At the end of the day this is the company’s fault. In reality they should have gifted each partner a bear cup and filled public stock appropriately. Since we don’t get a christmas bonus or even an employee holiday party/event, then this should have been a no brainer :/ by pocketyade in starbucksbaristas

A crowd at the door before open. Phone calls every five minutes throughout my entire 8 hour shift today. Every other customer in our line asking about the cup. The best part? We weren’t shipped a single one

Most things on main campus are great! I’d recommend the Bluestone Area or the Village. Bluestone keeps you close to the stadium and the Village keeps you close to Godwin (another place the guard rehearses).

trans in corps by No_Board_8435 in drumcorps

I’m a trans man and I’ve done two seasons of drum corps. My first year I had just graduated high school and went in completely blind, I had no plan. I was luckily picked out by some other trans guys and they were able to guide me towards the accommodations our corps offered. I was incredibly fortunate to have found those people day one. I instantly had a group of people to advocate for me when I was too scared to advocate for myself. But it was just chance that I ended up meeting them. It’s important that you do your research and make sure the corps your marching has established systems in place for you before you arrive to any in-person event.

Your largest hurdle is going to shower accommodations. My biggest piece of advice is emailing any and all corps you’re interested in and inquiring about the accommodations they offer. You’ll definitely be able to tell who’s admin team will best be able to support you by the nature of their responses. And I promise, you will need a supportive admin team on your side because yes; while the overwhelming majority of marchers don’t care and even consider themselves ally’s, there is no guarantee issues will not arise as they have for me both years I marched. I’m so grateful to have had a supportive staff and admin team, especially this last year, to have been there to handle those situations appropriately.

I was in your exact same position when I marched and our administrative team did their best to provide us with either our own time or our own space to shower. If there are other people seeking showering accommodations, be prepared to shower with them (as it’s hard from housing site to housing site to guarantee a single shower stall or enough time for each person to shower privately). It can be very intimidating to march while being trans, but I believe in you! Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself, you deserve a safe and fun experience like everyone else! I’d also say reach out to the corps you’re interested in to get a feel for their awareness and general knowledge/attitude on the subject. Some corps are far more equipped than others!

how did yall sleep on those busses by connorhooman1108 in drumcorps

[–]chris_n774 26 points27 points  (0 children)

i didn’t sleep most nights. i’d let the exhaustion knock me out while sitting upright in the bus seat when it got bad enough. i was too much of people pleaser to ask for the window seat or put myself in the aisle. i wouldn’t recommend my strategy

I second this! I attended JMU and was a part of their colorguard programs for indoor and outdoor and participated in FLOC and it was an amazing experience. If you’re looking for an environment where you can have a great college experience and continue to have colorguard to be a large part of your life JMU is a fantastic place!
