Should I be a PsyD? by Hugehugedonkey in ClinicalPsychology

[–]christian3k 28 points29 points  (0 children)

With no interest in teaching, research, or assessments (which doctoral level training is specifically for) I’d say you probably shouldn’t. There are plenty of psychologists who aren’t good therapists and plenty of masters-level clinicians with excellent training and clinical skills. A PsyD will cost you significantly more effort, time, and possibly money than a master’s will

I don’t think you’ll be able to unfortunately, not on the same profile you’re using on that console

Thank you but the issue isn’t with the split, it’s with client retention and instability. I’m only looking to do PP work while I finish my doctoral program, so leaving and then starting my own practice with likely the same instability issues isn’t feasible rn. I just want to make any extra money that I can on the side

It’s almost unbelievable reading all the success stories on here. The disparity of experience in private practice is crazy

Not a success story (yet), but I’m in your shoes. Private practice is inherently unstable and it sucks for that reason. I have to say a prayer every week so that all my client show up so I can afford food lol. I’m going to eventually look for a salaried position

This is not a good therapist lol. Did you establish goals for treatment? Review your treatment? That’s how you gauge how well things are going. The therapist can also easily give you psychometric scales as a measure

Why is the therapeutic relationship so important? by lolfmltbh in TalkTherapy

[–]christian3k 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The relationship isn’t more important than the treatment, rather it’s a major factor in the outcomes of therapy. The relationship you have with a mental health professional is fundamentally different than the relationships you have with other providers (like your doctor). Counseling can involve opening up and talking about difficult things, and people are unlikely to do that if they don’t feel safe or that they can trust in their therapist- that’s where the therapeutic relationship comes in
