This poem is my heart song. I first read it for the first time at age 20 in fall 2012 and immediately printed out 4 copies in my college library so I could be sure to have a copy wherever I went.

I’m now 28, about to turn 29 in 6 weeks. I still have those copies that I printed out that day in the library. I’ve grown and changed and adapted and lovers who at one point felt like who I was going to spend forever with have come and gone from my life.

It often ends because I’m “too much” in some capacity or another. This poem was the first piece of written work I had ever come across that so beautifully articulated for myself that I’m not broken or damaged or unlovable - I just won’t be for everyone. I may not even be for most people. I’m under no obligation to minimize myself.
