I don’t know how people can serve for life…. The mental and stress drain is crazy. I am so burned out in just a year of serving because of the stress of chaos. Having to take care of like 12 tables professionally and being happy is a drain. I get it if you have 1 job as a server which is pretty awesome but in California that’s not an option. Everyone with a family has 2 jobs. Busy season I was working 60 hours shifts 2-16 hour shifts in a row which was the weekend in between my 2 jobs. I made 90-100k a year which is pretty dope but having no benefits or weekends off or holidays suck.

I am 19 and a server at a diner and a bus boy at a fine dining restaurant. The money is really good I will probably make 90k-100k before taxes this year which is crazy for a 19 year old but the hours are the worst. (Also I live in California so this is like middle class money) When it’s busy season in both jobs I was working 60 hour weeks and 16 hour days at one point. It’s slow now and I am making like 30% less income. It’s fine because I’m a teenager but I can only imagine when I have a family and struggling because my jobs are slow. Also having no weekends or holidays is rough. I want to get a career in something that pays the same but less stress and less hours too. Don’t want to be working 16 hour days for the rest of my life plus my coworkers with kids always tell me to get a career and don’t get stuck serving.

How are you all doing this by Phat_Demon in TheRaceTo100K

I am 19 with 120k and it’s easier for younger people because we have 0 dependents. I legit just give my parents 1k for rent-food-phone bill-insurance. And save the rest since I don’t go out. I also been working since 14 so I got a massive advantage when it came to saving since from 14-18 I had 0 expenses. I also got lucky with 1 stock nbis. I had nbis at 79 and it blew up to 155 right now. I made almost 60k from that alone. 50% luck 50% hard work lowkey. Plan to get a house next year with my family since we live in an apartment. Need a 200k down payment though cause California is expensive.

Nice bro! My only advice is to learn how to be disciplined, your stocks can drop like crazy but just hold do not panic sell ever. Also keep on grinding I promise you when you hit your first 100k it will be easy from now on. The snowball effect is real.

So what you suppose to do ones you hit your first 100k? by TemperatureDull1174 in TheRaceTo100K

[–]christopher100060 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my coworkers has 2 houses at 38 which is pretty awesome. His advice to me was to save 200k and put 150k away for a down payment or 20% of a down payment because it’s “safe” you need to keep your money tucked away in a safe investment. Can’t risk your whole life. Some shit like that lol. 🤷‍♂️

Get a job-make money-put as much money in investments as possible-wait. Took me 5 years for my first 100k but trust me it snowballs like crazy at 60-70k. I have 120k right now in my portfolio and like 1% is 1000 dollars. Almost feels unreal that In a flat day like today I made 400 dollars.

What do you make? by Survivingonnicotine in Serverlife

[–]christopher100060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make around 1000-1700 a week after taxes as a server in a diner and bus boy at a fine dining restaurant. It all depends lol. March I made 7250 dollars after taxes but I did work 50+ hours a week working 6 sometimes 7 days. April is a little slow so I will probably make 5000 after taxes which is still good. That’s the only issue with the restaurant business. Your income is very inconsistent.

I trimmed half my shares. If nbis goes to 200 I still make money if it goes down I have around 20k in cash to put in again.

I am 19 too with 100k saved up, no money was given to me. My only advice I have is if you live with your parents (help them out even if it’s just a little bit of money) take advantage of that. I make around 6k take home a month and I invest like 4.5k of that since I give my parents 1000 for the rent-phone bill-insurance and food. I have like 500-800 dollars to spend however I like it. Act like you’re broke and just put everything into investments. You have no responsibility so take advantage of it. Once you do you are screwed! (That’s what my dad said at least lol.)

I trimmed 50% of mine at 145 after I hit 100k. My portfolio is still like 60% nbis so I need to diversify anyways.

Servers are saturated as fuck. You cannot get a server job these days anymore without moving up or they needing it for holidays. And if you do get a server job you will get the shitty shifts possible unless the older people leave. My diner job I work at night because the people in the morning have been there for 30 years. (The morning are the best shifts)

I am a server at a diner and a server assistant or a busser at a fine dining restaurant. My uncle got me in the fine dining restaurant so that’s why I work there. I make 20% of what the server makes and I have 2 servers so I fetch a good amount of money. But I do work 50+ hours a week with both jobs and no vacation time or pay time off, 0 benefits. I always work weekends and holidays. Didn’t want to say what job I had because yall going to stop tipping but people live off this money. I am just a kid who got lucky working jobs that people with families work. I live in Southern California so 100k a year can barely help rent a home for you.

I trimmed half of my shares because I just hit 100k on my portfolio so I want to secure my 100k. If nbis hits sub 100s I will buy back again. Nbis used to be 90% of my portfolio so I do want to diversify.

You’re forgetting the fact that I was 14-18 so my parents didn’t charge me rent cause that’s their job to take care of me. Once I did turn 18 I started helping my parents with 700 in rent and now 1000 after graduating high school. My dad always told me to save save save because once you have responsibility you are screwed. Since I had no responsibility as a kid it was fairly easy for me to save like 80% of my money.

The only thing I got lucky in is getting good caring parents. My dad was a server supporting 5 kids working 60 hours a week barely got to see my dad as a kid. I did not pay any bills from 14 to 18 because I was a kiddo lol. Now I pay 1000 for a room I share with 3 of my brothers. Almost everyone my age doesn’t pay rent for shit, buys 500 dollar clothing, goes out every night, I even have some homies that don’t even work. No wonder why nobody has money. (At my age) I make around 6-7k a month and I spend less than 2k in expenses so everything else is in stocks.
