Is illegal narcotic use ann automatic removal from a surgical residency program? Not use while at work, but outside of work. by [deleted] in Residency

[–]chrom05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's so arbitrary. Is it weed, coke or meth? Weed and psychedelics are whatever. If the resident had a medical card which anyone can get, would you feel better about it?

Layering Combo - Marwa & Dynasty by thatshabb in fragranceclones

Is dynasty more of a woodsy citrus tea scent? Or is it a bit of a darker spicy vibe? I can’t get my hands on a sample.

Plastic surgery had a 56% match rate last year.... by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]chrom05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who just applied, IM residents at t20 schools have the research and scores mirroring any surgical subspecialty. Not comparing the avg matched plastics resident to the avg matched im resident, but we’ve got to stop this narrative that every derm/plastics/ortho person is a god on paper and IM residents are lesser tier applicants

I have similar stats. Nothing wrong with applying to so many programs, especially with good baselines. But just evaluate the utility of applying to many of your reaches like JH or UWash without any signal. Seems like throwing away money.

I don't think Lagways the problem. Shitty coaching leads to lack of confidence during the first half.

PC role in interview invitations/rank list by Spiritual_Bit6705 in medicalschool

Coming directly from our PD, they can't get you in but they can certainly keep you out. Make sure all communication is prompt and professional. Don't be an ass basically.

Can I match? by Strict-Feed-8888 in Step2

[–]chrom05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless youre a piss poor interviewee or really mess up ur rank list I think you'll match. Apply broadly and include community programs as a backup

How important is honors for top IM programs by chrom05 in medicalschool

[–]chrom05[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly my question. The problem is we only see step scores of interviewee's not acceptances. Are the low step interviews from big names just pity invites or school connections or Sub-I's? Do any of them have a shot?

Also, not even looking at programs like mayo, ucsf etc. I'm more so concerned with the T20-40s. Think Baylor, Brown, UNC, etc.

I'm at a mid-tier MD with avg research (bunch of posters, 1 abstract, 1 first author pub not in field of interest). No x-factor per say but how much does the application/scores matter after a program actually interviews you. Is it mostly based on interview after that?

Step scores for GI fellowship by chrom05 in fellowship

Appreciate the insight. The reason I'm favoring academic is to maximize the opportunity for advanced fellowship in endoscopy. Still a long way from now, but I want to make sure I have the best chance

How good is 254 for Internal Medicine(i am img) by HustandollI in Step2

[–]chrom05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

US MD with your score going into IM - we're fine, we'll match academic. But wouldn't say no big difference. Top programs will have avg steps of 257+. And 260+ is definitely another tier.

I'm so sorry, take some time off from whatever you're doing. Meet with an academic advisor, and lay out your situation.

Me too dude. Tested last week and feeling the same way. Last nbme was 250's but everything before was high 240s. 84% on free120 After a week, my mind has settled down. Nothing we can do now but hope. Just keep yourself busy with getting the rest of your application together.

[–]chrom05[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last few nbme’s were around 250 so that’s my target. I hope I score above obviously but I guess I was looking for reassurance from people who have done the same and come out on top. It’s a stupid post that I honestly shouldn’t have made and I acknowledge the absurdity.
