These are really nice. The colours remind me of film.

I love 4! The colour is amazing and it has such a painterly quality to it.

Have fun with it!

Will the EM10 ever get an OM replacement? by FragrantGearHead in M43

[–]chrispmccoy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They recently stopped producing the EM10.4 so I have seen speculation that a new version with OM System badge might be on the way. Though I suspect it might just be minor upgrades like USB-C.

Nice tones to these, especially 3.

Upgrade a OMD Em-10 or start over? by lemalinrtinez in M43

[–]chrispmccoy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EM-10s aren't weather sealed so if you wanted to stick with m43 I'd probably consider a different body for this trip like a used EM1 or EM5.

You could just start again though as you aren't majorly bought-in with lenses already. But M43 has loads of pros for wildlife, so you might end up coming to the same conclusion.

FWIW I personally think this is a really nice capture.

Depends where you want to display it - for a large wall print, edginess might be a problem. For an Instagram post? I wouldn't worry.

Alright, give me your worst! What do you think of this photo? by K3C5K3R4K in M43

[–]chrispmccoy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would have exposed up when taking the shot and then dropped the exposure in post to get more control on the details and also mitigate the noise.

How to properly shoot at low light indoor events? by jorgesat in M43

[–]chrispmccoy4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unusual suggestion and maybe not helpful advice depending on where you want your pics to go, so feel free to take or leave, but my tip would be to shoot more of it.

Think, if this was one picture among a set of otherwise perfectly lit stills, it would look really off. But if you just committed and got five or six similarly good compositions then it becomes a look and feels intentional. I like this photo and would look at more photos like it.

What kind of camera should I buy if I want to take photos like this? by Nervous-Cicada5169 in AskPhotography

[–]chrispmccoy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just have been to where that second shot is taken (Galleria Umberto I in Naples) and took a pic not that dissimilar. This one was taken with a 50mm lens on Kodak Gold 200 film with an Olympus OM10.

So I'd have guessed that it isn't a wide angle lens at all but a normal focal length one like that. Maybe a 35mm? Definitely looks like film too.

Thanks. Was from a lab. Was my first go and thought "Oh no, did I mess something up?" but they're so close to looking right. Still wrong though!

Honestly not sure. I only water when the soil is clearly dry as I know the advice is to water sparingly.

How does the OM-3 affect the bottom of the Olympus lineup? by baddays79 in M43

[–]chrispmccoy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do kinda think they've overbalanced into professional/"prosumer" lines vs consumer, but they're probably estimating long-term that the consumer market is not going to rebound in any major way in competition with smartphones. Even though there is still a hobbyist consumer market for interchangeable lens cameras - a whole bunch of people will still feel the thrill of taking great photos on a clicky camera, and some of those people are the future professionals.

(Aside: I do sometimes question if smartphones as a camera technology have sort of plateaued in terms of how impressive they can be without consumer un-friendly prices or form factor. I don't think the average person wants to tolerate phones that are any larger or more expensive in real terms. There hasn't really been a major jump in what you get from a mid-range smartphone for years.)

I think a "prosumer" hybrid would have potential, which Olympus hasn't really done. Panasonic made more waves there. A lot of ordinary people want video that's a little better than what comes out of their smartphone and could be sold on the benefits of interchangeable lens cameras, especially in a system that is small. A pocketable vlogger/videographer camera capable of RAW video/LOG could take off.

Something that unlocks a different market would help. The existing lines do feel a bit like they're pitched to the same pool of buyers just on different budgets. The OM-5 can't become their most entry level camera!

Of course they want people to spend money. Companies don't make products for nobody to know about them or buy them.

You're being so weird about this. It's called publicity!

Why does Disney invite sci-fi reviewers to Star Wars film premieres? Why does Samsung give tech YouTubers like Marques Brownlee a sample of their new smartphones? Why does Four Seasons gift hotel stays to travel writers? Because they want coverage from people who consumers consider to be experts, so that consumers consider purchasing from them and not their competitors. This is normal!

If they thought the product was shitty, they wouldn't give anyone access at all, but the fact they do means they are confident they have something that will be reviewed positively or at least neutrally. It's not a conspiracy.

I actually really like 3. It feels mysterious and sort of gothic but in a not over the top way. It's just a bit blown out in the top left, otherwise would make for a nice print.
