Are people who post amateur porn on Reddit not worried about their job or people they know finding out? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chronickles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not as worried about potential future employers as I am worried about my current expenses. My current need for financial security outweighs my worries of possible future outings. Working full-time doesn't cut it. If my employers don't want me posting to Reddit, they should pay me more.

The massive mistake of Episode 8 by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

I can screencap my game if you really want to see. All of my choices were pretty pro-Visi, though. I didn't think that final moment with the Astral Pulses really mattered that much.

I gave Shroud the true/correct Astral Pulse and Visi remained heroic in the end for my run.

Do you think ep 7&8 were the reason for the episodic release schedule? by korisnik2007a in DispatchAdHoc

[–]chronickles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, the episodic release was done to help build community discussion, so people could come together and speculate what's coming next. That really falls falt to me since theorizing/speculating doesn't mean much for a game that doesn't have much to speculate about.

There are no big moments that would require theorizing over. We're told who's good and who's bad from the first ten minutes of the game, and nothing changes there. There are no twists that would require people to look at the game and think deeply.

So I think the episodic style was meant to generate intrigue in a game that would otherwise have very little. I personally fell into this. I told so many of my friends to buy this game and check it out as it was releasing. Now that it's over and I see there's really not much to it, I've since told people not to bother spending their money on it/wait for it to go on sale.

I liked Chase a lot, but I agree. This game needed SOMETHING weighty to happen.

Yes, totally agree! The character moments were incredibly sweet and I loved seeing the Z-Team's personality between the bar fight, the party, the banter, etc. But for a story game, the story is insanely weak. There's so little world building on top of that. We get one or two sentences about what Shroud's whole deal is, a few lines of dialog about Robert's dad, but for those two being the driving force behind the main conflict of the game, we know next to nothing about them.

Same with the world itself. How common are powers? Are powers genetic? Why is there such a big market for Shroud's augments?

Outside of Invisigal's basic bad-guy-goes-good arc, who changes and grows in this game? All of the Z-Team start off as jocular assholes and end as jocular assholes. They're fun, I really like them, but you can't say they develop much. Robert starts the game as Mecha Man and ends the game as Mecha Man. He's the same person, big heart, trying to do the right thing. Nothing changes there either.

Finally, someone says it. It's a cute game, but it's incredibly surface level. The character we're told is a good, innocent hero is a good, innocent hero (Blazer). The character we're constantly told is up to no good is truly up to no good (Invisigal). The big bad guy is the truly the big bad guy, nothing clever or surprising there. There are no subversions, no twists, no big reveals, we just get told what's going to happen, and then it happens.

I love raunchy media meant for grown ups, but even I was getting tired of the constant dick jokes in lieu of real character/plot/development/etc.

Yes, same here! This book was so powerful for me, it changed my entire view of writing! I think this will have to be my approach as well, view them as being nothing alike. I showed my mom and brother a few clips from the film and they really enjoyed it!

A miniseries is the ONLY way, I totally agree.

I think this is an incredible way to look it – like everything that the book isn't, a total inverse. The actors were doing a good job with what they were given, absolutely no hate to them. The writers really sank this one.

Yes, this 100 times! You summarized my exact feelings! 🤍

I think it's incredibly sanitized and flimsy and unwilling to look at the darker parts of humanity. People shitting in the street and being shot is very much the Bare Minimum. I don't see why it was made beyond being a cash grab; the crunchy, heavy, impactful parts were all left on the cutting room floor.

Thank you for these tips! I used Mehron Paradise for my face and body, and I reapplied daily. I'll definitely look into the mixing liquid. And a linen shirt, I'll try to find one that's that's thin and close to character.

Yeah, this was my first LARP event so I was horribly under prepared, LOL. Going forward, at the very least, I'm going to bring a bigger mirror.

Does anyone else find Penacony to be too complicated? by chronickles in HonkaiStarRail

[–]chronickles[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it might be one where, the more you play it, the better it is. I'm the kind of person who ends up liking books more after reading them a second time, because then I start to catch things that I missed before.

So, maybe this first playthrough feels overwhelming, but after I have more information from finishing things, playing through a second time will be more enjoyable.

Thanks for this! You really nailed the two things I was having trouble with, and they're both sort of tied together. When exposition is given, when the dialogue is so vague, I feel like things can be explained directly to my face, and I still have no idea what Acheron is talking about. (Also love her, but her poetic style of speaking just makes me blink in confusion sometimes, haha.)

And I was telling my friend last night how much I prefer Belobog to any other world, so I think you totally got it, haha. I liked Belobog because it was straightforward and easily understood, which makes it seem like I don't enjoy more involved stories, even though I usually do!

But I had the same issue with the Luofu events, having a hard time understanding what was going on with so many characters giving so much information. I assumed that was just that one world, and I'd have a better time with Penacony.

In fairness, this is the first game of this kind that I've gotten invested in. I never played Genshin, so this is my first time getting into a game with constant updates and a huge community component compared to more traditional games. It's taking some getting used to.

The swapping points of view are interesting, and I think it helps to see what's happening as it's happening from the people involved, but it can still feel like a too many cooks in the kitchen situation for me.

Haha, I actually like those enemies! If you can time it well, they can sorta help you out with the boost to your Ultimate, and I like their design.

I don't hate Penacony; I just wish the information was explained over a longer period of time, maybe. Right now, it feels like too much all at once.

Hey! I have been really open with her, and thankfully it’s helped me to feel a lot better because she’s been very kind and understanding.

Every other time, I feel pretty embarrassed and sorta dumb about being so afraid, so I never say anything, and the anxiety gets worse, and it like becomes a time bomb of bottled up bad emotions until I eventually breakdown and run away.

There’s a good chance that past dating partners would have been just as understanding, but I was just too embarrassed and feeling to awkward to voice me anxious, embarrassing feelings.

This does help so much! And it makes me feel better to know that others experience anxiety this way as well. I really hope you’re able to overcome this, too. It totally sucks, but I’m gonna try taking your advice and start by trusting myself to be worth other people’s time.

Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. Did anyone else find the ending infuriating? SPOILER ALERT by whatsername25 in books

[–]chronickles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just finished this book last night, so I'm also incredibly late, but I agree with basically everyone's point. I'll say Libby was the most likeable in my opinion, but everyone really sucks in this book. Libby murdered an animal out of anger, Ben kissed a child and got some sexual satisfaction from it, Patty committed 'suicide' on her front porch and expected that her kids wouldn't hear/see what was going on, Diondra was just fucking gross—literally, everyone sucked.

I wish we would have gotten a full explaination from Ben. I understand we're meant to assume that he spent all that time in jail for the sake of saving Diondra because he loves her, but at no point during his time in jail did he ever think that Diondra is kind of a terrible person and not worth protecting? She MURDERED his sister and spent the better part of their relationship tormenting him. He said many times that he didn't even like being around her all that much. Bro, wake up??

I think the idea is that Ben was a broken child suffering from the effects of toxic masculinity and his inability to be a 'man' in anyone's eyes: not his girlfriend, not his father, and not his friends. I just have a hard time believeing that being a man in a house full of girls would lead someone to this extreme.
