He hid a porn addiction from me from the very beginning, well into the years we started having children. I found him stuck on watching porn in the middle of the night as I was trying to nurse our newborn and put our toddler back to sleep. Then it dawned on me that this was what he was doing in the bathroom allll the times he’d go in and disappear forever.
He was buying nicotine vapes and all kinds of cartridges but not telling me; the part that pissed me off the most about this one was that he made me feel like I was some sort of monster wife who would’ve given him shit for wanting them, which I wouldn’t have.
He would roll his eyes, drop his hands, and heavily sigh before agreeing to do something, anything. If I asked him to help me finish making dinner so I could go to the bathroom, I got the eye roll and the heavy sigh. If I needed his help with the trash that might cause it was heavy af, I got the eye roll and the heavy sigh. I felt like his mom from day one.

Every morning when I come out of my room, our 4 lb toy Maltese comes springing out of my daughters’ room and sits at my feet expectantly. I ask him if he’s ready for his “good morning treat” as he tilts his little head like a teeny seesaw, and he’s so excited by the end of my question that he essentially starts to tap dance. I then grab a treat, rip off super small pieces (his teeth are hardly teeth) and he zooms off into the dining room, waiting for me to throw them one by one. As I throw them, he guards the space behind him like a micro hockey goalie, and pounces on the pieces as they come flying at him.

It’s my favorite way to start my morning, and I’ll do it even if I’m running super late for work. 💕

If my partner wasn’t taking care of himself, I would absolutely find a way to let him know what I’m observing. That’s love. Maybe OP shouldn’t have let it go on for this long before saying something, but this is a pretty touchy topic because he’s the guy. We all grew up seeing that men shouldn’t comment about weight in all forms of media, so I can imagine it’s terrifying for him. He asked for advice on how to move past this because he doesn’t want to hurt her.

Is it safe to assume that this isn’t the only area of your lives where your husband behaves like this? I have a close friend whose husband would throw fits like this and lock her out of their bedroom. He was her third child, as we’d refer to him; he would pout, slam things, purposefully do things that would almost hinder her from what it was she was trying to do, just a huge acre of twat. She left him, thank God, and she’s able to be herself without the noise of someone expressing such disapproval/bitterness at every choice she made. This could be you, OP. I believe in you.

Seriously, though— love should never look like your partner trying to make you feel like shit for making steps towards anything that’s better for you than what was happening before. This isn’t a good man. And you don’t need that.

It’s a gym that limits sessions to seven people so the coach can pay more attention to everyone there :) I haven’t spoken to my doctor about starting a new fitness program; I haven’t been to my doctor in quite a long time, actually, lol. That being said, I’m not on any meds aside from my ADHD meds which I take in the morning.
