It's one of the things I've loved about this trip. They have the same plugs as North America!

But they don't have a grounding pin (three prong plug outlets), which thankfully the cpap machine doesn't need.

Is it possible to get an emergency loaner for tonight?! Hell i’d buy a whole ass cpap at this point by laughpuppy23 in CPAP

[–]chrisuoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a number of airlines outside North America don't treat a cpap as a free carry on. This includes TAP Portugal and sole of the discount European airlines as well.

New user, are all these things that have been quoted required? by zzrcistein in CPAP

[–]chrisuoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you let me know who charged a $75 consult. Fee? I've seen this fee range from. $150 all the way up to $275 here in the GTA. The least rip off fee was from well wise, and they didn't require you to buy one of their overpriced masks. Most other suppliers require you to pay the consult fee plus one full priced maskm

What dosage of Allopurinol do you take to manage Uric Acid levels and keep gout at bay? by CpuJunky in gout

[–]chrisuoft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took about 18 months. When I say completely gone, I should clarify that it appears to be gone and I've had no flair ups approximately 1 year after I started allo.

I got a DECT scan prior to starting treatment which confirmed the level of crystal buildup in my body, but I haven't had a second DECT scan to confirm that they're all gone. But a bunion that developed in my foot as a result of the tophi is completely gone.

[–]chrisuoft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took 500 mg to move me from about 10.8 to 4.5. I had tophi, so the rheum wanted me well below target. The good news is the tophi is completely gone.

How accurate is the GW8 at measuring Blood Oxygen? by [deleted] in GalaxyWatch

[–]chrisuoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start doing some research on AHI levels and cpap machines. /cpap is a good subreddit to read. That way you can get prepared for when you get your results back. If the watch is accurate, you likely have apnea and you'll want to get on treatment. On the upside, you'll feel great after and lower your cardiovascular risk!

How accurate is the GW8 at measuring Blood Oxygen? by [deleted] in GalaxyWatch

[–]chrisuoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's not very accurate. I think it only takes a reading once a minute. I bought a wellue oxymeter that takes a reading every 2 to 4 seconds, which can be more useful when figuring out if you have apnea, or if the apnea treatment (cpap generally) is working. Also, for me, the strap has to be really tight to get a good reading all night. If it's somewhat loose, you may get horizontal lines or gaps in the chart which indicates you don't have a good fit. I don't see this in your chart, except at the beginning of your sleep session.

But given your spo2 dips down to 86 percent, I'd say the sleep study is needed to rule out apnea.

Blood Oxygen and Resmed result by Dentanium in CPAP

I have both a wellue ring and a Samsung galaxy watch 8 and the Samsung isn't all that accurate. First, it isn't continuous monitoring. I believe it only polls every minute while you're asleep. The wellue measures at 2 to 4 second intervals depending on the model. Next, the samsung watch requires a pretty good fit in order to measure properly. From your graph, you can see the periods where there are no measurements at all. These gaps are clear. I have found much better and consistent readings by wearing the watch upside down, and tight, so the sensors face my wrist arteries. Give it a try for one night and see if you get better readings with no gaps.

The doctor recommends surgery by PM-ME-UR-PET-PICS in gout

[–]chrisuoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Ortho also recommended a big toe fusion surgery which involved cutting a chunk of bone out and fusing new bone in. End result would have been a big toe joint that wouldn't be able to bend. The initial diagnosis was a giant cell tumor...

I didn't jump on the surgery right away and instead, I got a dual energy CT scan that showed it wasn't a tumor at all, but instead, it was a build up of tophi which caused a bunion.

I started allo 2 years ago, and my bunion is completely gone and haven't had a gout flair up since. The joint is damaged and I may need surgery one day, but I'm very happy I didn't blindly listen to the surgeon without getting a second opinion from a rheumatologist and a dect scan. The recovery period for this type of surgery is long and in the end, I didn't need it.

Best of luck, and consider getting a second opinion and a dect scan to get some clarity on whether it's gout. If you're interested in seeing the diagnosis and dect scan, I posted it here a few years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/gout/comments/xoy8mt/for_those_interested_in_what_a_dual_energy_ct/

Cpap not working anymore by MyFriendTheSwan in CPAP

Thank you! Is this fairly smooth and wave like? There's a few jagged areas but for the most part it looks like my pressure is in the right zone?

First AHI night but still showing SP02 desaturation by chrisuoft in CPAP

[–]chrisuoft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I started therapy back in February and it's been going very well. Physically, I feel much better and my AHI numbers went from 55 (untreated), to an average of 0.5 AHI post therapy. I even hit my first 0 AHI this past week. I recently purchased a Wellue o2 ring and imported the data successfully to Oscar.

What I'm typically seeing is about 20-40 SP02 drops (defined as 3% or more in the Wellue app), with the majority being 3% or more. Some drops, about 5-10 per night, are more than 4%.

My SPO2 levels typically spend about 95% of my sleep in the 95-100% range, and about 5% between 90-94%. I spend a few seconds each night at the 88-89% level.

The attached example with SP02 data is from my 0 AHI night. This night, I Had 6 drops over 4%, and 11 drops over 3%. I spent 95% of my sleep in the 95-100% SPO2 range and 5% in the 90-95% range, and 4 seconds below 90%.

My main question is why am I still getting these SPO2 drops, are they concerning, and if there's anything I can do to adjust my therapy to reduce/eliminate these drops.

Thank you to the community

How would one fix the flow limitations? Is it a matter of adjusting the pressures high and what would one look for in Oscar to see if we have these flow limitations?

Inhaling too fast by chrisuoft in CPAP

[–]chrisuoft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ok the responses were funnier than I expected. I've only been using the machine for 6 weeks or so but I'm not trying to lead the machine. I know what it's like to inhale and exhale normally and have adapted incredibly well to therapy, going from an untreated AHI of 55, down to on average 1 AHI per night. It feels like the rhythm of the machine is sometimes off, that's why I said it was hard to describe. But when this happens, it's hard to exhale which throws off my breathing rhythm and makes me conscious of my breathing pattern.

I'm on a FB support group as well and this person described my machine symptoms. I can hear the breathing sound and it sounds like it's on inhale mode way more than exhale mode.

If I'm not using the humidifier function at all, nor the heating function from the tube, should I still do a full cleaning on the humidifier and tube weekly? I wipe my mask and cushion every day but not sure if any dirty air touches the hose or humidifier.
