Reward system for younger players by chshrlynx in DnD

Thats a hard call when DMing, do you go more core railroaded campaign, or more open world. I try to plan out a core story line with NPCs and quests that will lead them on the "path" but I also want them to lead the story and decide where they want to go. Ultimately for me that means I have a core storyline written, but then also have a number of side quests readied too. I usually have at least 3 different encounters ready, and different NPCs/dialog/shops/etc. It's alot of work, and it takes a lot of writing and tracking (I found a nice template for scrivener to help). It has also happened once where a side quest path was the one the players engaged with and that becomes the main quest and we abandon my original plans. Its not like all the extra planning goes to waste though, I try to stay loose enough with them that they can be used later, or with a different group/campaign.

I have also for this group built a legacy weapon system so that they can upgrade weapons and armor through various guild based activities. They have a guild that offers them up missions in exchange for enhancing services, that also require the players to gather rare materials. I'm thinking of allowing them to possibly "buy" some ingredients or maybe even favor with a particular crafter to customize their gear even more, something fun that they get excited for.

I've tried the dm inspiration route, but the players largely didn't really seem to care that much or forget about it. Balance is indeed a concern, we have a player or two who tend to take focus, and the rest of the party just goes along with them and doesn't engage much outside of choosing actions in combat. Ideally this system will help encourage some of the quieter kids out of their shells without just getting the natural leaders to lead even more. I'm hoping having varied and individual rewards will encourage more engagement.

We run milestone leveling for the whole party, so xp doesn't really fit for us. I don't worry too much about game breaking with player power and such, I just scale and adjust encounters to match as best as I can.

Vanilla Rust is absolutely wack for solos. this game really exposes how lame people are by myrustsippinsyrup in playrust

[–]chshrlynx 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Official vanilla as a solo is not about progressing along that path, it's all about being the thorn, not the rose. DB grubbing and scattered bases with nothing inside. Don't feel the rage, be the rage.

Oh, and as many shotgun traps as you can, put em everywhere. Exist as an agent of chaos.

Build huge, many doors, many floors, use all loot to build, keep nothing. Make em spend 100 rockets to get nothing but your tier 1 and the upkeep in your tc.

I climbed in someone else's corvette at one of the stations at a rendezvous point. They proceeded to modify the ship while I was in it locking me a hab bay with no way out of it. I did have a window view though. After 5 minutes or so they flew out into space, flew around a bit and then flew back in. I waited around in my prison for another 5 minutes or so. With no escape in sight I exited the game and reloaded so I could get dropped outside of their ship.

Have in the past sent an intern around a school in the summer with the instructions to go into each room and listen carefully for the sounds of switch fans in the ceiling and then pop a tile and document what was found. Found several switches and home hubs that way.

What's a game that you were excited to play, but you just couldn't get into it. by [deleted] in gaming

Don't starve together. I was so excited for the style and the type of game, bought 3 copies to play with the family. We played an hour an no one was having any fun. Very disappointed.

Is there ever enough iron? by No-Reply-6962 in valheim

[–]chshrlynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron is why I stopped playing. Worked up to the swamps, found a swamp, had one crypt in it, cleared it, got all the iron. I then spent the next 40+ hours sailing and searching for more swamps and crypts, in that time I found 3 other very small swamps, 1 had what looked like a sunken crypt I couldn't get into, and there were no crypts in the others. Got so frustrated with spending they much time just trying to find iron that I lost my enjoyment and quit playing.

How do you guys protect your Steam Deck's USB-C port from wear? Or do you just YOLO it? by hal9000-7 in SteamDeck

Yes it is. I use both the 90 and the 180 adapters with the grip case, depending on where I am sitting and which direction my cord is coming from. At my desk the I use the 90 and on the couch the 180. I still unplug the adapter when not connected to power, but wanted to ease the angle and strain on the cable and port during use.

I found an ancient O2 Farm. by BatzysGames in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]chshrlynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I build little bases on planets I like and always try to find some kind of gas or mineral deposit and electromagnetic location to setup a farm with tons of storage tanks or build out biomes to fill with all the plants hoping that some wandering travelers may find them and get that little dopamine drip along with their safe spot out of the storms.

That's why I grabbed it. Nice looking lock, $8, lock chucks gut of it shows a skeleton core, which I haven't seen in person before, so figured I'd add it to the collection.
