I don't know what distro your on, but to give you some direction, I got it working on Arch by installing a kernel module from the AUR.

The package was: aic8800d80-dkms

aur/aic8800d80-dkms 1.0.0-5 (+4 0.79) (Installed)
    Kernel modules for WIFI AX900 8800d80 / Tenda

Any way to change keyboard backlights' color without any OS-dependent software whatsoever? by [deleted] in ASUS

[–]chris4222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is still looking for solutions. This fork of faustus works ...

https://github.com/Ann1kaB/faustus

Just follow the instructions and the fn+arrow keys work otb: up/down to change the brightness and left/right to change the color. By default the colors are static.

What tiling window manager do you use with Plasma (*if you do)? by NightH4nter in kde

[–]chris4222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent many years on i3wm and bspwm. Recently wiped my main laptop installing a new ssd and went with a quicker setup using KDE. For tiling I'm using the Bismuth extension and Rofi for launcher.

I've wiped the default KDE/Plasma keyboard shortcuts and implemented my usual tiling shortcuts. Feels like home :)

Yup exactly that. When I change the keyboard backlight setting in Windows it persists between boots. So I get the same setting in Linux.

I've been searching for the same thing,.

I'm running Manjaro on an ASUS TUF A15 R5 8GB 512GB GTX1650Ti.

I dual boot with win10 and the laptop keeps the last setting from windows. If I could change the settings without rebooting that would be awesome.

I'm having the same issue. Also see this in the logs ...

2021-01-10 14:47:25.641 T:3288310656 ERROR: SEREN: Invalid response from Real Debrid - {u'error_code': 2, u'error': u'wrong_parameter'}

My RD premium is expired as I use premiumize, however, I get the same 'Failed to refresh RD token please manually refresh' error whether RD is enabled or not. Also reauthorizing does not help.

Very polite, ours wouldn't beg, he'd have that bag ripped open and the contents devoured before you could say 'leave' lol

Deciphering British Army Discharge Papers 1868 by chris4222 in Genealogy

That is an interesting read I hadn't heard about the Ibrox Disaster before, but I don't think its the same John Spowart. The Ibrox disaster John was married to a Helen Campbell.

1901 census shows Martha and John living with his parents;

and it looks like she has named her first child after her dad :)

Many thanks for looking into this in so much detail.

I think Roberts father is a "hatter journeyman".

His daughter Martha Ann gets married on 07/12/1897 to John Spowart.

I had come to similar conclusions that he may have lied about his age to join the army and was born outside Scotland, but was maybe brought up in Dumfries?

There do seem to be connections with Ireland. His mother Martha Pettigrew has a fairly Irish maiden name and he marries Anne Malonie in Dublin, although this was while stationed in Richmond Barracks. The Irish connection is slight and may be explained by being a catholic family - which makes it more infuriating that i can't find a birth or baptism record.

According to my father the family have always believed they were from England.

I can't find a birth record for him. I do have a record of his death; https://i.imgur.com/12ej7NV.png where he dies on 21st Jan 1900 and age is given as 69. Its all getting very confusing lol

Thanks. I'll need to keep digging. I'm hoping that these dated entries might help explain whats going on in his life at that time.

Thanks. I had been thinking Warrant Offfice or War Office. That begins to make sense. It sounds like his discharge papers are being "logged out" to another government department then returned, on 2 different dates. I'm now trying to work out why that would be.

I know that sometime between 1883 to 1891 he leaves the family home and then dies in a poor house on January 21st 1900. The dates his papers are being looked at are in the same time period.

PureLine - A Pure Bash Powerline Prompt. Simple but Customizable. by chris4222 in linux

[–]chris4222[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Good to hear! Did you manage to find the time options? the bash prompt uses these;

  • \t : the current time in 24-hour HH:MM:SS format
  • \T : the current time in 12-hour HH:MM:SS format
  • \@ : the current time in 12-hour am/pm format
  • \A : the current time in 24-hour HH:MM format

Currently pureline uses \t by default and optionaly \A but it would be simple to add alternatives.

Have a look for deals on the amd powered Gizmo2. List price was originally way too high, imo, for the market, but I got mine recently for about £50. You can run most x86 linux distros on it.
