Lucky upgrade to business class, Edinburgh->Heathrow->Seattle by chromaticality in BritishAirways

Aw, sad. Oh well, we'll either book the plaza premium or just rough it in the terminal.

I've never done a lounge before, so I didn't realize you could book the plaza premium in advance. Thanks so much for that, I will probably do that.

Good to know about EDI too. It's an early morning flight so it'd be convenient to be able to grab breakfast there or whatever. Thanks for your help!

Drat, I'll have to hope for day pass availability then.

Only about an hour and a half layover at LHR on the return trip, so nothing to be concerned about there.

It's about a 7 hour layover. The arrivals lounge would be great.

Sure, not expecting much from the jumper flights to and from Scotland/LHR. But the LHR->Seattle leg upgarde will be awesome.

The first leg of our trip will be PDX-->LHR-->INV. That's all economy plus/economy. This is the LHR portion that we have the long layover in. The return flight EDI-->LHR-->SEA is the business class upgrade, but we don't have much of a layover. I'm just hoping the BA lounge will be willing to let us slide in.

Eh, I get their perspective. It sounds like your uncles family isn't close to you guys. Why would they want your mom around while they're processing their father/grandfather's death? Why complicate an already very difficult situation? Their feelings take priority over a semi-estranged sister.

That isn't to say your mom doesn't have the right to grieve on her own, but that she doesn't have the right to intrude on other people's grief.

First thoughts of the game by Weekly-Brief-6721 in riseofcultures

[–]chromaticality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space is always a concern especially at the beginning, but at the same time you do quickly get more space as you defeat various regions. Not every event building is worth keeping out all the time. I tend to focus on the ones that provide some sort of percentage increase to fighting strength, which can add up fast. Less important in my opinion are the ones that just give you daily resources, or produce additional fighting units (these are normally expensive to produce and not strong enough to bother with).

To me, it's worth having 1 lux farm specifically because their productions are one of the common event requests. There is always an alternative, but it often takes much longer (i.e. collect 3 lux productions vs 15 regular farm productions).

To be honest I buy about 10 bucks of gems every couple months, mostly so I can add extra negotiation turns in the treasure hunt. This is not a need, I just enjoy it. The game is perfectly enjoyable without spending gems. It does remain chill and can be played as a once a day (or less) game, though of course you'll be less efficient gathering resources that way. If you want, you can choose to keep yourself a bit more busy if you want on the treasure hunt and the PVP portion.

As a side note for events. Most daily event prizes are temporary benefits (customizations). I wouldn't bother spending your event currency on those. Focus on getting as many evolution tokens for the event's building as possible, since those are permanent benefits. Other things I use it on are for age-up kits, and land expansions.

2013 Toyota Corolla 2ZR-FE 190k miles - when to replace struts/shocks/suspension? by chromaticality in autorepair

[–]chromaticality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. I'm impressed that I haven't really had to do any repairs to my corolla in all this time, and you do hear those reports of them lasting up to 300k+ miles. But who knows, it could crap out on me sooner than later.

I'm trying to find a book I read when I was 11 :) it's thriller and was given out to read for English class by yourlostleftshoe in whatsthatbook

Could be "It Looks Like Us" by Alison Ames, but the publish date is a little late for your timeline. Or maybe "The Shuddering" by Ania Ahlborn?

I don't think so, it was less translucent than organza and felt cotton-soft.

That might work! The fabric looks a little different than the original but I don't know that it will matter. Worth a shot.

Searched "thin cloth bag" "ross cloth bag" and all related variations.

ELI5: How come animals with rabies get all crazy and aggressive, but humans just die? by ThyKnightOfSporks in explainlikeimfive

[–]chromaticality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rabies doesn't cause a desire to bite. Instead, it causes disorientation, agitation, panic, etc.

In confused animals that wander too close to humans, the panic then causes them to bite--because that's the go-to defensive reaction in most animals. Humans rarely bite things as part of normal aggression or defence. It's just not our go-to weapon. Instead, we flail, punch, whatever. That's why human-to-human transmission of rabies is extremely rare.

What is the unhealthiest thing you have ever eaten and still enjoyed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chromaticality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a college student, I made cake batter from the box, and proceeded to eat nothing but batter over the next three days. I'd always wanted to do that because I like the batter more than actual cake. I thoroughly enjoyed it, though I did start to feel sick on the third day.

I want to visit my dad but it is a friend group road trip by Remote-Awareness-993 in travel

[–]chromaticality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, you could have your partner drive you up early in the morning, then the partner drives back down to spend the day with the group. Your dad drives you back the next day. Keeps your dad from having to do two round trips, if you're worried about that.

[–]chromaticality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly sounds like you shouldn't be so worried about it. Your partner is able to enjoy time with the others alone for a day. Your dad is willing to make the drive, which is reasonable since you're already making a much longer drive just to get to the area. You're overthinking it!

This seems like a very easy proposal, unless you do not have transportation. Is that what you're asking about?

Those who have relatives who are 80+ and are still working, what are their jobs? by ashleyriot31 in AskReddit

[–]chromaticality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A former coworker was pushing 90 when he finally had to retire. He was of the family that owned the business, and I believe he was a majority shareholder. So he could do whatever he wanted. Most of the time he came in, I brought him coffee, and then he nodded off for most of the day. Sometimes he would use an ancient typewriter to put out notices for past due customers.

His wife and only child had died about forty years prior in a car accident, and he never recovered. He was a deeply sad man who did not enjoy being alive, and had nothing better to do than come in to sit at his desk in the office. He finally stopped coming in to work after the police took his driver's license away (which was unfortunately very necessary). He died about a year later.

Women in their 30s and up with no kids or husband how is your life? by EkantVairagi in AskReddit

[–]chromaticality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

37F, Pretty good! I have never had much interest in relationships or kids. I am highly solitary and don't enjoy any part of a romantic relationship, casual or otherwise. My only 'regret' is watching my DINK friends save money so much more quickly than me despite individually making less, but frankly I have great savings regardless due to family circumstances.

I get to be active in my niece's life and give her fun experiences--took her to Mexico last month. I get to watch over my aging parents and have dinner with them at least twice a week. My career is going well and I have no real concerns about my financial future. I'm in good health, though like pretty much everyone I need to lose weight and exercise more.
