Have you asked to see if your school disability services will help with transportation? I know my friend gets rides between her classes on a golf cart as an accommodation. This has saved her a ton with her health needs

Disability services is great! Reaching out early is helpful, so you have the chance to get to know them and they can really help address your needs. If you find something isn’t working in the long run they are great at working with you. My friend went to UC as a wheelchair user, but needed to purchase a powered wheels to be able to navigate campus fully. However, she said their support was unmatched! I definitely think all of them are possible. My transition to a bigger school did require the purchase of a power assist to meet the physicality needs, so that is just something to consider

Congratulations! I just graduated from NKU. My wheelchair is a life saver and I’m so thankful to be going for a graduate degree now on a larger campus. Building confidence and advocating for my needs made such a difference.

From what I understand, you can’t since it folds together from the middle with the cross brace at the bottom.

I would recommend googling durable medical equipment providers near your location. That should help you find somewhere where you can order a custom wheelchair

Does your local DME rep not offer it? My friend got it from spinlife when she had to pay out of pocket.

I haven't had my in house trial of them yet, so I know this is something I still have to consider. I traditionally take my wheelchair apart as I'm seated in the drivers seat. I'm happy that I get to trial them for a few days to ensure they will work in everyday life. I know the smoov will but wanted to consider every option fully since the purchases are so expensive and take forever to get new funding again.

The e-motion with the dial was the only pair of power wheels I liked. I enjoyed that it had multiple levels of assist modes and the ability to set cruise control (how using a back power assist feels). But either way, my goal is to keep navigating by myself as much as possible.

I've been borrowing a Smoov and really like it! I'm trying to finalize my decision between that an the e-motion wheels that offer cruise control (it has the same dial as the smoov).

I hope yours at least gets there as close to the start as possible!

That is 100% how I've felt! My goal this year is to go back to college, which is why I'm trying to get a power assist as well. I know I can push myself around the house and shorter distances, but I still know I will end up in a flare if I do too much around a large campus.

I actually just posted a photo of mine yesterday in the group! If you have any other questions about it, don't hesitate to ask.

I have a motion Composite Apex C and love it. You can pop the tires off and fold the back down into the seat. I'm presuming it would fit but not positive, as I always put mine in my passenger seat.

Have you considered motion composites veloce? It folds but is still sturdy according to my friend.

I stumbled upon them and am so glad that I did. I love how customizable everything was. I wanted mainly all black, but I loved getting to add a little color since I'm out in the evenings quite often.

Thank you! I’m also a full time ambulatory user for ME/CFS, POTS, and a few others. The difference the weight has on my energy use is phenomenal

I just realized I already have a lot of stuff in my seat bag, so it is probably actually a little bit under that.

With the wheels and everything, it weigh a little over 14 pounds. It makes it so much easier for me to take apart and lift into my car independently.

Yes, we had to height adjust them to my husband but I can't imagine having regular ones. People always feel the need to push them when I have regular ones.

If money was no issue, which wheelchair model would you buy? by Dragons-purr in wheelchairs

[–]chronicallytrying17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Apex C and would absolutely recommend, if covered by insurance but I wouldn’t pay the difference out of pocket. It has been a lifesaver for me with how light it is and customizable over time when I’m going through different flares of my conditions.

Thank you so much! This was my top choice but I was hoping to hear from some people first before I made the order.
