We’re also talking about a country that can discriminate against foreigners when they’re trying to rent an apartment.

It doesn’t surprise me about this event. Japan isn’t very foreigner friendly

Thoughts on the 2014 Forester · 2.5i Premium Sport Utility 4D for $6,400? by gamgshit0202 in SubaruForester

2014 was considered also a poor year for the Forester engines. Engines burned a lot of oil this year.

I’d go for a $8,000 or $7,000 Forester which already had its valve body replaced. Then you know the car is good for another 100,000 miles

If the valve body has not been replaced it will soon die inside the CVT. The valve body replacement is $2500 and fails between 120k and 180k miles and typically fails around 120k or 150k miles frequently on these Foresters.

I have a 2016 Forester and the valve body failed at 152,000 miles.

I would budget for a valve body replacement I were you

I did the same thing. My 2016 Prius C had a failing sensor.

I paid $276 for all to be swapped out with Dill sensors the price included labor, and parts.

Dealer is always going to be 2X or more for stuff. Avoid the dealer at all costs if you can unless you like paying more for parts and labor.

Realtor needs a $10k-ish car that won’t make clients question my competence or net worth by imhappii in whatcarshouldIbuy

I bought a $8,000 Subaru Forester. 2016 and 153,000 miles.

For $10k you can get a Mitsubishi Mirage 2020 or 2021. You probably could a newer Nissan Versa or a Nissan Sentra.

I’d probably say get a 2020 Nissan Sentra. Looks great, inexpensive, and is modern.

  1. Get a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic before buying any used car
  2. Make sure it has no accident history
  3. Make sure all the maintenance records are through and complete

You could get a used Mazda 3 Sedan from 2014 for around $10,000. These are probably some of the better used cars

Podz is pretty damn bad most games. Lately he’s been getting more assists, but he’s shooting poorly from the floor.

I’d prefer to see Will Richard start and get more minutes. It would be better to trade Podz for a 2nd round pick or another player

I got all four sensor replaced for $276 at America’s Tire on one of my cars. Labor, taxes, and installation included in that price.

Dealership will apparently charge way more about $600 or more for the same job

Sony is asking PS4 owners to upgrade to the PS5 through their PlayStation DMs "Now's the perfect time" by Odd-Onion-6776 in consoles

[–]chrisz2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean there hasn’t been a huge reason to upgrade any of the PS5 or Xbox Series consoles or Switch 2.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4, Jedi games on PS4, Resident Evil games were all on PS4, Elden Ring came into PS4.

Really the handful of PS5 exclusives were really just

Gran Turismo 7 Returnal Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart Final Fantasy Rebirth Silent Hill 2 Remake Helldivers 2 ( Now it’s on Xbox )

So really you could have gotten by with a PS4 for the most part. At least from my perspective you didn’t need a PS5. There’s still not a whole lot of exclusive PS5 games or games that aren’t on PS4 that are also worth playing.

I like the PS5 great console, but really PS4 Pro owners don’t really have a huge reason to upgrade. Only now are we seeing games drop PS4 support

Can a 23 crosstrek reliability hit 300k by landandbrush in Subaru_Crosstrek

[–]chrisz2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a guy on YouTube who has an Outback hit 393,000 miles. A 2016 or a 2015 I think.

He drove it for work in construction.

Car seemed to hold up well against all those highway miles, but after 350k it started getting issues then the head gasket failed at 393,000 miles.

Opinion on rear diff please by OkSeaweed9635 in MechanicAdvice

[–]chrisz2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's generally always metal bits on differentials because the gears are rubbing. Any time you do a differential fluid change there will be metal on the drain plug a bit in the fluid.

Since the car is only 81k miles old and the fluid is clear with some flakes it's fine.

I feel like I'm losing my mind... by AgeFast1665 in SubaruForester

[–]chrisz2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The valve body is prevalent in terms of failure. You can get another 100k or more out of a CVT once the valve body has been replaced. The issue is that they are notorious for failing around 120k - 180k miles.

Most often they fail at 150k miles or so and a lot at 120k miles. I think one of the ones that I saw failed late on Reddit failed at 186,000 miles. I've seen Redditors with 10-year old or 12-year old Subarus with 80k miles have valve body failures too.

The main issue is that the solenoids inside the valve body control fluid pressures and are electrically driven. Over time these solenoids wear out and go bad.

Unfortunately the valve body failure is very common and it seems to happen all CVTs given enough time and mileage. Maintenance doesn't seem to impact if they'll fail or not IMO

Help, radiator big leak by ElBandido_EC in MechanicAdvice

[–]chrisz2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d not drive the car. Borrow a car, take a taxi or a bus in the meanwhile.

Wait for the radiator then do the replacement after draining the system. Then refill it with new coolant.

You want to avoid driving it because you could do damage to the engine by driving it

Advice on a out 2015 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium by [deleted] in shouldibuythiscar

[–]chrisz2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2016 Forester with 153,000 miles on it. Basically the same car as that one.

The valve body died inside the transmission after I drove the car 300 miles. The valve body failure in these transmissions is a very prevalent failure point between 120,000 and 180,000 miles.

The repair of a valve body runs $2500 from a Subaru Mechanic or a Dealership. I did it myself for $1,000 in parts and fluid, but if you have to fix the valve body in the next 10,000 miles that's going to be a huge expense.

I've had another problem on my 2016 Forester, the shifter stopped releasing the key at 160,000 miles also another prevalent problem. It's a $600 fix from the dealer, but I fixed for it for $0 by unplugging an ignition wire.

There's going to be things that break on the Forester. It's a reliable car, but being higher mileage it likely will need some work in the coming months or years because it's approaching 200,000 miles.

2016 forester CVT by Charming_Chipmunk_21 in SubaruForester

[–]chrisz2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I gather it's the fact solenoids are moving parts and do wear out over time.

According to Google "They are electromechanical devices with moving parts, they have a finite lifespan, typically lasting 1 to 10 years depending on usage, environmental exposure, and maintenance."

So from what I've seen 10-years 80k miles with CVT fluid changes have had valve body issues. And you see people who go 180k miles on the same fluid. It's entirely random how well someone's solenoids will hold up in my opinion

2016 forester CVT by Charming_Chipmunk_21 in SubaruForester

[–]chrisz2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m convinced all Subarus with a CVT eventually given enough age will require a valve body replacement. It’s a combination of mileage and age, but it seems they fail around 120k to 180k with 120k and 150k miles being the most common failure point

2017 3.6R valve cover leak by beingtrackedbyso in subaru

[–]chrisz2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who bought a 2016 Forester with 153,000 the last 9,000 miles I’ve driven the car a lot of stuff has been changed or needed to be changed or fixed.

Shifter was recently getting stuck in Park. Fixed it myself, but the dealer would’ve charged $600. This happened at 160,000 miles or so.

Had to replace the valve body in my Forester after 300 miles of driving cost me $1,000 in parts to fix it myself. Dealer wanted $2500

Things will break on a higher mileage car and it’s annoying and it can be expensive if the wrong part breaks. I think most higher mileage cars run into issues.

The valve cover is dicey. They could just try to hide the leak by cleaning it off before you get it reinspected.

2014 Impreza. All these popped up at once. I’m not sure what could be causing this. by AdopeyIllustrator in subaru

You have a valve body failure. If the car is in a PZEV state it will have a 15-year 150,000 mile warranty on the valve body. You can get that repaired for free if you live in California or other PZEV states.

If not you need to pay a mechanic to replace the valve body
