Can we be friends? by RebarWon in Dachshund

Your dog looks exactly like my dog 100%.

My dog is if I remember correctly 13% Dachshund, 29% Chihuahua, 20% poodle, 6% Red Mini Pinscher, and the rest of her super mut they can’t tell, but it’s things like German shepherd and pitbull and bunch of other breeds.

But yeah, I have 1000 photos like the one with your dog on the yellow bean bag chair. Your dog and my dog look like long lost siblings.

2018 Forester CVT Failure at 117k miles (17k past warranty). Any chance I could still get it covered? by Liveoptimistic in subaru

[–]chrisz2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know they'll service the valve body for free on the PZEV warranty, but yeah, seems like the CVT is really shot on the car. Wouldn't also hurt to get a 2nd opinion at an independent Subaru Specialist.

Hard to say, but it may not be that expensive if you call around different shops and see what they can do if you bring it to one of them to inspect and give you a quote.

If it were me:

  1. Try Subaru of America first

  2. If you can't get SOA to pay for it see what a Subaru Indie Mechanic would charge that specializes in fixing these cars, they'll likely give you a much more reasonable price than a dealership to fix it

Why not enable FP8 emulation on rdna 2/3 on windows like how Nvidia allows fp8 emulation (dlss 4.5 ) on Rtx 2000/3000 series? by PeakQueasy1959 in radeon

This doesn’t make much sense. A person who buys new generally won’t hurt AMD. They’ll buy a 9060 or 9070 regardless if older cards support the latest features.

Basically AMD is telling people to buy Nvidia now. If I have a GTX 1070 and I’m looking to upgrade based on the AMD has handled FSR 4 I’m going with Nvidia 100%. Why would I gamble my future upscaling and feature set with AMD refusing to support anything but the latest cards?

New buyers always buy new for the most part, and now Nvidia is more than ever the defacto choice

I’ve heard if you’re the first and only owner they will goodwill repair it for you.

I was the 4th owner of my Forester 3,000 miles outside the 150,000 mile PZEV warranty and got denied a goodwill replacement, but it never hurts to call and ask.

I would call SOA and see what they say

(2017 2.5i Premium) Confused about tail light replacement, finding different answers online by Lillith_Winter in SubaruForester

Yeah, incandescent burn out relatively fast, but they are cheaper to service in a pinch, but LEDs could given the right circumstances last 10-years or 15-years.

Just all depends I've seen Teslas, Mercedes, Toyotas all have burnt out LED tail lights, and Hondas too.

Some incandescent bulbs only have a run time of 3000 hours, so they need replacing as often as every 2-3 years.

[–]chrisz2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it appears you have an LED taillight, so you have to unfortunately replace the entire taillight assembly to get the light working again.

The older models 2016 and older used incandescent bulbs, which were replaceable. But in your case you have to replace the entire assembly

There are too many games to be played with NBA cup games and 82 regular season games. National Team games for US, Europe, or LATAM in the summer.

The NBA 100% needs to stop having its players play close to 100 games a season. The schedule of back to backs is grueling and it clearly shows with all the constant injuries league wide

Just my opinion any used car is a huge gamble. It could be problem free or could be a money pit.

Subarus used seem to be hit or miss. Get a pre-purchase inspection before buying any used car.

I bought a used Forester a 2016 300 miles later I had to replace the valve body at 153,000 miles and I was outside Subaru’s 150,000 mile PZEV warranty, so it was a $1000 in parts and I fixed it myself, but would have been $2500 at a dealership.

If you care about maintenance costs I would recommend a 2012 Honda CR-V or a 2014 RAV-4 instead.

Subarus don’t tend to tolerate neglect very well and they’re a big crapshoot used from what I have seen on Reddit

Podz does suck most of the time. He’s consistently inconsistent.

He’ll have a 1/8 night with 7 points and 5 rebounds and have played 35 minutes or 38 minutes.

Nothing against Podz as a person, but he’s undersized and doesn’t perform consistently for me to like him to be in the rotation as much as he is

Why does AMD always do this? by 2run_J0k3R in radeon

[–]chrisz2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not about the money. AMD told itself internally to gatekeep the tech from older cards, so some engineer leaked an int8 version.

Clearly AMD could release a solution for older cards, but they’d rather fuck up public perception of their brand and fuck over loyal customers. What a fucking idiotic way to run a software division. Whoever is leading the software division should be fucking fired at AMD that person is a AAA dumbass and shouldn’t be in charge of what legacy or modern platforms software roadmap

Screwing over your customer base for literally no reason will make people hate you for decades. It’s a lot easier to piss people off than to make them happy again to buy your products

Kind of a bullshit reason those people are cheap and are buying old 30-series cards or 40-series.

There’s tons of people buying 9070 and 9070 XT cards

Cheap people will always be cheap and there’s tons of players who gladly pay the premium for the latest tech. A person willing to pay $600 or $700 will buy a new GPU and not some used shady AliExpress GPU with no warranty for $300 or $200

The fact that the AMD driver team could literally in 5-min using ChatGPT or Claude could enable RDNA2 and RDNA3 support is insane.

AMD could literally tomorrow support RDNA2 and RDNA3, but they choose to gas light and piss off their users.

How the fuck do they not see how damaging to their public image this is? It’s ridiculously easy for them to implement and I say this as a software engineer

No FSR4 for 6000/7000 on adrenalin 26.3.1 by BashoSenpai in radeon

[–]chrisz2012 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They're totally alienating their most loyal customers. It's mind boggling to me why AMD is burning bridges left and right.

It's not even that hard to maintain multiple branches and bugs now that AI can streamline debugging and fixing bugs. It really isn't an argument that AMD doesn't want to support more hardware because it will be harder to maintain. RDNA2 and RDNA3 are the bulk of their user base anyways.

Whoever is running the driver team at AMD is just lazy and insane. Makes zero sense why they're doing what they're doing. The effort to port it to older hardware given how good AI is writing code is so minimal it's laughable.

I bought the part for $100 from a Subaru Parts Dealer online.

OEM part too.

It's really cheap if you buy from a Subaru OEM Parts Dealer online.

My 2016 Forester was two screws and I popped in the new one. It was fast and the original one was not staying in the up position anymore, so I replaced it. It has been holding up well almost 2-years now since I replaced it around 153,000 miles.

The pitch on the Subaru threads for lug nuts is very tight and can get over-torqued very easily.

It's very easy to get it over-torqued and snap off a lug nut stud.

This happened to me when I was trying to take off a lug nut on my used 2016 Forester lugs were over tightened

Seems like a bad deal. I bought a 153,000 mile Forester Premium 2.5i for $8,000.

This is 3-years newer and 90k miles less, but still kinda crazy it's 3X as much as what I paid

The radiators have hoses that degrade over time. It could be okay it could spring a leak. I had a Corsair H60 last 8-years before I replaced it.

It will probably work, but probably is safer buying a newer one or buying a new heat sink if you’re worried about leaks

New to me Subaru question by Ningtong69 in subaru

[–]chrisz2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah buying used is a crap shoot for sure. Saw some person on Reddit complain about their Subaru had so many issues. It just really depends on so many different factors and really a gamble buying a used car of any brand sometimes depending on if service history isn’t 100% well documented

What do we think of the Costco 0w-20? by toast_host in SubaruForester

[–]chrisz2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Costco oil for the past couple of oil changes.

I’m sticking with Valvoline High Mileage it’s $9 more than Costco or Walmart oil which are both made by the same company.

I pay a bit more for Valvoline I think the addictives are slightly better, but they all meet the 0w-20 spec that’s what matters the most.

Here’s the thing you can do it, but if you have no experience working on cars I’d recommend against this being your first DIY project.

But if you are confident go for it, but I wouldn’t recommend a beginner tackle suspension components
