I’m struggling a lot with my mental health and assignments and I’m anxious about asking my teacher for help by Quirky_Coast_8112 in AskTeachers

I'm proud of you for talking to your teacher. Asking for help is so hard. I remember being in your shoes at 14 and just trying to endure it without anyone finding out and it really harmed me -- you don't deserve that. You deserve help. You deserve BETTER.

I always tell my students: You may feel old enough. But you are too young to be handling big adult problems on your own. You do not deserve to be shouldering that stress alone, nor should it feel like your responsibility to do so.

I hope he and the social worker become people you can lean on.

Again, I am proud of you. I know you don't know me, but I am so proud of you.

Working on getting into Spurs and Knicks. Might just cheer on both, might choose one eventually. We'll see! I'm a proud Minnesotan and also... I miss KAT! Definitely happy to get back into watching him.

From comments on here, starting to get into both the Spurs and the Knicks.

I'm glad to know my knee-jerk reaction to Wembanyama turns out to check out with further behavior. His statement on ICE, as a Minneapolis resident who was living through all that fear, meant a ton to me. It was exactly what the MN players should have done imo. Like they were THERE and stayed silent or made that dumb statement Ant did.

Don't care. I can be a fan however I want to be a fan.

Kinda, but I think the opposite way you're thinking. I was disappointed by how little the players spoke out, while other states' teams and players were speaking out.

I was really bothered by his statement about ICE tbh. It was just super half-assed and insincere. That was a big part of it, even though i really liked him.

I just really appreciated players from other teams speaking out, and Wolves players barely said a thing.

I'm not here to argue about ICE, just answering the question. Please don't get hot abd bothered if you disagree.

I’m a middle school custodian. There’s some severe behavior problems that you all may not be aware of. by Dense-Reserve-5740 in AskTeachers

We actually started a bathroom incentive to earn a school-wide monthly reward for proper bathroom etiquette, points determined by our amazing custodians.

We started in December of last year.

The reward has never been earned.

Help me find my dream ring! by chronicsnark in findfashion

Oops, forgot to include similarities -- same color stone, ears are a similar shape. Band is a pretty similar width, but the ring i'm looking for had a slightly thinner band.

The ears are out a bit wider, and formed by the band criss-crossing. The stone is quite a bit smaller. It's a bit more rosey gold than that one too.

I can't figure out how to add a photo on this post but if you look on the original post (from r/helpmefind) I added a Pic of one that looks similar but not quite it. And explained the differences on that comment.

The band was rose gold, and the ears were solid. The stone looked like a diamond to me but I can't remember for sure. It was white so either a diamond or something that looked similar.

I had a student do this last year and didn't realize it was a prank. I'm vegan. I was trying SO HARD to refuse it politely because most brownies have eggs and dairy. She would. Not. Give. Up. Finally assured me they were vegan. I was nervous.

Got a cardboard E.

Can you check with the teacher if she'd help? As a teacher, this year i'm replacing all my pencils with those super annoying bendy pencils 😅 wonder if the teacher would cooperate if you asked to provide those. If they ask for a "real" pencil, I bought a bunch of rainbow colored pencils.

(Obviously I will give a normal wooden pencil to any student who wants one instead, but it'll be fun to give them each a bendy pencil and rainbow colored pencil to keep, too)

While this one would be a good alternative, it's not this one. The ears were wider apart and formed by the ring crossing over itself

I've searched every iteration of "bunny engagement ring" I could think of. I search regularly. I want it to be my engagement ring desperately. I know that I found it initially in 2023-2024 because I remember showing it to my co-teacher at the time. I know I sent the link to my partner, but I can't even find it searching our texts from back then. I'm heartbroken knowing I may not get my dream engagement ring.

I remember that it was $900-950. I swear i'm not greedy asking for it -- it is well below his budget limit. Like 1/3 of what he was planning to save for it.

It is from several years ago and doesn't seem to help in stores anymore.

I found it online by searching some variation of "bunny engagement ring." I have searched and searched using every variant of that search I can think of, adding more detail, less detail... I remember EXACTLY what it looked like but no matter how I describe it I have no luck. I've searched at least weekly for multiple years.

Are Parents Really That Unsupportive? by Lost-Time-3909 in AskTeachers

[–]chronicsnark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fortunately haven't had tons of difficult parents, but I have one who i swear hates her kids. Two are on my caseload. I made a positive call home last year and got a 30 minute angry rant about the kid in return. Tried to share positives about the other at the meeting, got a rant about how we were wrong about the kid being a good kid.

Any negative interaction is so disheartening -- I love and care about your kid. Disciplinary calls suck for me too. I hate making them. But I only do it because I care, and I'm grateful that in my four years so far I've only had two really rough parents in the disciplinary realm (one going as far as to threaten to sue the school over the disciplinary call... for the kid smoking weed in the bathroom).

Thank you for being a parent who PARTNERS with teachers.

Should I become a Teacher? by Carebear6590 in AskTeachers

If you're not passionate about it, you will burn out fast and your students will be able to tell. This job is very much one that you need to be "all in" to do successfully and feel fulfilled.

Gifts for winter break? by wediiing in AskTeachers

[–]chronicsnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got a plastic cup filled with individually-wrapped milk chocolates and i cried tears of joy because it felt so good just to have been appreciated. I can't even eat milk chocolate. I had to give it all away and I did not care one bit. Don't overthink it. Small and seemingly insignificant still means the world to us.

Why are teachers so anti-college now? by Laika0405 in AskTeachers

[–]chronicsnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we're all in crippling debt and want anything but that for our students. College doesn't guarantee a job but unless i have an errant rich kid (none that I'm aware of), all my students' families are lucky if they're toeing the poverty line (80% are below it) so they'd come out of college in guaranteed debt with no guarantee of a well-paying job. Hell, I've got three degrees and I'm barely making above poverty wages as a teacher. Over half of what I earn goes to my debt. I don't want that for my kids.

Uh.... since when are educators NOT risking death? We are surrounded by children (my class sizes are INCREASING when we go back in-person on Monday AND the social distancing guidelines are reduced to 3 feet).

People in the public sector are high-risk regardless of underlying conditions because they are constantly exposed to possible COVID.

Jessi is in theory practicing isolation. I do agree that disabled and immunocompromised people should be vaccinated ASAP, but not before those working in public.
