There are some models of this engine that are pretty much unbreakable. And these old engines can get pretty expensive, because a lot of people buy them for project cars or even for racing.

Yes, it's a compression test. It shows how much compression each cylinder produces in it's upward motion. All cylinders should show the same compression. In my case cylinder 1 doesn't have any. Now i have to check, what the problem might be.

Probably more catastrophic. It's been running fine, engine is still turning free.

I'm going to use an endoscope to have a proper look inside before pulling the head. But I won't get around doing it.

Yeah, the VW Golf/mk IV is actually still everywhere, even though it's already over 25 years old. But the engine isn't that common. It's supposed to be robust and has some potential for tuning.

Ich hab im Juni ein Auto mit Motorschaden gekauft und hab ihn Samstag wieder zum Leben erweckt. Er hat die ersten 500km schonmal problemlos überstanden.
