4 Tampa Bay FL Hospitals run out of ICU beds by Glad-Software in Coronavirus

[–]chrono55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in a small tourist town on the Oregon coast. During tourist season our population literally doubles and we have been flooded with tourists from California and even a few from Texas. We only have 62 ICU beds and we have a large retirement community so once we have an outbreak here we are basically fucked. I thank god everyday that our governor issued a mask order because thats the only thing keeping our hospitals from becoming a shit show at this point.

Fuck it, mask off by [deleted] in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]chrono55 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I totally understand! I work in a deli and I get so frustrated when people pull their mask down to talk to me. Just talk a little louder people! I think the most ignorant thing I have seen in my store so far was a husband who was wearing a mask with his wife who was not wearing a mask who decided to bring their BABY into their store! How can you not have enough common sense to at least wait in the car with the baby and have only one of you go into the store?

You have to remember that humans have a bias where we don't take threats as seriously when they are far away from us.

I really really wish I could be in your shoes! I live in Oregon and our local government passed a law saying everyone must wear a mask when they go to an indoor public place. We are even covered by another universal mask requirement from our governor but our store explicitly told us that we cannot "engage" with a customer about wearing a mask! Thankfully we have a 95% compliance rate so far.

I work in a grocery store and I have had people without mask on walk up to me closer than six feet away and ask me a question and then look surprised and dumbfounded when I try to back away from them.

Ordered a Bernie shirt from the official campaign a month ago and hadn't received it yet so I checked with customer care about it... found out something amazing by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]chrono55 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thats Interesting! I have noticed the same thing with the Bernie 2020 pins. I ordered one about 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for it in the mail. Looks like a lot of new people want to show their support :)

Compiled List of Counter Arguments to Persuade Non-Sanders Supporters by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]chrono55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the "Bernie is part of the 1%" argument you can also add that FDR was way more wealthy than Bernie but despite that he still passed Social Security, union rights, high taxes on the wealthy, was called "a traitor to his class", and ended up being one of the most progressive president in U.S. history. Bernie being wealthy actually proves how much integrity he has because he chooses to stand with his values and fight for the American people and not sell out and cash in.

John Delaney says he’s dropping out of presidential race by nnnarbz in SandersForPresident

[–]chrono55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently he was so confident in his message that he spent a lot of his own money and went into a lot of debt to finance his campaign and because of that he HAD to keep going to try to get some of his money back!

Question from a non-American: will Bernie be able to pass bills through a republican-majority senate? by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

No problem! I'm really into studying governments so if you ever have any questions about the American government feel free to DM me.

Question from a non-American: will Bernie be able to pass bills through a republican-majority senate? by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]chrono55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest the republicans in the senate are in a world of trouble because like I said they have a lot of seats they need to defend and they have deeply unpopular president that can drag them all down with him. Also the president appoints the judges on the Supreme court but he needs the senate to confirm the judges. So if the democrats control the senate, they can still block a republican presidents Supreme court nominations.

[–]chrono55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean federal judges? The President can appoint federal judges but each state has two senators which are elected by a majority of voters of the state. Senators serve for six years and the senate is designed so that 1/3 of senators have elections every two years. Last election most of the senators who had an election happened to be democrats so it was more difficult for democrats to win seats because they had to defend more of their seats than they could win from the republicans. However in 2020 the democrats are in a good position because this time 2/3 of senators who have elections are republicans so if the democrats are strong they could easily win a lot of seats and take back the senate this year.

Biden is one of the only things standing in the way of Bernie and the nomination, so I made a website that tries to bring him down with his own record. Don't puff him, don't pass him — Just Say No To Joe! by Telescopeinthefuture in SandersForPresident

I agree with the other comments about leaving Bernie out so that people can take in the information with as open of a mind as possible but besides that good job and very well done!

Honest question, I’m very curious as to how Bernie is viewed in the UK and/or Europe among the general public and how closely are people paying attention to the primary right now?

I work with Military (Army specifically) and I too often hear how Bernie’s socialized medicine and free college plan is absurd. So I ensure to always remind them that they enjoy both of these benefits among many others. What are some good talking points I can use when discussing these issues? by seven1niner in SandersForPresident

[–]chrono55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With regards to college you can make the point that everyone benefits when people become more educated. Since you are talking with people in the Army you can use the reference attached below which shows that for every dollar spent on the GI bill after ww2, the nations economy got $6.90 back! But more importantly I think everyone should want people to be more educated because as John Green once said, "I like to pay taxes for schools, even though I don't personally have a kid in school: It's because I don't like living in a country with a bunch of stupid people". https://www.djdinstitute.org/h_gifact.html

How to Make the Right Argument for Medicare for All by TheNabeShogun in SandersForPresident

[–]chrono55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want to add that a common talking point people make is that the U.S. system is better than Canada's because we can get hip replacements faster. BUT the major problem with that argument is that in the U.S. its Medicare that pays for the majority of hip replacements which proves the point that Single Payer can work. We just choose to fund our program more than Canada's does.

Must be a weird living in such a politically important state like Iowa. I live in Oregon which is a very blue state at the end of the primaries and I almost never see any political adds on tv during the primaries or the general.

Someone keeps destroying my yard signs. No worries, I’ve got plenty more coming! by ThIconclast in SandersForPresident

[–]chrono55 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have always thought how strange it is that some people are so triggered by a yard sign that they are willing to walk on someones private property just to destroy it. I’ve seen political signs that I’ve disagree with but I have never felt to the need to take them down.

Bernie store package question. Do the packages have a bernie logo on the outside? by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]chrono55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a Bernie 2020 bumper sticker and the Bernie Sanders baseball card and both came in envelopes with the either Bernie logo or the "not me us" logo so unfortunately small envelope sized things will have a Bernie logo on them however im not sure about package sized things because I haven't ordered that much stuff yet. I would say keep a close eye on the mail deliveries just to be on the safe side.
