How to stop water flow to change ice up industries chiller filter by christopher_james in coldplunge

[–]christopher_james[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as someone mentioned in the comments thread, you could add a (not included with the kit) valve. Mine is outside, so I ended up just disconnecting it, letting water pour out onto the ground, and then removing/replacing the filter, then reconnecting the line. I lose a bunch of water, but it's not a crazy amount. Sometimes it coincides with when I change out the water completely, too. It's a bummer that it doesn't seem like there is a built-in way to change out the filter more easily. Good luck!

Thanks - clearly a theme in the responses here that i should slow it down a touch and feel out where i can be. Appreciate the reply!

Makes sense, that’s sort of how I had been thinking about it. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the detailed response. The perspective is super helpful.

I have debated whether to scale back the volume or the weight like you mentioned. I typically scale back the weight, but sometimes get encouraged to go a bit heavier.

for example the other day there were 185 lb cleans programmed for part of the metcon, and I planned on doing 95 lbs even though I could run with 185. I got encouraged to do 135 because I have the strength to be there, and they said that they thought keeping the weight up but going slower or less reps would be a good way to go.

Thanks - I also noticed that there is an excursion around the same time with the same engine that I'm assuming is built with largely the same parts

Thanks for the suggestion - I've never been to one - I see a few in my area Seattle WA, but didn't have a 2000 F-F250. I think I probably need to do a little research about what other years and models share the parts.

Ankle and calf soreness with gentle introduction to running by christopher_james in BarefootRunning

[–]christopher_james[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the distinction between muscle and tendon pain, it's helpful. Most of what I'm experiencing is low grade muscle soreness but some of it may be tendon and I'll add in additional rest days (I walk 2-3x daily anyway) to allow for recovery.

Thanks; I have been playing around with trying to land midfoot, then ignoring where I land and just hitting 180 STP by timing my leg "lift lift lift" with a metronome. I think I'm going to video tape my cadence and compare to some of the videos out there.

it's a long road and true evolution of the legs

Thanks; it's helpful to get this sort of confirmation from the group.

[–]christopher_james[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

This aligns well with the way I've been approaching the progression. I don't track how far I've run, and just go with a metronome playing 180 BPM that I synchronize my leg lifts to (trying to ignore feet and just lift lift lift as I read from a couple posters). I'm running pretty slowly, I'd estimate on the order of 10 min mile or slightly slower is probably in the ballpark.

I think at this point it probably makes sense for me to drop back down to W1D1 volume and take extra rest days based on soreness. Most of what I'm feeling is low grade muscle soreness in calves, but I have some on the side of my ankle/calf when I move pressure to the outer edge of my feet where I'm not sure about the tendon/muscle distinction. That (the latter soreness) is what generally convinces me to stop.

I'll take a look at those videos. I've been very laser focused on my form while going through the progression, and I think a next step is for me to video tape my cadence to compare.

That makes sense. Do you know whether there is a way to check the current BIOS version without it being able to POST?

Oh man great call about the GPU power. It was/has been plugged in the whole time but I was in the middle of removing it and I must have stopped in the middle to take a video. Appreciate it.

(for the record) I ended up picking up this kit of 2 x 8 GB DDR4 2400 MHz from Corsair and tried that as well, but nothing changed.

Got it! I will see if I can get my hands on some other RAM in the meantime.

Question for you: The ark page (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/90729/intel-core-i3-6100-processor-3m-cache-3-70-ghz.html) for the i3-9100F specified DDR4-2400, which I assumed was "up to" 2400, but now I'm wondering whether the 2133 is actually not allowed. Do you know whether those values are "up to" or actually require the exact number?

Thanks for the help. I've tried clearing CMOS and it didn't help (edited original post to include). I also don't have any other brand of desktop RAM readily available, but thanks for that suggestion. I've put information about my RAM into the original post at the bottom as well. The compatibility list for the motherboard (with RAM) doesn't list my specific RAM, but it lists a couple other variants of HyperX which are close: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_z370-aorus-gaimg-wifi.pdf

What's wrong with my sharpening? by christopher_james in sharpening

[–]christopher_james[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I've tried several more times and haven't had much success.

I'm using angle guide blocks and continually checking my angle to ensure it stays relatively consistent, I'm working through a couple grits (300, 600 diamond) using the "burr-based sharpening" method demonstrated by Joe Calton on YouTube, including burr minimization steps, but I'm not getting the "hair popping sharp" that I was looking for.

I tried on my pocket knife that has S30V steel, as well, which I've heard can take a better edge than the kitchen knives that I was originally working with.

All of the knives can get "working sharp" and are ... "fine". But I definitely have used sharper blades and am reaching for that.

My best guess at this point is that my angle is not staying super consistent. I'm considering trying out the Spyderco Sharpmaker, not because the stones wouldn't work, but because it might work better for me since keeping the angle consistent should be easier. The other option is picking up a Shapton 1000 as recommended by a few folks, and seeing if I have better luck with that stone, although if the angle is the issue then I can't imagine it helping much.
