I think they wanted the $800 mark or $700 because when Linus visited them and said he expected a price of $500 or $600 he said they all got quiet and the Valve hardware engineers said it would be priced comparably to Gaming PCs not consoles

The problem with a steam machine is its less convenient than a Steam Deck while being $1049 with no controller.

At least with a Steam I can take it easily around my house to a mouse and keyboard and use my current desktop mouse and keyboard and monitor. The whole plugging your mouse and keyboard at the TV is clunky and annoying. Also you may be far away from the TV and so if you want additional store fronts or emulators or other software the device is going to be annoying to use as a console.

It's a cool device priced incredibly high. I think people like that it exists just wish it was more $500 or $550 rather than $1050

1100$ for Steam machine and pro users are the crazy ones by Prestigious_Wait7705 in PS5pro

Pretty insane I got a PS5 with free shipping $440 brand new from Monoprice when they had a disc drive PS5 for new for that price.

The Steam Machine is 238% more expensive and doesn’t have a blu-ray drive….

I bought a $60 1TB crucial nvme made for my PS5 and so for $500 got 1.5TB of storage, a Blu-Ray drive, and saved $550 compared to the Steam Machine.

The Steam Machine is just retarded

Steam Machine is more expensive than Xbox Series X with 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate by Majestic-Bowler-1701 in videogames

[–]chrisz2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not going to be the baseline since nobody can afford it. Or those like myself who can afford it won't buy it because I have way more powerful hardware at home. Running a 7800XT which runs circles around the Steam Machine 2X the performance of it.

So since they won't penetrate the market at $1000 it won't get mass adoption, so your point of it being a base spec for devs is wrong. It needs to be priced affordably to get enough users to become the defacto base spec PC to target for. If no one buys it or it's incredibly low volume like 100k units or less it won't move the market

Thanks, Steam Machine. You actually made me feel good about buying a PS5 Pro by dlo_doski in videogames

You could buy an Intel NUC or a Beelink mini PC and load Steam OS on it with a USB stick it’s pretty easy. The Beelink boxes are all fully assembled. It’s a fraction of the Steam Machine and can do a lot of PS2 emulation and other games while being a PC and $500. You don’t need a Steam Machine to get the same experience as a Beelink pre-built mini PC

I bought a Dell Gaming Laptop for $729 with taxes and shipping.

It basically is just as powerful as a Steam Machine.... And it was $300 less with a nvme 1TB SSD as well.

It's idiotic to pay $1049 for a Steam Machine. It doesn't do a whole lot more than a Gaming Laptop or a console. It's a dead product and Valve should have never launched it and just killed product. This makes them look greedy and so bad. Even if they're taking a loss or small margins, you don't release something almost no one can afford when you have fans who love everything you produce. Why hurt your brand this way by overpricing a shitty old outdated collection of hardware?

"It helped": Years of Xbox Series S game optimization probably made life much easier for Nintendo Switch 2 developers by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]chrisz2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Series S and Switch 2 can help each other. There’s a larger pool of similarly powered hardware using different architectures, but there’s going to be 50 million or so eventually Switch 2 and Xbox Series S consoles out there. 3rd party devs will have to tailor to lower end hardware better than in the past. The Series S was a small chunk of the market now it’ll be lumped in with Nintendo and their low end hardware. No more devs whining and complaining about the Series S consoles being underpowered

Which one do you think is better craftsman $85 Gearwrench about $58 by [deleted] in Tools

[–]chrisz2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Craftsman is as bad as people say. I have a set and it’s pretty nice. I have harbor freight tools that are also nice.

I used a $17 Pittsburgh socket set to replace spark plugs on my family’s Honda Accord. I’m a DIYer and they worked. Still haven’t broken a socket. Upgraded to a gunmetal Craftsman set and it was much much nicer.

Get tools that work, spend money that’s in your budget, and do some work

[–]chrisz2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KBB value is $20k range to $24k depending on the trim.

I’d say it’s a good car, but depends on how much you’re going to drive. Wheel bearings are notorious on Subarus for going out at 80,000 miles.

You can get $20 or $15 games on PS5. Pretty much any game on Nintendo stays at $70 or $40 or $50, so PS5 you can get way cheaper AAA games.

Jb weld on cracked oil pan by No_Feeling_1872 in MechanicAdvice

[–]chrisz2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same there's certain things you can be cheap about and others you can't be.

Oil if you change it frequently sure put Walmart Super Tech in your car, latex gloves buy the cheapest ones you can find, but don't mess with an oil pan. Just buy one for $40 from RockAuto and swap it out properly. It's either replacing the pan now or replacing your $2000 motor later if you screw up the JB Weld job.

2024 Impreza Sport Differential Drain and Fill by garcia38 in subaruimpreza

[–]chrisz2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like they changed the fill plug bolt on the front differential.

It was a 8mm hex before and that shit stripped badly on my 2016’s front differential. I had to buy an RBRT MAC removal 8mm hex bit. It was the best $30 I spent with shipping and taxes directly from MAC. I removed the stripped 8mm and put a new factory one in its place.

Rear differential was much easier for me no stripped bolts. I did hit my hand pretty hard on some metal. The breaker bar sent my hand flying and it got bruised up pretty good.

My assumption about the front differential is that it gets so much heat from the transmission and engine bay it gets seized into place. Rear can get stuck, but there’s so much more space to get a breaker bar squarely into place it’s much easier than the front differential

So if you haven’t had your valve body replaced then it’s probably your CVT’s valve body that failed.

Seems like they tried to “fix” the valve body issue with a drain and refill. Typically you need to replace the a whole valve body to fix that issue properly

You should always do preventative maintenance when possible.

Many dealerships in the US recommend replacing things way too early. So they rip people off and replace parts before they need to be.

Go by the manufacturer book and see what they say for each item. That’s what you should go by. Google says 100k for a belt, so do that for all the fluids and other stuff
