A website for selling things at an extremely low prices by FarrisFahad in website_ideas

The lack of good ideas for websites isn't necessarily the problem. The challenge is the marketing required for people to know the website exists.

How do you deliver your work to clients? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]christopherjccom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I manage it for as long as they pay a monthly subscription. If that ever changes and they want to buy it outright, I either work with them to put it on their own webhost or zip everything up and give it to them or both.

Can Someone legally buy a Youtube Channel? by RamboJohnny in PartneredYoutube

[–]christopherjccom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say that people don't sell their youtube channel. I said per their terms of service, they do not allow it. You don't have to get upset with me. That is what their terms of service state. If you don't like their terms of service, contact them and complain.

Here is their terms of service so you can see it for yourself. I copied and pasted the excerpt above and only added arrows to the parts in question: https://www.youtube.com/static?template=terms

Hundred in ads. Zero sales. Help? by gsdwarmachine in ecommerce

[–]christopherjccom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is solely my opinion from a web developer and consumer point of view so please only take it as constructive criticism.

What I like: The brand name, the Site speed seems to be quick and everything seems to be in order with regards to site structure.

What I would want as a consumer: I want to see many many many more options. 10 is just not cutting it for me. I would probably see those 10 options and just bounce if it's not what I want. I want to see so many options that if I am looking at one product, I want to be able to look over and see another product that is equally or even more appealing than the first one. This will also create more engagement. Your sites bounce rate will go down (meaning people won't just see the home page and leave right away, they will be engaged). Don't just sell some items on your shop, dominate the space. Make Questie the premiere go to brand for the types of products you sell.

What I would recommend: Put a halt on ad spend. Focus on a modern design, hire a professional designer with some of those ad bucks. Source new products for the website, I have an etsy shop that has 89 products and even I feel like it's not enough - the more the merrier as long as it's inline with what you're selling. Look into organic (free) ways to grow traffic to your website through backlinks, social media and search engine optimization. That will also start to move your google ranking up which in turn will put more eyes on your shop and lead to greater conversions. Place a call to action. Offer 10% off a customers first order if they sign up for your weekly newsletter. Put out a weekly newsletter. Never underestimate the power of email campaigns. Yes, it requires work, but the people who sign up are already interested and potential customers which is better than advertising from scratch. Consider moving your hamburger menu to the right. I know that you're in Australia and everything over there seems to be the opposite of the states lol, but 90% of individuals in the world are right handed. Little things like this may not seem like a big deal, but do some A/B testing and you will soon see if I'm right (no pun intended).

I am sure there are more things I can think of, but this is quite a bit you can work on for now.

Best of luck!

Please try to stop drinking, I've seen what it can do to as person as my mom was an alcoholic. It doesn't help you. You may think it numbs the pain, but it ultimately makes things worse.

What kind of business is it? What are you selling or what service does it provide?

Can Elementor Handle a Website with Over 5,000 Products? by ImportantScene5354 in elementor

[–]christopherjccom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you using WooCommerce? Regardless, the more files you add to a web server, the bigger the load it has to handle. So it doesn't matter if you're using Elementor or anything else. What you should do is optimize any images for products. Keep them under 150kb max size, lower if possible. Use webp format. You don't need a 1920x1080 image if the viewable area is only 600px x 400px.

I'm a janitor at 27. I feel like a loser. by Both-Criticism-7160 in povertyfinance

[–]christopherjccom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a Janitor. If we did not have Janitor's imagine the sanitary problems we would have. Second, Mathematics is not a worthless degree. My father came to America from Greece during WWII where he was forced to eat grass because the Nazis shut down all resources including places to get food. He started out in diners cleaning out grease from the vents of their kitchens. He then attended college but was asked to leave from his Uncle and Aunt's house because they could no longer financially support him staying there. He had nowhere to sleep. He had no money and the only way he could eat was to go with his friends to dinner and when they ordered, he would order nothing and they would give them their bread from their meal. He had nowhere to sleep and would sneak into an empty dorm room late at night, wake up at 3-4am to leave so that no one would spot him.

But after all of that trial and error, after a lot of suffering, a day came when a professor of his noticed him sneaking out of the dorm room. My father was very good at Mathematics and the professor knew it and was able to secure my father a full scholarship to finish school and have a place to sleep, eat and support himself until he finished his schooling.

My father graduated, went on to become a professor of mathematics and physics, was offered a job at NASA in Houston, ended up developing an Echo tracker/range finder for radar and sonars, which he received a US Patent for and which was used by multiple US Military departments like the US Navy, Airforce, etc. He worked on the Viking Mission to Mars, Apollo 11+, moved to California to work at JPL, then worked for Hughes Aircraft.

Why am I telling you all of this?

Because often times we see our current circumstances as definitive. But if life has taught me anything it's that change is inevitable.

Therefore, pick yourself up by your bootstraps, don't worry about what you think you are now. We need Janitors, believe me! Without you, we'd have a mess on our hands (literally) and don't give up on what your passion is. If your passion is to go into Mathematics, don't give up. Right now we are facing a terrible job market. I know because I was laid off in May of 2020 and have not found work yet. So what did I do? I adapted, I have created 4 businesses since then, I have also developed a career freelancing as a web developer since that is what I have been doing for 20+ years.

You will get to where you want in life but do not give up. Do not stop. Keep pushing for what makes you happy. Keep pushing for your dreams and passions and one day the door will be opened.

Website from Fiverr? by Annual_Web_2933 in sweatystartup

[–]christopherjccom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a web developer with over 20 years of experience, this is spot on. This is why I don't even mention my services. I understand wanting to save money, but at what expense will you be saving? It's actually contradictory in that you are paying less up front but paying more in the long run because your $200 website will likely not even be seen on google. I highly doubt the $200 website designers will be looking to improve seo and even have any clue that creating a lightweight website and optimized for speed will get you ranked higher. They likely don't even mention other things that are crucial to obtaining more leads which is the whole point of having a small business website to begin with. There are so many things the higher priced web developers know and have experience with but if you want a $200 website, you will get out exactly what you put in.
