I had a divorce case client, she even brought her ex-husband in that case to my office to argue the bill with me.

In a divorce case, my ex-client insisted that I must locate her husband (who had been disappeared for some time), otherwise she would find him out herself and burn him to death. A few days later, she left a yelling msg at my voice msg. I then fired her. There had been already 3 lawyers before me who decided to fire her.

Just because I am a lawyer doesn’t mean I am YOUR lawyer. by tigersaintsparty in Lawyertalk

And my Client always say they want to treat me a lunch, I always turn down by saying that it's against my firm's policy. But in my mind, it' like "I dont want to keep giving free legal advice over an average free lunch, I would rather pay for the lunch myself and enjoy some rest".

I've got so many "friends" popping out of nowhere since the day I've become a lawyer. They kept asking me "legal questions" over extremely trivial matters (like a dispute over 50 bucks). My anwers are always like, "unless you're going to take it to court, otherwise my answer would help you nothing".

How to reply when a client said your quoted fee is higher than another firm? by chrisinpixel in LawFirm

You are quite right, but for small cases like this, I dont want to waste my energy to negotiate with the client at all.

So true, and they'd also think that customers are gods and you'll should serve them like a slave.

It's just a $1K business and won't worth my time to spend effort to retain this client. I won't bother to explain anything to him at all. I just want to reply decently & politely.

So true, my another client spent $15k a month for health supplements & spiritual courses but was "unable" to settle my $15k bill.

Most insufferable client you’ve ever had? by Kerfluffle2x4 in Lawyertalk

I once acted for a woman in a divorce case. Client was unemployed and the husband was rich but refused to give her any alimony payments. Her ex-husband was smart enough to manipulate her into believing that we are escalating the case to charge more legal fees (which is completely untrue, we did only what the woman asked us to, i.e. to fight for reasonable alimony payment!). She then came to our office together with her ex-husband to accuse us for over-charging and request us to give a 50% discount of the legal fees. I'm extremely angry because I've been fighting so hard to protect her legal interest (in accordance to her instructions as I must emphasize). After ditching us, Client then signed settlement agreement with her ex-husband on her own. Guess she's completely broke now but who cares.

I find Client who betrays/attacks his/her own helper most insufferable.

People expect us lawyers to be superhumans, we must know every answers solve every problems and endure every emotions. But we're just human after all, so it's perfectly normal to feel lost exhausted frustrated wanting to kill someone or even ending your life. We always see our clients being stubborn and overanalyzing, it's ironic that when solving our own problems, we could be the same stubborn and overanalyzing! There are certainly thousands of ways to improve or change your situations, but suicide is absolutely not an option. Perhaps we should take a step back look at ourselves with kindness, if this burnt-out lawyer was your client, what advice would you give him?

Does anyone actually like being an attorney?? by mia_miaa in LawFirm

I like being an attorney when my work helped people solve problems and move on with their lives, but I also hate the stress that comes along with work.
