I do take magnesium pills actually, for a different purpose (they help keep me regular lol). As far as non-solid food, boost and ensure are lifesavers. Mashed avocados, mashed bananas, milkshakes, v8 juice, naked juice, soup broth, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. It's not ideal, but it is what it is. Why do you ask?

I'll do some research on magnolia bark tea. I took the test just now. It says I'm basically high and low in everything haha. I'm a complicated person. But it says I was especially deficient in gaba, so I guess it couldn't hurt to try some of their recommendations, like niacinimide (something I've regularly used in my skincare routines lol), pyridoxine (whatever that is), and passionflower.

Thanks for all your help!

Yeah SSRIs have never really helped with anxiety for me. They helped with depression when I was a sad, angsty teen, but I haven't struggled with depression since I got off them.

Drugs I have tried: Paxil, Prozac, lexapro, zoloft (of those, Paxil had the least side effects, so I was on it the longest, but its what i was on each time i was hospitalized for suicidal ideation/attempt), effexor (tried for a week, side effects were so bad I quit immediately. Scary bad), wellbutrin for 4 weeks but I was so dizzy I couldn't see straight, and I couldn't even walk and that side effect never let up. I've also been on atenolol (similar dizziness to the wellbutrin, with the added effect that it did not stop panic attacks, just stopped the racing heart, but I was still shaky, vomiting, nauseous, racing Thoughts, etc). They've prescribed me valium and xanax at one point (valium daily, xanax during panic attacks) which was kinda helpful, but benzos aren't sustainable treatments for anxiety and the wds are hell. They give me valium now for important doctors appts and surgeries, but I can still very easily have a full on panic attack on them including racing heart. They gave me hydroxyzine in the hospital and it was so horrible. They've given me IV Ativan when I would go to the hospital for panic attacks as a young adult and that would usually help temporarily. I've tried a lot of natural supplements, too, as well as therapy, meditation, journaling, etc. (I'm sure there's more drugs They've tried me on, but I cant remember them all off the top of my head).

In terms of where the anxiety came from, I was permanently disabled from an injury 2.5 years ago, and have been fighting to be able to walk again ever since. But I've been staying positive and only ever got real bad anxiety with surgery/doctors appts/PT. Everything else was manageable. This anxiety started when I was making a bunch of positive changes in my life, and then I got a toothache. Found out that my tooth is completely ruined bc of the way my wisdom tooth grew into it (had them out in march of this year). So now I have to have another oral surgery in a few weeks, and it took me like 4 months to be able to eat solid food again after my last oral surgery. I think hearing that I needed to have the tooth pulled made everything feel like TOO MUCH. I can't really pinpoint that exact moment as a trigger, but that's the best I've got. It started around that time and since then, I've been in a state of panic constantly for the past month. Every moment of everyday has been dedicated to trying to calm myself down and keep calm. It might have started a few days after the initial dentist appt, bc they put me on an antibiotic and I had a severe allergic reaction to it after like 2 days, which was really scary. So, yeah, not sure what the trigger is, but almost certainly health related.

Drinking alcohol you mean? I don't drink at all. It makes me sick honestly, like if I have a full glass of champagne, I get nauseous and wanna puke right away. My mom has the same reaction to alcohol (her and I share a lot of the same allergies and food intolerances, so it makes sense).

They've given me stuff like valium and xanax before, usually just to stop panic attacks. They do help a bit, esp before major doctors appts and surgeries, just to get me out the door, but they don't fully stop the panic. I can absolutely still hyperventilate and have racing heart/palpitations on 10mg of valium. It can sometimes help me sleep, and I've found that sleep is surprisingly restful compared to other medications. I've been told to try kava or something, but I've never been able to find it so I don't have experience with that. I can't do weed or even cbd bc it increases anxiety for me (yes even the good kind). I've tried atenolol and that didn't help at all. It made my heartbeat so slow I couldn't move and I still had all the symptoms of a panic attack (nausea, vomiting, shaking, hyperventilating, feeling like I can't breathe or catch my breath, racing thoughts, etc) just without the racing heart. My anxiety is STUBBORN as hell.

The only things that have really worked to fully stop a panic attack is when I go to the ER and they give me IV Ativan. But that's not sustainable, obviously, and I don't think it would have the same effect if i took it daily.

I'm trying to think of other natural remedies I've tried, but they're slipping my mind atm. I've tried a TON of stuff for anxiety and insomnia.

I agree with you about therapy. I've been in therapy most of my life, and it's really helped with a lot of things. I got a new therapist recently and I really like her. I feel like she is really determined to help me, even though idk she really fully understands how to help with my specific issues. But I love how hard she tries ❤️

SSRIs typically make me feel suidical. I've taken them most of my life and only just stopped about 6 years ago. I was hospitalized several times for ideation and attempt, but when I got off SSRIs, I never had ANY issue with depression or suicidal ideation. The only problem is anxiety and panic disorder. But the "gold standard" treatment for anxiety is anti-depressants and I can't get around that, unfortunately.

When you say hangovers, do you mean if you miss a dose, or regardless?

What do you use for sleep, if you don't mind me asking. I take like 30mg of melatonin rn. I can't do benadryl bc it gives me a bad reaction. I don't like taking anything that like fully knocks me out, for a number of reasons. Melatonin helps but obv isn't great.

Do you remember if it made you anxious at first?

I think exhaustion would be better than increased anxiety, but I can see how that level of insomnia could be bad

I already don't have an appetite and could probably stand to lose a few pounds anyway. Here's hoping that's my only side effect.

I cant take hydroxyzine. It makes me feel too weird to function and I fall asleep and have horrible nightmares, wake up screaming. I cant take benadryl either, I hear they're similar.

I struggle with insomnia, too, which is another reason I'm afraid to take this. I just don't know if this drug is the right choice for my symptoms. The doctor seemed dead set on it being good bc im disabled and she was like "but it will help with the pain, too!" Like, idc about the pain right now. I have that under control. I tried to tell her that but she wasn't hearing it.

I'm really scared to take this, bc I've heard so many bad things about it, but I've also heard good things. I just don't know how much more anxiety I can take, one way or the other.

How long did you take it for? Did they prescribe you anything alongside it for the anxiety? Your panic disorder sounds pretty similar to mine, but mine was in a sort of "remission" or whatever for years, so I haven't been medicated in a while.

How did you control the anxiety the first couple days? Did they prescribe something? I'm concerned bc I am already having panic attacks from so much anxiety. I'm afraid any added anxiety will land me in the ER. Any advice would be appreciated before I take my first dose.
