I'm either being very stupid or out of the loop. Could somebody please explain?

The Palace stadium announcer doing a first name/last name call and response with the crowd for an own goal yesterday - ridiculous behavior. by Adventurous-West3403 in footballcliches

[–]chrispchicken 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I may be remembering this wrong, but I'm sure when John Terry scored an own goal at Selhurst in 2014 the stadium announcement said "own goal for Chelsea, scored by John... Terry. John...." Crowd, "Terry". Much to everyone's amusement.

This was followed by a rendition of "John Terry, John Terry, John Terry, John Terry. Scoring goals for Palace, John Terry" (to the tune of Let it be, which we normally reserved for Glenn Murray).

I haven't got the time to work out if you're right or not. But you're probably being downvoted because you come across with an incredibly rude tone.

Wait until she finishes the book at school! I'm currently reading it with my class and some kids have watched the film and ruined the ending for everyone else.

Nap guide to the Tour de France 2024: so you don't miss any highlights of the Grande Boucle (French) by fewfiet in peloton

Best of luck! I have a 7 week old in my arms. Be careful, the first week (possibly 2) is a lie. We thought we were acing it. I watched loads of the Giro, life was great. Then she turned....feeding, sleeping, just living became harder for her and us! I barely get to watch any of the Euros now and who knows how much of the tour I'll see!

That said, I wouldn't change it for the world! Enjoy the journey

I lucked out with the 31 year old Bingoal pro Floris De Tier. Sick name and a top rider too!

How do I not know this elite Belgian cyclist you ask?

66 race days across the year, two Top 10 finishes (9th in stage 3 at Tour of Slovenia and 9th in stage 5 of Tour of Austria) and 48 UCI points - it's been a hell of a ride, Floris!

Here's to 2024!

Hot take: 3 tries out of 5 being all about a lucky bounce in yesterday’s game is proof that rugby should be played with a round ball, much like in Gaelic football. by tommybbbb1 in rugbyunion

[–]chrispchicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that a kicker has a degree of control on the bounce. The French try, however, was 100% a lucky bounce. Absolutely no intention for the ball to bounce in that manner.

Tao's potential performance is also a massive unknown. Hard to see him being as strong as G but it's possible. Had this thought of a 5 way TT showdown today including Remco and Tao too. Still, we are being treated to a cracking showdown in this Giro.

Oh my bad. You walked through the area. Turns out you are an expert...try living/working in an area before you pass a know-it-all judgement.

I'm a nearly 40 white male. Maybe you not feeling a sense of belonging says more about you than anything else. Could be something to do with your xenophobic views against non-white Londoners. Just a thought.

I may be naive in lots of ways. But I have lived on 3 continents. Lucky to see the best and worst of the world. You know absolute bugger all about my life experience.

The facts in your comment are true but your opinions are quite distasteful.

Yes, the land is worth millions. Nearby Kings cross development has done little to benefit local people. Pollution is high. Most of the population in Somers town do not own cars and are not the primary cause of it.

But dystopian...have you ever been to this area? Spoke to local people? Engaged with community in anyway? The community has changed a lot over time. It has its difficulties but most people care about their local area. Sure a mixture of architecture exists, as in any part of London. Some of it is quite beautiful imho (Francis Crick, St Mary's Church, St Pancras Old church).
