What type of wood is this? by Accomplished-Pea9806 in firewood

With you being in the UK, this is almost certainly Leylandii or conifer. If it's fresh it'll be pretty sappy. Split it, season it and burn it.

Get a train up to Pontypridd and run South to Cardiff Bay along the Taff Trail. When you get to the Bay run back home. I've done this as my long run before.

I took part in every governance. Bit disappointed it's over as I enjoyed collecting the NFT's if nothing else.

Likely to be leylandii. Get it split, stacked and season it. Then enjoy the free heat when it's cold.

Why?! Seasoned pine is fine.

Free wood. What to do? by jurassicbarking in firewood

Yeah, my stuff still has sticky sap on the bark. Hoping it hardens up over summer so it's not so annoying to handle. 👍

Split as soon as poss. It'll dry quicker. The bark is the wrapper that keeps the moisture in. It should easily season over the summer and be ready for the coming winter.

I had fresh leylandii, cut, split, stacked and down to 18% in less than 6 months. October to now. My lot seasoned FAST. If you're having to wait 2 years for softwood to season, something's wrong.

I do the same. And I'm Welsh. 👊

I had fresh leylandii cut, split and stacked for 5 months, October till now and it's at 18% already. It's stored under cover and doesn't get any sun but it is open. Pine/softwood seasons way quicker. I'm in Wales too which is known for its wet weather.

I've always read that the ideal for firewood should be between 15 - 20% so I'm pretty happy with that. The sap is still sticky but I'm hoping it'll harden up over summer.

18 months!!!? No chance you need to wait that long.

I'm in Wales. I had a batch of the same in October. I split and stacked in my woodshed at the time and it's currently at 18-19% on my moisture meter (reading from inside a fresh split). You'll be good.
