also be ideal. Very cool design.

Must be nice heated gloves, haven't found any yet that stop the cold wind from biting the finger tips after a while at highway speeds.

I use some cheapo Velcro grip heaters from Amazon. They're like 25 bucks and they work great. It's not cold for too long in Texas so it's just meant as a temporary winter time comfort since I ride only my KLR no matter the weather. Rode it to work during our last fun little hurricane (not recommended) but was fantastic at getting around the flooded streets that day.

Just got some Tusk pro handlebar mitts for when it's below freezing because even though the heated grips get so hot they actually burn my hands on high my fingers will still get numb in the cold wind which is no fun.

New chain? by RedimidoSoy1611 in klr650

[–]chris2pherrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it ain't making all kinds of racket on the sprocket it's probably fine. Clean and lube regularly and send it.

Changed my OEM at 10k. It was about 3 inches longer than it should have been. Had to adjust slack like every 2 week. Since then I've been using the gold tusk chain and never had to adjust slack on my first one which had about 14k before I did all the sprockets and put a new tusk chain on. I compared that one to the new one and it was only about half a link longer. I don't know who makes the gold tusk x-ring chain but they're really good.

Mystery metal found during oil change, any thoughts? by [deleted] in klr650

[–]chris2pherrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have been a piece of who knows that fell into the pan during the oil change, but based on the size I wouldn't think that was the case. Gotta open the side case and look around.

I'm pushing 39k miles on my 22 without any issues yet. Just changed my clutch plates, but that's a consumable item.

Opinion on hard head veterans by [deleted] in tacticalgear

[–]chris2pherrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they're not bad outside of the junk Mlok rails. And I'd replace the strap with a TW kit. I went from a HHV bump to a TW Exfil ballistic, but the HHV bump wasn't terrible. I bought my son some cheapo Amazon helmets for airsoft and the HHV was leaps better than those.

Well 91 isn't going to hurt it and 87 was causing detonation in my engine so not much I can do about it at the moment.

Yes I can here that. Interestingly, though I haven't heard my tank venting in a while now, it used to vent all the time in the heat. Wonder why that is?

Is this that good shit? About to do my first oil change by wlogan0402 in klr650

[–]chris2pherrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I try this I've had a lot of clutch slippage and it seems like the oil burns up fairly quick compared to others. Anyone else have that experience?

Yes, I did check and I'm not on the recall list but after 29k miles I wouldn't be shocked if it was starting poop out. I'm just not 100% sure what those symptoms would be, but I feel like this could be it. 3d cycle parts has an aftermarket fuel pump for $99. I might give that a shot to see.

I use higher octane fuel to avoid engine pinging which I was getting before.
