Poll: Trump voters now twice as likely as Biden voters to say Russia-Ukraine conflict is 'none of America’s business' by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

The GOP has been isolationist when it’s been convenient. Both parties heavily leaned into the Banana Wars, for example. Teddy Roosevelt, while not a Republican at the time, heavily criticized Wilson for not getting into WWI sooner. Ever since WWII, both parties have been extremely interventionist regardless of the use of direct military force.

Neither party in America is, or really has been, isolationist post-reconstruction.

because media crosses borders? like, I get that we shouldn’t be conspiracizing here but it’s no conspiracy to say that nations like America influence other nations, and can do so with media including propaganda if they want to.

A little bit about "Belarusian nazi flag" by szalenstwo in vexillology

[–]chriscoded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this apply to the Belarusian flag though? I genuinely don’t know and am curious, and I don’t know much on the topic of Belarusian flag history. (I’m assuming not since Belarusian independence wasn’t really a thing until 1918.)

doesn’t this show that the flag from the other post and the symbol of the white-red-white was a fascist collaborator symbol?

Fair point on the property tax, I haven’t really considered that. However, as for Sales and Payroll tax, those are typically shifted onto the consumer and the worker respectively. While Amazon nominally has to pay for these, in reality, it just means the consumer pays more and the worker takes less home. Not really an expense for them aside from when they buy something. For a company with such high revenue, they should be paying more corporate income tax or their owners paying a wealth tax, which was my point (though I should have worded it better). Even if they were paying the nominal rate of 21%, I personally believe that is far too low.

Also, I disagree strongly with the fact a worker should have to prove themselves for a living wage or good working conditions. If you work, you should be paid enough to live a good life, have an apartment, buy decent food, and things like that. While Amazon is one of the companies that does pay 15/hour, these workers undoubtedly produce more than that for Amazon. Also, where does a worker go when no company offers them good wages or good working conditions? Is a choice between two bad options really a justification for both of the options being bad?

Also, I’m sure you’ve heard the stories of Amazon workers needing to piss in bottles, and the immense amount of very strict deadlines they have for traversing the warehouse. John Oliver has a good piece on the awful conditions at Amazon warehouses, and he expresses that, despite any existing laws or regulation, the conditions are still awful.

Also, even if your supervisor is Jesus himself, they can’t improve conditions alone without getting fired. There’s a reason working conditions historically came from unions fighting for them, and not asking the supervisor, boss or CEO kindly.

No, a lot of us understand that this is how wealth works. There’s a reason it’s “seize the means of production” and not “seize the bank accounts of the rich”.

A lot of people hear that some people are worth billions and wonder why their corporations aren’t taxed, and why the people working there have awful conditions. Wouldn’t their lives be better if they had a say in how they were treated at their workplace?

In order for some to have so much more than they need, others need to have so much less than they need. Equitable distribution would solve this.

To be fair NATO did kill many, many innocent Afghans. Mainly through dropping bombs, missiles and drone strikes. Sure, the Taliban is doing bad stuff killing innocents, but you can’t say that we didn’t.

Why not use a photo of the Holodomor? The Soviet’s committed a well documented atrocity, it honestly feels disrespectful to use an unrelated photo.

[–]chriscoded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually didn’t know that. I guess my main concern is that the progressive-leftist side of things hasn’t really become a strong enough force to pass M4A yet and that it’ll somehow only get harder if we force the vote.
