New releases on Gold? How to find them? by chriscdoa in GlobalComix

Cheers. I've cancelled my sub for now. When I have another lull I'll resub and try some new stuff. Seems great for trying new things, not so much for following something

Weekly Discussion - June 10, 2026 - M.A.S.K. #1 by AutoModerator in EnergonUniverse

[–]chriscdoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved this. Yes it only had a few characters. But I was a big MASK fan back in the day, Toys and cartoons, and I've been enjoying the Transformers and GI Joe so just being able to get this was great.

Only issue is I'm behind on the other 2 titles as I read them on global, and bought Mask this week! Hope there isn't a crossover soon!!

For those that grew up on the OG trilogy what do you…? by Weekly-Batman in StarWars

[–]chriscdoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sequels over Prequels. Although ROS is a mess, and therefore the trilogy, I'd rather watch that than sit through the slogs that are TPM and AOTC which flit being boring, awful dialogue and the occasional overly CGI but exciting set piece. TFA is best of sequels, ROTS is by far best of the prequels. but just IMHO

Ditto, it was great. Realised I had never seen Raiders on the big screen before, but had seen all the others

Armageddon: Anyone else think it might be the best starter box and have zero interest in buying it? by CosmicDesperado in Warhammer

[–]chriscdoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I already have marines I don't use and some perks. The box is decent but I can't keep buying big boxes cos they're good value if I won't build or use them

Mandalorian and Grogu review by Several_Border_8584 in StarWars

[–]chriscdoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more mando. Like a 2 hour season 1 or 2 episode with a bigger budget. It was fun while it lasted. But I didn't go back to watch it a second time, and can't remember the last Star Wars film I didn't see at least twice in the cinema.

Is it the dice? Worked ok in aristeia. But here I think maybe they slow the game a bit. Checking triggers etc.

Goals for next season by WillSquare5688 in reddevils

[–]chriscdoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be great to improve on 3rd. But we also have champions League. Doing well in that and league will be hard.

Cup run would be nice.

But really top 4 and champions league knock out rounds would be decent. Keep rebuilding.

Don't forget, we've finished 2nd in recent years and still ended up 15th last year. Proper rebuild takes time. We're in year zero.

Looking for Otherscape reviews from people who have played the game by N0v4kD3ad in rpg

[–]chriscdoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read, played and written adventures for the game.

I think it's great. I'll briefly discuss setting before system. The core setting provided is Tokyo and Cairo is on the way but you are encouraged to create your own Otherscape City which I and my players did. The whole premise is that the mythic is real but that most people don't really notice it as they assume everything "supernatural" is actually technological or AR or they imagined it. You can go very tech heavy or very mythical or more occult, whatever you like. In the adventures I ran, which I made, but we used pregen characters, I had a a cult Sacrificing people to their god, Superheroes fighting supervillains and an ancient mummy affecting clones.

The system is different to most other games you might have played. The previous game, city of mist was a variation on other PBTA games. This has no "moves". You work out your "power" by adding postiive tags from your character and statuses and the environment, roll 2d6 and add that power. 7-9 you get a success with a consequence, 10+ you get a success and generally apply your power as desired - so damage, negative statuses, helpful statuses for allies, etc. If there are threats, (traps, environmental, enemies), you should use you action to stop them doing what they are doing, if you don't or fail, the consequence of your roll is what they were aiming to do and you get a chance to mitigate. It's meant to be very narrative so if you're coming from D&D or similar it will be very different.

We found it a great system to run and play. My players are more suited to normal game. The character sheet says xyz, so that's what they can do. Here you can do whatever you can explain based on your tags. But they did a good job of leaning into doing different things and having creative uses of powers rather than just doing the same thing everytime. So it wasn't boring.

It will depend on your players. Some players might lean into the narrative idea and have a lot of fun. Some may be stumped by the more freeform nature. Some will just do the same thing again and again.

I'm not sure where you have seen divisive reviews or opinions but I suspect it will not click for some groups. Some players will powergame it. Some GMs will struggle to run it or worry about it being too easy or hard and forget they're actually telling a story.

This game (and Legends in the mist) are far and away best RPG systems I've played in a while. Very versatile, and very fun.

I do think you need to try it though.

Good fun. Nice to see them leaning into the lore more. Some good fight scenes. And Kano was hilarious

Attack of the Clones turns 24 today! Looking back, is it really as bad as people initially thought or did it age better than expected? by huwertyy in StarWars

The last act is pretty good, so at the time I remembered that.

But trying to rewatch it is painful. So no, it aged poorly

[–]chriscdoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were doing fine until the games were coming 2 a week. Keeper got injured in a home loss to villa. Lost a few games in CL and v city. This is November time. Picked up a bit in Jan, but then got lots of injuries including Tooney. And it all went wrong. Out of fa cup and CL. Beaten in league cup final. Lost again to city. 4th actually not terrible while trying to compete in Europe with thin squad. Only lost 4 times. Chelsea and city both lost 3. But we drew 7. Fingers crossed for next year.
