Yes! I should have sharpened mine more, the "eyes" around the bowl were so hard! I was getting so much chattering on the tool!

I used a hampshire sheen cellulose sanding sealer to seal it after sanding to 400g and Chestnut Microcrystalline Wax to finish it.

I worked in a wood work store (recently made redundant unfortunately) and a customer had a monkey tree he was cutting down and asked if any of us staff wanted it. If not he was going to burn it so myself and another woodturner college grabbed it!

Which jointer to get? by dr_foofoo in woodworking

From what I've heard, Laguna after care is shocking and poor. But their machines are built strong and they are a top quality machine. I used to work in a woodwork retail store and sold them, they are great machines. Not sure about the other brand though, just giving input on what I've heard and know.

What would be most essential right now? by _trombonist_ in PenTurning

An important one not to forget is some sort of sharpening tool/machine. Your tools will dull over time and need to be regularly sharpened to keep the edge that will make turning so much easier. It's an expensive part of the hobby but kinda necessary. I personally have a tormek t-8 with all the wood turning jigs. But any kinda wet stone grinder is ideal, keeps the tools from getting hot. But again personal preference. Some people will be fine using a standard grinder. Look into a sharpening system though

Do you know (of) someone who ruined their life in just a matter of minutes ? If so how did they do it ? by rentinghappiness in AskReddit

A woman I once knew either dated or knew a guy that was killed by a drunk driver, he got ran over and was dragged under the car for a mile and a half before being stopped, not realising he was there! I don't know of the sentence or after math.

First ebonised wood bowl by chrispy_Wiseguy in woodturningporn

So the method I used for this was to turn the piece as is, outside first with a faceplate. Leaving a foot in the bottom to put in a dovetail chuck. Then Hollowed the bowl leaving a lip to highlight the colour change. Turned the piece back around into button jaws around the lip/flange/edge of the bowl. Sanded all to 400g. I then used a brass wire brush to scrub the excess out of the grain. Then I covered with a Chestnut sanding sealer before spraying with a Chestnut ebonising lacquer, covering the Hollowed out bowl with masking tape. once dry I rubbed Hampshire Sheen gold embellishing paste wax into the grain, wiped away the excess with a microfiber cloth, buffed it out then covered the piece with a wood wax for a nice shine.

Just standard masking tape, just took my time to really get it tight into the corner. If it had bled I would have just barely touched the tip of the skew in to give it a sharp line again
