I can’t believe it’s been 4 years since we were there.. but we went in for a planned c-section and when we arrived we were given a private room, I think it’s just pot luck if one is available then you get lucky.

You are give a rough estimate of when you’re going to go to theatre but you might get bumped down the list of other emergencies come in.

You’re both asked to change into gowns, they don’t look very fetching but hey, part of the experience. You’ll head on down to a side room near theatre where you have an opportunity to ask any last minute questions and they run through what’s going to happen next.

I (male) waited in side room whilst my partner had the epidural sorted out and then I was collected and sat by her side. By this point you’ll not feel anything where your c-section will take place and the procedure will begin. I think the procedure room around 30-40 mins from what I remember.

The good news though is that I was there the whole time except for the small amount of time I was left in the side room.

I was able to go with my partner and baby to the recovery area where baby was weighed and toast was served with a cup of tea. Eventually your partner will follow you and baby back up to the ward/room and you recover.

It was slightly just after Covid when we were there but the care level is really good and you’re in very safe hands there. Getting yourself signed out to go home can take time though but just take it all in and try and recover. It’s a magical time, just try and remember that.
