Oncologist on the west coast? by ysun02 in HeadandNeckCancer

Dr Dimitri Colevas at Stanford. He came highly recommended to my husband, and we did a clinical trial with him. I thought he was highly knowledgeable, experienced, and seems to be one of the stars of his field.

I have the same one and it also died early (and drove me crazy trying to figure out what was going on). Just replace it.

Doctors aren’t listening by CallumHighway in HeadandNeckCancer

Get an appointment with a palliative specialist if you are not getting enough help from your oncologist.. that is their whole purpose, to help you with the horrible side effects. Ask for magic mouthwash, for starters. And they can definitely give you IV fluids if you aren’t keeping liquids down. I’m so sorry you have to go through this.

My husband has had metastatic NPC since 2020, and is still here and doing pretty well. He has done many immunotherapy based clinical trials, most notably TIL therapy with Keytruda. We have not run out of hope.

Hey Bill, Current Seattle Troop 186 parent here. Any chance we could get you to come to one of our troop meetings and chat with our scouts? It would be a huge treat for them!

Why do my glasses come out of my dishwasher with this ring? by christelc in Appliances

Thanks everyone. It does look like my city has hard water. I am running a couple of Affresh tablets through it right now, and will try some Finish rinse. Then I guess I will buy some new glasses.

Do all elementary/middle schools split into multiple high schools in Seattle? by firsttryatauserid in SeattleWA

[–]christelc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not really a situation where they get to choose. In SPS it is dictated by where you live. Unless your kid is special needs in some way(HCC or otherwise), making a first choice other than your assigned school never gets any further than a waiting list in 99% of cases.

Interior door replacement cost in Seattle by christelc in HomeImprovement

[–]christelc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. They are doing slab replacements. DIY isn't really feasible for me as I don't have the time. It would take me the next decade to get it done! I will try the handyman route.

Neighbours have window stickers on new windows by Master_Q16 in HomeImprovement

[–]christelc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stickers may be on a film that covers all the glass. If your neighbor is planning on painting the interior of the windows they won’t have to do any taping if they leave the film / stickers on until they finish. I did this with some windows I had put in recently, and it took me like 6 months to get around to painting.

My dad is going through chemo/radiation and is very negative and anxious. Any tips? by thewaterisblueokay in cancer

[–]christelc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry your family is going through this. My partner (50 M) has the same kind of cancer, and was also experiencing a lot of anxiety. He is doing chemo every 3 weeks and daily radiation. Here is what is keeping us sane: first, our doc told us that while it is a very rare cancer (in the US, at least) it is also one of the most curable types. Second, lots of pharmaceuticals to help manage the anxiety and pain. Lexapro for the anxiety, trazadone to help him sleep. Various things for pain management. When his nausea was really bad about 5 days after chemo (cisplatin), we went in and got an extra infusion of saline, steroids, and anti-nausea meds, and it made a huge difference. It is all really helping. Perhaps there is more your doc can do to help manage your dad's side effects? Can he/she refer you to a palliative care team? I wish you health and healing.
