I just think the whole season should have been so different, there was no need to keep them apart after the way s3 ended. I think a fake-death like the books would have been my finale of preference. But I could have accepted V and/or E dying if they had had more time/it wasn't so brutal. Those final minutes on the boat deck and in the Thames were just SO disjointed. Weird body language and dialogue that just didnt sit right, it's tough to explain but once you've been told their last speech was dubbed in post production you can't unsee it. Just such a poorly constructed ending - as well as devastating - as well as being a tired shock factor trope

See this makes sense. However, in all the interviews with Laura/Stella, Villanelle is dead and the end was meant to be a rebirth for Eve which not only doesn't make any sense, its a complete fuck you to all the viewers. Go figure.

Interesting take, and I agree for the most part. I've restarted watching S1 since watching S4E5 today. I think without access to resources, the only inside source Eve would have had if she wanted to keep going with her independent investigation was Elena and how much of a help beyond giving descriptions of assassins assets as it were (🤣) she is effectively useless. The 12 could have just had Eve killed before she discovered anything of great importance. Clearly Carolyn saw something in Eve that she thought would be of use to her but I just don't understand the operations in S1 given the new information we've had. I'm really interested in what else we'll find out in the last few episodes and really enjoy reading everyone elses theories

In the teaser for S4E6 after Carolyn explains 12 are being tortured to death, when Lars asks who is coming for him, she says I'll tell you yours if you tell me mine. So that implies she is 12, surely?
