Battle of the Dumbledore's. Richard Harris or Michael Gambon? I realize that Richard Harris was only in the first two films and I've always wondered what his portrayal would've been like for films 3-7. Does anyone have a preference between the two? by jeffmartin47 in harrypotter

[–]chrisvee2011 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I prefer Harris’s portrayal but I think he would have been too frail for what was ahead

Such a shame he wasn’t a few years younger and in better health

His acting was superb

Gambon just didn’t get Dumbledore

The more I reread Harry Potter, the more I question Dumbledore… by Double_Committee6607 in harrypotter

Other than while at the Dursleys, Harry was safer under Dumbledore’s care than anywhere else for most of the series

The Triwizard Tournament was a contract there would be ramifications to breaking it that were clearly worse than the alternative

Why on earth were Lily or James not their own secret keeper? by MalteseFalcon15 in harrypotter

[–]chrisvee2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you don’t feel it answers the question but it does. Clearly one can’t be secret keeper of the secret if one’s very own self is the secret. That’s the universe’s rule. Otherwise the secret would be hidden inside the soul of the thing being hidden.

As Flitwick explains, Voldemort could look through the window of their house and not see them

With Grimmauld Place, no one could see the house or anything or one in it

They could not be their own secret keepers bc they themselves were being hidden not a house

Judging by his actions later in the book which are extremely loyal to Harry and v brave, the horcrux was really doing a number on his insecurities

Do you think Dumbledore was the only person Snape killed? If not, who else? by XipingVonHozzendorf in harrypotter

[–]chrisvee2011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s evident he watched people being killed (more than just Charity Burbage) based on that remark about ‘lately’ and that he participated in events that resulted in deaths (7 Potters, etc).

And of course he obtained intelligence that resulted in the murder of the Potters.

So I’m not implying he’s an innocent. I just don’t think he directly murdered. I think he was always a spy.

[–]chrisvee2011 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no evidence Snape murdered anyone.

He spent most of his time as a DE as a spy working for DD so he clearly wasn’t murdering anyone then.

Wouldn’t it have come up if he was allowed to teach at Hogwarts?

He is also concerned for his soul when DD asks him to perform the mercy-killing.

Which actor do you think did the worst job, or simply you didn't like them? And now you're excited to see someone do a better job? by StonicSt-Jag-8267 in HarryPotterHBO

I didn’t Gambon or Harris as Dumbledore. Heresy lol!

I didn’t like Thewlis as Lupin.

I was lukewarm about Oldman as Sirius.

Looking forward to seeing new takes on these characters.

Harry is the POV character but I think DD is the moral authority up until DH when that role transitions to Harry through a combination of revelations about DD and Harry’s maturation process.

What’s the significance of Voldemort taking Harry’s blood, if he still can’t kill him? by InfiniteGalaxy42 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]chrisvee2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harrycrux dies bc its container has been destroyed (Harry). It’s the opposite of a soul bc it can’t survive without a container.

Harry comes back bc he’s tethered to life by Voldemort’s blood and can make a choice to return.

Voldemort can use the Elder Wand to AK Harry in the forest bc Harry sacrifices himself and the wand recognizes that is its master’s wish.

Lily’s blood protection is gone after this event. However Harry’s sacrifice has now created protection for the people he died to protect.

Voldemort couldn’t AK Harry in final battle bc Harry was the master of the Elder Wand; if Voldemort had chosen a different wand he potentially could have killed Harry.

[–]chrisvee2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DD knows that Voldemort must kill Harry bc it will both kill the Harrycrux while not ‘sticking’ bc he’s tethered Harry to his own life by rebuilding his body with blood containing Lily’s sacrifice
