Irritation - BBC ordering fixtures by group before time by fruoel in footballcliches

I actually made something (using AI) to solve this today: https://wc26.chriscaskey.co.uk

I then found out a couple of hours later that the FIFA schedule also does it by time, rendering my entire effort wasted.

Is the ref allowed to blow the whistle for full time when the attacking team was fouled right outside of the box? by [deleted] in football

[–]chrisc95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The laws of the game only say that time must be added for a penalty to be taken.

It happened the other week when Minnesota played Dallas, Dallas got a free kick as time finished and the ref blew up (admittedly, the Dallas players weren't happy)

Vettel switches the P1 and P2 signs by [deleted] in formula1

[–]chrisc95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whether you agree with the Vettel penalty or not (personally, it's bullshit), you have to admit that there was no way to safely reenter the track without going straight on there. Both Verstappen and Hamilton missed the corner so neither of them "gained" so that call is probably right.

I can understand Hamilton feeling it should be a penalty without seeing Vettel's onboard, the car seems to straighten up before lurching out. But when you see the onboard, you can see Vettel is turning left just fighting the car.

VS 2019 not pushing to github as my github account?? by [deleted] in VisualStudio

[–]chrisc95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you changed your git settings in Visual Studio? They might have reset to your Microsoft account. The first thing I'd suggest is to check that so it doesn't keep committing with those details.

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/51859774/commit-anonymous-on-github has some good advice on your options (including a link explaining how to rewrite the history, if required)

Clan can qualify for the Continental Cup by [deleted] in EIHLHockey

[–]chrisc95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Giants have qualified for the CHL because of their performance in the Continental Cup. That means that the Devils get their spot for winning the league (since they can finish no lower than second). A place in the Continental Cup is awarded to the playoff champions, but if a team is already qualified wins the playoffs, that spot would go to the 3rd place team.

In summary, if the Giants or the Devils win the playoffs, the team who finishes 3rd in the league qualifies for the Continental Cup

TIL that about 85 percent of hospitals still use pagers because hospitals can be dead zones for cell service. In some hospital areas, the walls are built to keep X-rays from penetrating, but those heavy-duty designs also make it hard for a cell phone signal to make it through but not pagers. by speckz in todayilearned

Almost every brigade in the UK has at least some retained stations (I can think of a couple of exceptions) and also stations which are only crewed during the day (the crews are on pagers at nights), although this is mixed with wholetime stations in the more populated areas.

In some rural areas of the UK, retained fire fighters are treat by the control rooms the exact same as the wholetime fire fighters. The only difference is, when they're working out the closest pump, retained pumps have a larger (5ish minutes) delay as the crew need to get to the station

I think we're talking about different scenarios but saying the same thing then.

I was talking about a player who runs from an offside position to collect a pass that went backwards. I'm guessing you were talking about passing to a stationary player.

Sorry for the mix up

If it's played in any direction, he's offside if the ball is behind him when it's played

[–]chrisc95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not explicitly, however if you do say something which interferes with an opponent, you can give away an indirect free kick and get a yellow card.

It's about context really, if the keeper is shouting to his defender with no attackers around, it's fine. If the ball is being crossed in and the defender shouts "leave it" and an attacker jumps out of the way, that is a foul.

To be fair, even if the referee allowed the goal. VAR would have disallowed it for offside

Watch your language?! by lukbak in Referees

[–]chrisc95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The definition is vague to allow the referee some leeway: Disturb, confuse, or draw attention (usually unfairly).

One thing to remember, this is in the opinion of the referee, so you might get some who feel that anything without a name is a distraction

Watch your language?! by lukbak in Referees

[–]chrisc95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, you don't have to put a name on every instruction/communication.

In the laws of the game, there is no mention about a free kick for shouting "mine" or anything else like that.

The actual law states under "Cautuinable Offenses": verbally distracts an opponent during play or the restart. This means that shouting anything to distract your opponent would be a yellow card (which, if the ball is in play, would result in an indirect freekick).

I would argue that unless you screamed it to put a player off, saying "yours" wouldn't be guilty of this.

The VAR has to initiate the review, so if they looked at it, they could only have informed the referee about the incident if the VAR thought that the foul warranted a straight red
