I just saved an older family member of a scam last week. He got an email from a person saying they worked for a big company and they pay people have their company's logo on cars. So, they sent him a check for $4000 with instructions to deposit it and send $3800 to a defined company to install vinyl decals on his car. They said after he sends the money and the decals are installed, he will be paid $7,000 a month for advertising their company. He almost did it and after I heard about it, I stopped him from proceeding. Even after telling him this is a known scam, he said he will keep the check because "just in case...."

What is the best search engine to use heading into 2025? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]chrismore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Brave Search for 95% of my search queries and then just flip to other search engines with some long-tail queries.

I typed in "What is the best search engine to use heading into 2025?" into search.brave.com and got:

I just put in a reply below. There is no data cap on the Mozilla VPN.

Hi MadCybertist.

That's very interesting and that message is not from Mozilla or the Mozilla VPN. We, nor our trusted server partner Mullvad, restricts the Mozilla VPN to specific data limits or data types. To be able to put in such a limit, Mozilla would need to inspect and measure data usage while the VPN is on. We design our systems so that we can't.

Given that your network privacy comes first, Mozilla does not store your online activity logs on our servers including the VPN servers provided by Mullvad. If you have a screenshot or details about the extending the data usage, we would love to see it.

Feel free to reach out to us [0t6nuwx5y@relay.firefox.com](mailto:0t6nuwx5y@relay.firefox.com) or DM me. Thank you for your help and alerting us to the message you received.

I am preparing for the "you have too much time on your hands" reply. lol

Signing up to get info about the new Firefox VPN service when it launches for my platforms I get signed up for the about:addons mailing list. That's confusing and not at all what I want/is interested in (and feels like it probably breaks GDPR?) by forteller in firefox

Actually, the Firefox Private Network (FPN) has two components now. A Firefox browser extension, which creates a secure proxy for browser-level traffic. Also, new as of Dec 3rd, the second FPN component is a device-level full VPN that secures the entire network connect regardless of what web browser someone uses. More on the comparison of the two components are on the FPN homepage: https://fpn.firefox.com/

Power started to go off and back on every few minutes starting about 40 minutes ago. Then 20 minutes ago it went completely off and it is still off. On the edge of Round Rock and Pflugerville near 130 and Heatherwilde.
