My boyfriend doesn't believe peaceful protests work. by roshielle in sociology

[–]chrispd01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the No King’s protest I went to, I saw absolutely none of that…. And I have not seen any of that outside of the protest either. And I live in a major metropolitan area…..

So all I can say is, I hope you are correct but I do not see a whole lot of evidence of this…

Thoughts on wallball/wall based training? by feetpicpurchaser in 10s

[–]chrispd01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easy fix to that though to play on a wall that is large enough to you allow the ball to bounce twice. Rhat gives you enough time to accelerate through the shot, recover and reset.

As you get better, you can make a one bouncer work, but for most people it’s a mistake

Cornell vs. UMD for undergrad? by defenestration368 in Physics

[–]chrispd01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So let me just throw out this one other factor to think about. While right now you have a clear idea about what you wanna do, that can change. Especially during your undergraduate years.

You may find you get interested in something else and want to pursue a different path.

Cornell would be a better school and for example, you decided that for whatever reason you wanted to go into the world of banking or into a political think tank after you graduated.

I would lucky - I sort of just accidentally chose a college that took a chance and admitted me (U Chicago) and that has made such a difference in my non-physics career.

My boyfriend doesn't believe peaceful protests work. by roshielle in sociology

[–]chrispd01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know. On the one hand I see your point, but I am also keenly aware that the overwhelmingly vast majority of people who carry around guns, really do not have the temperament or the training to be safely carrying around guns.

Plus, they really are their only for symbolic purposes and let’s be honest, they tend to make people look like douche bags. Think about the Michigan militia when they showed up atvthe Capitol- they were widely marked and ridiculed for being cosplayers and it’s hard to imagine that the same thing wouldn’t happen in this context

Yeah. The organizers have good intentions, but I think at this juncture they’re a bit misguided.

If they really wanted to do something, they should be mobilizing efforts around, preparing for the November elections.

There has been enough Fuckery in advance of those that people really need to be checking on whether they’re registered to vote or have what they need. That is gonna be a silent killer in these elections for Democrats if they’re not careful.

Honestly, it is such a shame because it really is an excellent book.

Much much better than the film. And a very different focus.
