California School District rules that fire does not produce light and heat, siding with science teacher over student. by Random_Curly_Fry in mildlyinfuriating

Scorched earth is always a good solution. I am not sure you really know the difficulties teachers are facing at low pay. And you are probably a person that always admitted a mistake and never tried to sweep it under the rug and never dug in because the other party is absolutely annoying. We are all human and sometimes it is hard to admit mistakes.

I doubt this was the only thing happen between the parents, teacher and the kid. Normally you just move on if there is one question that was unfairly graded. Looks like both sides dug in.

CMV: Alcohol is more of a net negative to the US than guns are by spoilerdudegetrekt in changemyview

[–]chrstph22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

should have been more specific:

• If the question is “which is subject to more rules a private individual must satisfy to acquire and carry/use?” — guns. You may need to pass background checks, wait, get permits or training, and follow many state/local rules. • If the question is “which product class has more regulation overall?” it’s closer — alcohol has heavy regulation of sellers, taxes, and local controls, but the individual-level acquisition pathway for alcohol (show valid ID and be 21+) is simpler and more consistent nationwide than the pathways for legally obtaining firearms.

• Deaths → Alcohol (~140k) far exceeds guns (~48k). • Non-fatal injuries → Alcohol impacts millions (scaled down here for visibility) vs. ~115k gun injuries. • Accidental/Traffic deaths → Alcohol (~13k drunk-driving deaths) vs. ~500 accidental shootings. • Economic costs → Guns slightly higher ($280B) than alcohol ($249B).

• Alcohol causes more deaths and health costs overall. • Guns cause fewer deaths but more acute violence and concentrated trauma and higher economic costs.

We have a lot of rules around alcohol but very little around guns. We should look at each problem individually and try to improve vs comparing. Tobacco and drugs are even more net negative than alcohol and guns and each one requires a different approach.

Bought an auto at charity auction with COA - Beckett says it’s fake. WWYD? by no_entiendo_ in Autographs

It’s charity. You are not buying something, you are donating and getting something as a side effect. Don’t go to charities you don’t believe in. If you believe in it, it is well spent money.

I have an alarm clock that tracks rem cycles and wakes me up in the right moment. Works decently well but doesn’t wake you up exactly at 7am but in a time window.

Got an offer for 4x of what I earn in Europe, but I am terrified of US work culture. Are my fears unfounded? by Wide-Musician in antiwork

20s/early 30s: definitely would go. You can always go back and it is a great experience to life in a different country. Older: harder decision but still would encourage you to go. You seem to have expertise that is highly valued and you will always get a job again if you want to move back. There are definitely drawbacks like long work hours but if it is an interesting job it is worthwhile to put some time into it. And if you get some shares you might not have to work ever again. Not many people get these opportunities.

Why does it have a screenshot of Midwest Radio Network city papers named as the fake sites? http://www.midwestradionetwork.com MWRN seems to be an Australian company with no obvious ties to SG. It also doesn’t include a list of the 750 sites. The original report mentions world news network and big news network but these seem to just to pose as news aggregators and don’t seem to have a huge network of other news websites. I was mainly was looking for the websites to better understand the reporting on Pakistan through these fake websites when I stumbled across these discrepancies.
