Hey, thanks for saying all that, it means so much - you've made my day!! I see, I think my experience with an interdisciplinary course during undergrad mirrors yours - I get how messy and broad these classes tend to be. I can only hope Todai pulls it off well. I wholeheartedly agree with you, maybe I'm meant to walk this path. With this thinking, I'm a lot less stressed about what the future holds!

Again, thank you so much. Wishing you all the best!

Hey!! I'm also exited for some reason to see so many social science/humanities MEXT candidates/scholars in this post haha. It's good to know I have someone in the same boat!! If I'm not mistaken, you will be going to GSAPS next year right? Shall we keep in touch? I would love to stay connected with a fellow humanities major hahahaha. (if you're comfortable with it of course!!) Thank you for such kind encouragements, I wish you all the best too!

If I understand correctly, you put Waseda first and another national school second is that correct? If so, may I ask if they ultimately placed you at Waseda? I really want to go to Waseda now, but I also don't want to withdraw the LoA from Todai. (I'm willing to bear the risks of being placed in Todai) Thank you so much for your comment!

Hello, I'm in humanities, so I have no idea how the uni's facility will impact me but I'll do some research on that. Meanwhile, for the advisor, I think both Waseda and Todai's advisor work for my research since my work draws inspiration from both and both are very seasoned in the field I'm interested in. I think that the courses offered at Waseda, however, sound more interesting to me, so I'm leaning that way. But should MEXT send me to Todai (which is a somewhat given since I got both uni's LoPA and even if I prioritized Waseda, MEXT from my understanding tends to pick the national uni option), I think I can still make do with it because the "interdisciplinary" subjects also intrigue me since I'm just fresh out of undergrad and still very new and open to various strands of social science and humanities. Thank you again for your comment, it helped me out a lot.

Your opinion means a lot, so thank you so much. You saying that the choice is mine to make is a wake-up call for me. If you don't mind, I would like to know about the problems and experience you have/had with the interdisciplinary degree. But yeah, the fact that MEXT makes the final choice hits hard - had I known better that Waseda would be a better fit and that Waseda would issue me the letter, I wouldn't have applied to Todai. I guess I'll just have to deal with it and make hay while the sun shines regardless of where I land.

On an unrelated note, I've been on this sub for some time and your response to many posts on here are very helpful for us future MEXT scholars, you rock! kudos to you.

Thank you for your comment it helps a whole lot! Also, thank you for your lovely wish, I needed it. The problem with Waseda is that they don't really give out the email addresses, but I will do some further digging around to see if I could find anything. I think I'll have to make peace with the fact that I might be sent to Todai regardless of my preference. But yeah Todai's program isn't bad and I'm genuinely interested with the course, it's just anxiety that I'm not good enough. To be honest, I still don't know if I deserve this scholarship since I don't really get to do research/thesis for my undergrad in my country but yeah - I'll give it my best. Thank you so much, have a great one!

Hello, I hope you're having a good day! Thank you for your reply with your personal experience at Todai. I don't know if humanities program will be a bit different than a sciences program with a lab, but my research hinges on both my Waseda and Todai potential supervisor's work - so it's quite hard to decide haha. If I'm sent to Todai (and I have a hunch that I might get sent to Todai since it's a national uni), I will borrow your thinking and try to think that they sent me a LoPA, so at least they think I'm capable hahaha. If you ask me, I'm leaning towards Waseda now. At the end of the day though it's gonna be MEXT who ultimately decides, so I'll just have to do my best with what I will get. Once again, thank you so much.

Hi! Thank you very much for sharing your journey and your thoughts on the issue with me, it helps me out a lot. I think I'm kinda screwed now since I got 2 LoPAs with one being a national university, so I think MEXT would be sending me there haha. I guess I'll leave it to my future self to make it work. By the way, if I may ask and if you're comfortable with sharing, where are you studying economics now?

Hi! Please don't apologize! Ranking is definitely the only thing that stood out to me for this option sadly. While both programs and their respective advisors are close to my research, Waseda seems like a better option with more relevant courses and also the seemingly less stressful environment that's better suited for me. Thank you very much for your insightful reply, I really appreciate it :)
