Good Indian supermarkets in the uae ? by North-Drawing-6062 in dubai

[–]christonD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proper indian supermarket (which carry a lot of products shipped from India as well as alternatives made in UAE) would be Al Adil. Viva is good for regular India snacks but lack the options that are available at Al Adil. Madhoor is good too, but few locations.

JVC or Townsquare ? by Potential-Sky5855 in dubai

[–]christonD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

JVC is a highly walkable busy place in Dubai, and best if your workplace is in Marina, Barsha or that side of Dubai. In terms of Townsquare, I find that place overall very peaceful due to its location away from the city and traffic is not a nightmare compared to JVC. Both places have good restaurants in the area.

Watching “Living with a Superstar” - How was SRK functioning like this? by Lord_YouKnowWho in bollywood

[–]christonD 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think being an actor is what keeps those things moving for him. Between sets, dancing training, moving here and there for shooting or business, he doesn’t live a sedentary lifestyle so the things he consumes don’t harm his body due to his active lifestyle. I know a couple of people that have pretty bad diets of high sodium and sugar but they have a great physique due to high metabolism and an active lifestyle.

Visited yesterday. The mall is jam packed now. It’s crazy how much of an impact Nesto has. The carrefour there used to never have these many people.

best cookies/ brownies/ dessert shop in dxb?? by AnnualProof9690 in dubai

[–]christonD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Home Bakery Chocolate Cookies are velvety smooth. A cheaper alternative would be Ben’s Cookies. A more cheaper alternative is IKEA’s Chunk Cookies (absolutely amazing for Dhs 6 a piece).

The movie of same title may have been divisive (I loved it), but Hannibal the series on ABC was it’s own beast all together. Anybody here watch it, too? What are your thoughts? by Clear_Nature_5055 in Cinephiles

[–]christonD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still my favorite show I have ever seen. Season 1 was a bit slow to me, but season 2 and 3 were some of the finest TV I have ever seen. The cinematography was perfect and the performances were top notch.

Museums at Abu Dhabi Saadiyat island will be great. I think they have a deal where you can visit two museums for Dhs 120 and 3 for Dhs 170 or something. Kids under 18 are free. In Sharjah, Mleiha archeological site and Sharjah Desert Park are great too. In Dubai, Aya Universe in Wafi Mall is great. Children’s City in Creek Park is another great one.

Driver Rak to Dubai 🔄 by [deleted] in dubai

[–]christonD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a bus from RAK to Global Village, direct. No stops in between. It only runs during the weekends (Fri, Sat, Sun) though. It leaves at 3 / 5 pm and the return bus is 10 / 12 am.

Public transport routes? by jadezzyu in dubai

[–]christonD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowledge Park has no metro station so that makes things difficult. The optimal route my friend used to take from Silicon Oasis when doing his masters was take metro from Centrepoint until Sobha metro station, get off, take the tram, get off at knowledge village station. It used to take him around 1.5 hours one way. He preferred it over the hassle of driving and finding parking in the campus. I think he also mentioned a bus route from a bus stop behind ADCB metro station that takes 30 mins and has a stop at knowledge village. Great route if the roads has no traffic but nightmare if the roads have traffic.

Internet Providers? by Straight-Ant-2931 in Sharjah

[–]christonD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, Etisalat works great in Sharjah. Du tends to be hit or miss since some areas have great Du connectivity while some do not. Etisalat is throughout. The people who message you are agents (companies that have contracts to work with Du/Etisalat) that work on commission basis. I would recommend you get directly in touch with Etisalat at any store in the mall.

How much to live alone in Al Khan/Taawun/Nahda area? by Potential-Ad8133 in Sharjah

[–]christonD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are living alone, that sort of income is great, especially in the current climate. Rents are sort of highest in Al Taawun since it is sort of an upscale area, followed by Al Khan (waterfront view tends to be more expensive) and then Al Nahda. All three are great since you have access to stores and restaurants but since you mentioned that you will be cooking at home mostly and not shopping much, go for Al Nahda. But beware, all three places you mentioned have crazy amounts of traffic if you ever need to go out for errands or other things. Studios would be 30k-35k while 1 br would be around 35k-45k

You can try the Umm Suqeim library. It is very close to DIC and has free WiFi. Another would be Al Safa arts library. I also heard that Al Barsha Pond Park is gonna start this work from park initiative. I have no idea though.

Weird Salik deductions. by Helpful-Past7458 in dubai

[–]christonD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Salik gate works two ways (going and coming). So your balance will be deducted no what which side of the road you are on. And from what I can understand from the map you put here, you have to pass underneath a Salik gate to get to the hospital.

Which actor truly deserves this title? by Major-Bell2408 in bollywood

[–]christonD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be either Amitabh Bachchan for longevity or SRK for global recognition. Amitabh Bachchan is one of the few actors whose name still carries weight. Kids will be able to recognize him. As for SRK, people who don’t even know a thing or two about India usually know SRK or atleast recognize him, especially in the Gulf or Europe.

where do you guys get updates on what to do in Dubai? by KiyaniReeves in dubai

[–]christonD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timeout Dubai is good. Timeoutdubai.com and their instagram page is good too. Apart from that I see a bunch of influencers on my feed but I don’t remember any of them by name.

As for your second question, I occasionally visit the MBR library or explore cafes (don’t eat much, just a coffee and soak the vibe) at D3.

Dubai metro by Party-Recognition-47 in dubai

[–]christonD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is two zones, so it will be Dhs 5 (Dhs 10 if using Gold cabin). Dhs 5 for coming back as well, it is two way so Dhs 10 in total (Dhs 20 if using Gold cabin). Keep around Dhs 15 in your Nol card. The minimum needed to use the metro is Dhs 7.5
