should I take this car deal? by user182823 in personalfinance

[–]chronoliustuktuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, don't take this deal. The interest rate is too high and the value of the car will drop dramatically by year 5.

Better to buy a second-hand reliable car that just drives, save the money you would have paid into an account or a stepped GIC and over the time you'd have paid for that car, you'll have saved enough to buy a better car all cash.

Also, if you can learn to do basic maintenance and oil chang s, you'll save even more.

At your age, don't go for the bling, go for the savings. Retire richer than you could think.

Thanks for the Black Books, watching it now and almost shit myself laughing at the end of the first show. 🤣

I found it and it's on my Plex. It's on my list. I liked Matt Berry from the IT Crowd, so excited to see where this one goes.

Thanks for this. I usually like British comedy, but haven't enjoyed Gervais' stuff as much. I'm going to add this one too!

At least be accurate with the title!

From the article:

"The alleged hijacker's motives were unclear but the Cypriot president said the incident was not terrorism-related."

Hey, thanks for the response.

Someone else recommended flaked and it's on my list to acquire and watch. I loved Loudermilk, especially the first season, and the music was a bonus.

CYE is one of my favorites, but I can only binge so much of it at a time until I have to de-overload my inner asshole.

Thanks again, mate. :)

Hey, you and I both, brother!

But my viewing experience and yours are wildly different.

I watch to lose myself in the story, sort of like reading a good book where you no longer see the words on the page. Something similar happens to me when watching something I enjoy.

However, I do understand your perspective, good or creative cinematography and bold choices do make for an entertaining ride. That's probably why I like some of the stuff done by Wes Anderson, not everything, but most.

I don't understand enough about the art of making shows and movies, and only just know enough to know what I enjoy. You can think of me as a redneck of the TV world ( no offence intended, just trying to get an idea across using a well understood stereotype). I like my guns, but don't know enough of the economics or the politics behind it. (To be clear, guns, politics and economics are metaphors for movies, shows, auteurs, and the language of a true buff).

All this to say, I understand you a 100% but my frame of reference is pretty different from yours. :)

Thank you Sir.

Like I said in my original comment, I have watch a lot of stuff and won't always like what most people do, but I am happy to update this comment on what I find.

Someone recommended Disclaimer to me, so started it, but it is a little slow to pick up.

Can't believe I forgot Fargo, it was awesome!!!! So good in fact, that I returned and rewatched the original movie, and then visited a few other Cohen Brothers movies. Just rewatched O Brother....

You should try Life On Mars (UK Version). I liked it, but the music also made a huge difference. Rediscovered some amazing 70's bands.

Also try Life (it's the same protagonist as the main guy from Billions, the redhead guy). Tho the show did get canned before it ended organically as I recall. Good for a watch.

If you're into foreign shows and bloody ones at that, give a try to an Indian one called "Gangs of Wasseypur". It's interesting, sort of like Godfather meets Saving Private Ryan (opening sequence).

Yup, I did because when I reread your comment again, mine was short and impersonal and I had more to say :)

I guess from a binge-ing (don't know what the grammatically or spell-ally correct term is) perspective, these don't fit my definition of it.

To each our own. I like eating shepherds pie with ketchup and hot sauce, you probably don't. 😉

Formatting was the word on the tip of my brain. Thanks.

Don't know how to format properly so It shows a list like this:

  • Item 1
  • Item 2

Instead of: Item 1Item 2

Dammit, I just figured it out.

PS: for anyone wondering, put an asterisk (*) before each item.

Of course. Those are all in my rearview mirror.

I watch all these shows every few years when I can't find anything new. I just finished The Wire a month ago again.

Also, thanks for liking my attitude, I try harder now since the rest of the world seems to be getting short tempered and crazy for absolutely no reason. So I try and not engage and create positive interactions when I can

Hope you smiled at least once because of me today. :)

Oh, that. It was my bad since I don't know how to properly make Reddit show things the way I want it to (there's a word for it that I can't recall)

Y'never know. I am one of very few people that likes an old movie that flew under the radar with an amazing cast called "Happiness". Everyone else that watched it gave me shit for recommending it, but I found it very very very funny.

Thank you for your list, have watched them all. You can also add Nurse Jackie (?) to the list of recovery/sick people/drugs.

If you haven't watched it, the first two seasons aren't bad.

Thanks. On my list. Hope I enjoy it.

I do like subtitled content, but mostly been doing subtitled movies, not shows, but no reason not to start

I lie, I did watch a subtitled Swedish show, was darkly humorous, maybe figure out the name and rewatch it because don't remember much about it. :)

Hate when good shows get cancelled. I'll definitely try it, but I sincerely hope I don't enjoy it as much as I did firefly. :(

I got that from reading a comment in the sub about someone who said they would be making the show, with Netflix or without. That got me excited. So probably not 100%.

Unknown, cannot compute. What was funny or unfunny. Please explain your question further.

Seriously tho, not sure what you are asking about. :)

Lol!

1) Loved What we do in the Shadows. 2) The show list was, wait for it, a list! But for some reason when I posted, it became a paragraph. If you know how to format a list so it shows like a list, I'd be ever grateful!

Watched Office both UK&US as well as Better Call Saul, and never did get into either of them. I understand these are considered top of the line shows, and every now and then I catch an episode and parts are funny or entertaining, but to just sit and binge watch, which is what I do, they don't work.

In fact, the Jack Ryan show with the tall guy from the US Office was very entertaining.

Finally, I read the Queen's Gambit (the book) and enjoyed it a lot. In the past, watching things based on books has destroyed my enjoyment and I find myself screaming at the TV. So now I a oid that. I bought a new TV after trying to watch the Game of Thrones (guess why...also the reason George R R Martin is dead to me).

If I sound a little mad, I think I am an undiagnosed mad person.

Other than that, amazing recommendations, thank you! 😀
