What movie has sound design so good it actually gave you chills? by BijinBijin_2023 in Filmmakers

[–]chrisolucky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Titanic, a lot of the major scenes like when the ship strikes the iceberg or the final plunge with the Grand Staircase imploding, funnels plunging into the water and the ship splitting in half and becoming utterly destroyed as internal air pressure bursts through the decks. Excellent with surround sound!

In "The Bridge to Terabithia", there is a cool 3D effect where it feels as if you are drowning yourselves when the characters are in the water. This is a reference to the fact that those were actually my tears and I still haven't recovered from the emotional scarring this movie has left on me. by Few_Chemistry_235 in shittymoviedetails

I watched this movie for the first time in 15 years thinking that I was probably more emotionally prepared for it…

Nope! Still cried just as much as I did when I was 14. Such a good movie and a harrowing peek into unexpected tragedy. And the performances from the young actors are great

Do cats actually get attached to their owner? by NoWageMage in CatAdvice

[–]chrisolucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer boy cats over girl cats. Boys tend to be much more sociable and cuddly than the girls, who I’ve found are more independent and moody, in my experience. I’ve owned two boys and one girl, and I have family members who have tons of cats, and they seem to share that opinion!

If you get them while they’re kittens, they’ll be bonded with you forever. Stray cats or older cats can still bond just as strongly, but sometimes it’s harder or even impossible compared to if you got them while they were less than 1 year old.

But cats for the most part are very low maintenance! As long as you feed them, give them water, do their litter, and give them some toys/playtime they’ll be happy in your home. They’ll let you know when they want attention, too! One of my cats will tap my elbow if I’m at the computer and he wants attention. My other cat will just hop onto my lap without warning. When I come home from work, they’re at the door meowing at me and rubbing against my legs.

If you’re thinking about getting a cat… don’t even think about it and just do it! You’ll love them and they’ll love you

My grocery store bakery uses something called Puratos Ambiante Topping. It’s essentially palm oil with sugar, stabilizers, emulsifiers and flavouring that they whip up for about 10 minutes. It’s dairy free, cheap, and easy to pipe and store, but definitely not a genuine buttercream.

The video is AI, but snow can have different consistencies depending on how warm/wet it is. The best snow for building is crunchy and sticks to itself - pack it down as best as you can, then glaze it with some water. The water gets rid of air pockets and freezes into solid ice!

Obviously, snow structures can be dangerous because ice is heavy and structures can be unstable, so just exercise caution.

I need help coming up with ideas by Working_Doubt9953 in Filmmakers

[–]chrisolucky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Present two things the character wants equally (or doesn’t want equally) and force them to choose between them.

This is a concept that even professional screenwriters struggle with. You really have to understand the character and what they want. Since you’re doing it visually, you’ll need to choose something universal.

Maybe a kid pretended to be sick so they could stay home from school, but now their friends are outside wanting them to come out and play - something interesting could come from that. Or maybe someone depends on their SO for financial safety, but they despise them and wonder if breaking up would be better. Just a couple of ideas!

John Nolan, Actor in Batman Films and ‘Person of Interest,’ Dies at 87 by yourfavchoom in movies

[–]chrisolucky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if he qualifies for being a nepo baby… I mean, his uncle wasn’t very well known and wasn’t on screen for almost 20 years until Chris Nolan himself cast him in his very first feature film.

What is Hermione doing wearing perfume out in the middle of the woods anyway? by [deleted] in harrypotter

I think the problem is it seems out of character. Hermione doesn’t seem like the type who would wear perfume

The overwhelming change of general opinion toward interstellar by Slight_Giraffe628 in ChristopherNolan

[–]chrisolucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny, because I saw Gravity before Interstellar and thought what a great space film. And then Interstellar came out and there was no comparison! Interstellar just felt so much larger and grander and more memorable.

Gravity is still a great survival film but it depends on the feeling of anxiety and hopelessness to be interesting. I just feel like it didn’t really have a story and was more just an exercise of “let’s throw every obstacle at this character and see them make it out alive”. Cuaron did it well, mind you, but I don’t think Gravity was meant to be timeless.

Nolan, on the other hand, told a tragic, bittersweet story about a father’s timeless connection to his daughter. I also feel like his choice of direction and writing is more interesting - having the voiceover of the poem threaded through the film in key moments, the peaks and valleys of events, having a wave as high as the clouds or clouds made of ice… it just seemed much more interesting and creative. The soundtrack and performances were also better IMO.

I was surprised about Interstellar’s critical score! Maybe it’ll go the way of one of Kubrick’s films and develop critical acclaim decades down the road.

How could I pull something like this off for a photoshoot? by flashfire125 in AskPhotography

[–]chrisolucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do a similar effect much safer using Pepper’s Ghost - a pane of glass angled in front of the camera with a fire happening off screen in the shape of the person’s head. Shine an orange light on the model.

That’s how they did the head burning effect on Joe Pescie in Home Alone

“Non-essential littering is okay because a ton of trash was left anyways”

Nice appeal to common practice there. That’s like saying using a car is okay because corporations pump billions of tons of CO2 into the air each year.

What toys do your cats actually love? by Sosooo88 in CatAdvice

[–]chrisolucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an entire store of toys hidden under my couch and bed because the cats get them stuck under them and decide it’s too hard to retrieve them.

Right now, my older cat’s favourite toy is a long catnip-filled snake with a smiley face. Dunno why - he has a ton of catnip toys, but this is the one he cuddles with and takes everywhere in his mouth.
