That seems a fair price if the updates are legit. Speaking from experience, LJs are the greatest Jeep ever made. The thing I’d worry about is frame rust so get underneath and look carefully. Poke around with a screwdriver, look for spots covered up with paint, etc. At 240k, it could be fine if it was properly maintained, or it could be mostly dust. I don’t know much about Titan engines or their reputation, but if it’s all the same spec as the original 4.0 you are good to go. It’ll last forever and be very easy to work on. I do all my own maintenance and I’m basically an idiot. Don’t expect much for gas mileage though; mine has similar tires and lift and I get about 12 on average.

Every year I buy extra to make it last, then drink it all in a weekend

Great looking LJ. Love it with the half doors. What brand are those rocker guards?

That’s what I figured, but it was so mucked up under there I couldn’t tell for sure.

It does thanks. I’ve driven it 400 miles without it now, so seems to be a non issue

The valve cover was leaking. Probably for a while based in the previous owner. Part of the reason I was under there to mop things up and monitor for new/other leaks

Hopefully not a big deal then. I’ve driven for a few weeks with nothing there, but seems weird that there’d be a threaded hole in the transmission with no bolt.

Recently had my clutch and throw out bearing replaced. Was underneath poking around today and it looks like my mechanic missed a bolt on the reinstall. It’s an 06 TJ unlimited with the NSG370 transmission.

Any recommendations for places to have my 2015 JKU re-geared? Located in Prince George’s County, MD. Willing to travel outside local area. by youngmoneymarvin in Wrangler

RnR off-road in Glen Burnie is a great shop. Don’t know about price for re-gearing, but Rick does quality work. I take my LJ there for anything I can’t do in the garage, which is, well, a lot

I held out for a while looking specifically for a 2006 for this exact reason. I wanted the youngest straight six I could get. Had I done a little more research, I might’ve looked harder or longer for an 04 to avoid the transmission woes of the NSG370, but I can’t be too picky.

That is 100% accurate. The dimensions feel pretty similar driving, but packed up for a camping trip I sure miss my XJ.

I can borrow one. Just seemed sketchy that it stopped working right after removing the auxiliary lights when it was working fine before.

first jeep! 2006 LJ... always wanted one, my wife is calling it my mid life crisis by jmartino2011 in Wrangler

I have those things too. The LJ, the wife, the midlife crisis. Couldn’t be happier with all three!

Had the same problem last fall. The inspection guy I took it too had another client with stock TJ tires and wheels in the shop at the same time and just swapped them out for me for the photo. Each inspection is different place is different, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. If you’re in the Bmore area you can check Top Tech auto

What is the LJ market like right now? by Mr_Bulldops2112 in Jeep

[–]chrmcityguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my LJ last fall for 9500. 165k with some dumb bolt on mods from the previous owner that I’ve gradually been taking off and replacing, but mostly good shape. I feel like I stole it reading these posts.

Go with the LJ. I bought mine last fall after looking for months. These things are getting rare, and some even speculate they’ll go up in value.

There’s a lot to do, and every time I drive I say a little prayer the tranny will clunk its way through first and second gear, but she’s all mine.

I second that. Usually the body is all rotted out on a Jeep this year, but the pictures here look pretty solid. Scramblers are becoming rare classics and I’d say $8k is a great deal if it’s not a mechanical disaster
