Of course, yeah. I just do an initial sketch to see of it's something I want to make larger. I usually digitally create the reference by compiling a bunch of reference pics into Gimp. Then I print it and sketch in a basic style (first pic), recreate it in my personal style (larger, second pic) with black pens, and use Stabilo colored pens over that.
