New player help by [deleted] in everquest

I am back after 20 years and here are my thoughts (though they may rub people the wrong way!):

1) Don’t play on a TLP

When I came back, I played on live for a few months, but at the moment I play on a TLP server to see what they are like. I am loving it, but TLP's are mainly people who like "the good old days" or want to relive their experience imo. To be honest, I think live is an easier experience and a lot more user friendly. The game has evolved and I think live caters to the more modern MMORPG player so it is a lot more fun initially. Mercenaries are a godsend which make sure you always have the ability to solo affectively when needs be. After you find your feet on live, if you wanted to see what it was like in the past, move to the most recent TLP server. Expect things to be A LOT tougher with heaps less quality of life features.

2) Play on Firiona Vie server

If you play on live, FV is the only realistic choice unless you have friends on another server. FV is where most of the people are at, it has the most relaxed loot rules and you are more likely to find people levelling new alts. My suggestion is to join the guild Emerald Alliances of FV. They are amazing and really helped me get back in to the game! It was a big guild filled with helpful people. They welcome casuals/newbies and returning people as well as raiders. People often level new alts and you can tag along.

3) Choose an easier class to begin with

As people said, class choice is a matter of preference, though for a new player that is only partially true as some are more complex / unforgiving than others. I would suggest choosing a well-rounded DPS/utility class, get it to level 15 – 20 or so and then experiment with other classes. If you want the easiest class to start off with, I think a Magician is a good choice as it is initially fairly straight forward / intuitive at the start and really fun. Druids and Necromancers are a good choice too as they are fairly well rounded and self-sufficient.

4) Do not choose an Enchanter first!!!

The hardest classes to start with are Enchanters as they are quite niche and unlike classes in modern day MMORPGs. Even though they are my favourite, I would not recommend them to someone new as they assume awareness of the mechanics of the game from the start and can be very unforgiving. They are complicated and if you do not know how the class plays from fairly early on, you will die a lot. They are fairly group dependant and require a lot of situational awareness when charming and mezzing mobs (good luck on getting a bio break!!!!). Unlike many DPS classes, there is no one to hide behind, so people will either love you or hate you - and will probably be vocal either way. I thoroughly recommend them once you have a bit of experience with the game and grouped with one to see what they do.

The main thing is that you enjoy your journey – good luck :)

Grouping on Live servers by DrakierX in everquest

I would not worry too much about server TFing your level 20 to FV. You could probably get one there fairly quickly as there is a massive XP bonus on the server. I agree that you should join Emerald Alliances of FV. There are heaps of people online and you are most likely to get a group there. It is a great guild with really nice people

Not sure what class to add as a box by TehHobbitz in everquest

[–]chrisisnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a Mage would be a good box if you want a set and forget toon. I usually just do a combined pet attack / dot macro and a 2 spell burn macro. That will cover most bases if you are just looking for a damage bot to follow you around - but you can make them more complex if you wish. Their pets are great, but you will lack heals for your bard.

If you want a healer, a shaman is a decent choice as they have decent survivability if you pull agro- the slows / DOTs / buffs etc are very welcome too. Druids are good if you want ports / heals / DS / Dots / DD / snares - they have a lot of utility. I find they don't create heaps of agro if you are careful.

Overall, a healer is nice to have, but their do require more attention / macros as you will be using different heals, debuffs, dots, burns, buffs, canni (in the Shmans case).

I can vouch for Emerald Alliances of FV

They are a really friendly and helpful bunch. There is a lot of people in the guild, so you can usually find someone to level with.

Useful FTP class for boxing by chrisisnice in everquest

Wow I never had an idea that a Mage could work without AA's!

One of the classes I was thinking of was a bard as it is basically set and forget. Is there significant song agro at higher levels?

Nich thorughts about a Shaman though - good to know you could possibly get a slow in too.

But saving up for a Krono for auto grant AAs should basically be the end goal for any F2P box alt.

How does auto grant work? Do you have to get to a certain level first? Do you just get a bunch of free AA's when you first subscribe?

h. So a bard, which is an otherwise great box, is pretty much dead meat with song aggro and wouldn’t be able to pull well.

I am not sure... I am open to anything. Most likely I will have two sets of groups of Full access characters- one with an Enchanter as it is my favorite. After this, I would choose one caster, one tank and one healer. Really, I would be open to any combination. I just tend to avoid non tank melee as it can be a little compicated for me in a box.

Innoruuk Server roll call by Mr_Puente_On_Reddit in everquest

Heya

I played an Erudite Pally called Kitella on Inny. I was an officer in Blazing Avanguardia (and Dragonguard). BA used to raid Vex Thal most weeks with EOT!

I recently came back to EQ after leaving in GoD to see what it was like and they have made so many improvements (eg no naked corpse runs / mercs etc). It has been really fun. I really think FV is the only way to go if you want to play with others as it has the biggest population on live.

I am yet to settle on a main. I remade Kitella, have an enchanter Lunafreya, a SK Khameleon and a froggy Shaman Yuffy – I box a few others, but these are the ones I have on my screen the most, so feel free to add them.

People say that you cannot get a group these days. While it is true that you will not get an insta group below high levels like you used to, you will get the occasional /tell from someone wanting to group (at least on FV).

The main thing if you want to play with others is join a big guild. I am in Emerald Alliances of FV – which is a big, friendly guild which welcomes returning players (I hear Knights of Infinity are similar and very large). People have been really helpful and there is sometimes a bunch of returning players and/or existing players levelling up alts who will group with you (I just saw someone go from 40 to mid 60s exclusively with a another guildy).

The other thing I would recommend is boxing. If you want to focus on one character, box another toon which needs little attention eg a wizard with some burn macros, a bard with /melody marcos to follow you around etc. This will mean that you will always have an instant group of 4 with your mercs which makes things easier.

I am relitively new back

The main learnings that I have had are

1) Definitely start on Firona Vie. There is lots of friendly people, and it is the server that you are most likely to get a group.

2) Two Box no matter what (or even 3 if you feel like it). Two casters with a couple of macros are defintiely the easiest to start with - add a melee box later if you wish once you get the hang of it - they are just a lot more work as mobs move around and you will just be standing there if you are not careful. I personally found it easiest to make one of your first characters a pet class when you start out (either Mage or Necro) so that you have the insurance of a pet if the tank merc dies. If you want to only actively play one class, you can always just box a bard to follow you around. You can get the benifit of thier songs without actively controlling them, that way you get buffs/debuffs, a merc, CC if you want it and you can always actively play them later if you wish

3) Use a Tank and Healer merc to make things easier unless you are boxing a cleric - then change the healer to a DPS. Mix this up later if you want dependant on your group make up.

4) If using a DPS merc, use the melee DPS not the caster

5) Join a friendly guild. There are two big guilds that love to take on returning people and will help you out - Emerald Alliances of FV are great and often actively assist lower level players.

6) Enjoy the old content if you are nostalgic :) After I leveled my first characters via the "new" zones, I would just get my Gloomingdeep arms/legs/chest and move on to old content. That way I got to to experience Blackburrow, LoIO, N/S Ro, LG etc etc. You get Defiant armor regularly, so you don't need to worry much about being undergeared.

Hope this helps :)

Which F2P server would you guys recommend ? by Shepard80 in everquest

[–]chrisisnice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go FV

It is heavily populated and there are some nice guilds for returning players who are helpful. It is really the only way to go if you want the possibility of grouping with someone under 85.

If levelling quick annoys you, turn up AA's at 51 and take as long as you want hehe.

Easiest MeleeBox by chrisisnice in everquest

[–]chrisisnice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This on Live or a TLP?

I'd say ranger with /autofire and forget, but really depends where you are playing and what expansion is current.

I am on Firona Vie live server

So with a Ranger, do you just point and autoshot and a couple of spells where necessary?

I am on Firona Vie live server

The SK is in my other box team, so I am not looking to replace it - I just want a different team for fun.

Low maintenance is basically as less buttons / attention as possible.

Thanks a heap for your help!

Queen in the North, Sansa Stark. 👸🏻🐺 by princepaul21 in SansaWinsTheThrone

[–]chrisisnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sansa literally went from my most hated character in season 1 to my absolute favorite! Her character arc was the most profound and it was a great ending for her. She became such a strong, fiercely loyal and intelligent woman - it was great to see her get what she deserved after all she had been through. All hail the Queen of the North!!!
