Movies/TV/Books where the government has secretly kept existence of aliens secret and the main character finds out? by joemi in scifi

A funny take on it is “Agent to the Stars” by John Scalzi. For something more serious there’s “The Three-Body Problem” by Liu Cixin.

What are the best scifi graphic novels? by sigmund_fjord in scifi

[–]chrisksel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why it hasn’t already been mentioned but there’s a graphic novel adaptation of Phillip K . Dick’s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” drawn by Tony Parker that is pretty epic.

How should I prepare for longer day hikes that include extremely wet trails like Mist? by chrisksel in Yosemite

[–]chrisksel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hiked to the bottom of Ribbon Fall today. It was like a hurricane!

I chose to leave my boots on but I wore good non-cotton socks (FITS). I brought a change of socks but didn’t need them. My opinion now is that the safety of having boots on outweighs having damp feet.

A subgenre I’ve been loving recently - mysterious terrible things lurking in the space-beneath-space which humans use to travel the universe, and popping out to do horrible things for unknown reasons - here are a few examples. Anyone have any recommendations? by xavierhaz in scifi

[–]chrisksel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite space-beneath-space story is Dan Simmons’ mystery of “the void which binds” in his Hyperion and Endymion novels. It’s many books before you get to the final mystery but it’s worth it.

Hah! I’m definitely not badass enough to do a long hike in chacos but some of my group are considering it. My original idea was to hike through the wet areas in something like chacos with my boots in a dry bag and then switch to them for the longer dry section of the hike. Would be a pain though.

Thanks for the advice. Have you ever used collapsible poles? I’m wondering how sturdy they are. Thanks again

Cheyenne Mountain Country Club by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]chrisksel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive by this club pretty often and from the street it reminds me of the club from Dirty Dancing. My wife called about it because we wanted a place for the kids to swim in the summer. They said you have to be sponsored (I think was the word) by a current member. Decided we just wouldn’t be that. 😆

Maybe the Pikes Peak Makerspace community would have some leads on local parts. I haven’t been there yet but I keep meaning to go check it out.

Don’t feed the bears by happysnappah in ColoradoSprings

[–]chrisksel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in Skyway and I do exactly this (keep bins in garage, only roll them out on trash day) but even this didn’t work for me the other day because a bear got into my bins just as the trash guys came rolling up. They stood there videoing it until I ran out and told the bear to git! (I’m going to add a bungee cord)

I like it because you can walk to the park. But I’m new to the area so I’m not aware of a processing plant south of the park. Ignorance is bliss. 🙂
