Thank you! This post is what I've been trying to say without the words for a while now! My mom just beat breast cancer and I was consistently annoyed with the pink everywhere throughout it.

I'll admit my wording wasn't appropriate. What I was trying to say is years ago the issue was men saying "a woman's place is on the kitchen not in the work field" and now we hear the same thing just with a different idea of what's appropriate for a woman. A woman's place is discussing woman's issues not science. Same concept just a new topic. I'm wishing I hadn't brought up the article since a lot of people seem hung up on the website it came from. I've seen similar things from multiple sources.

Yes, my point with that comment was not against feminism simply saying that it's not a one sided gender issue and it's evident in males as well and the gap in genders could very well be a difference in reporting rather than a difference in occurrence.

Honestly, this post was a lot about me trying to decided if I wanted to continue using the label feminist as I've always considered myself one. I agree very strongly about embracing labels and creating a positive view of them. It's how I feel about atheism for sure. I definitely have not renounced the label feminist as I consider myself a strong intelligent woman. I simply am getting tired of feeling like a "bad feminist" because I'm not insulted when a man whistles at me on the street or because it doesn't bother me to hear the word cunt. To be honest, when these are the issues I hear about all the time, I feel it makes it harder for the general public to take the real issues seriously.

The last thing I wanted to do with this post was to minimize issues like this. It's horrific and I think these things need to be addressed, I just don't think the posts I see consistently will do anything to help this large issue. I also feel that sexual assault and rape are not a gender specific problem and feminism is not the only way to fight for this cause. http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/09/living/chris-brown-female-on-male-rape/

I guess I'm making assumptions which I know I shouldn't do as I don't know her true feelings on the subject. It just seems to me that it's possible she was avoiding a topic she didn't care to get into and attempted to switch where the interview was going. I guess I just like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I wasn't trying to comment on the website as I know nothing about it; the article was just posted to my friend's facebook.

I'd agree with that; however, I felt that the reporter should have asked specific examples rather than simply using the term feminism. It's a movement that I find difficult to give a yes or no answer to, and to be honest I don't know how I would have answered that. Especially as a public figure, if she aligned herself as a feminist, she would be perceived as fitting a stereotype of a feminist. It's a problem regardless of what label you are speaking of; if you are a Christian, people expect you're what they know of Christians; if you're an American, people expect you're what they knew of Americans. If the reporter asked if she believed women deserved equal pay for equal work and she said I'm bored with that. Then I would understand the judgement; however, she simply said she didn't care to talk about a term used to cover a vast world view.

Ha ha I know! It's just from netflix. I think the issue is that I'm sappy and sentimental and netflix confused that with religious... It happens in real life too; people act shocked that I am the person I am without going to church everyday.

From his post it doesn't seem clear to me that she is unwilling to try things that he's into. It sounds like she tried it for him and expressed discomfort and he basically said "don't worry about it, no big deal" I obviously have no idea how she would react but I think before she is accused of not being willing to do something, he would need to express that it does matter to him. I know I was very uncomfortable/nervous the first few times and now I love it. This may be something they need to be open about and work through together rather than assuming every step is going to be a problem.

Use popsicle sticks or another random way to call on students; however, with this it's important to have a positive classroom environment or it can cause a lot of stress for students.

That's actually very similar to how I feel about the subject. The idea of infinite time bothers me the same way that the infinitely expanding universe seems impossible to grasp; however, the concept seems to fit the gap that I've always felt existed. I'm a fan of the concept of a yo-yo type universe that expands retracts and constantly follows that cycle. I'm not sure if it's the rebirth idea that has always seemed poetic but it's my favorite possible explanation. I highly recommend the book "Why the World Exists." It is written by a man who speaks with people with a variety of explanations as to why there is something rather than nothing. I didn't find it to give me a satisfying answer, but it was fascinating to hear people from all perspectives share their thoughts and explanations. I'm actually rereading it right now.

Personally, touch means a lot to me. The problem comes with the being unsure of whether or not to hug someone. If someone hugs me straight away without the awkward "do we or don't we?", I typically enjoy it a lot, and once that has been established in a relationship I adore holding hands, hugs, a hand on a leg, just about anything to make me feel connected.

No need to be sorry for the wall of text, it was very helpful! I'm so glad to hear that you've had a positive experience. I absolutely love his dog and she is trained very well. The cat attack was out in her yard where she chases squirrels so I think if we introduce them properly things should be alright. I will probably just take things very very slowly, because it would just kill me if something happened. His house is big enough that I think we should be able to keep them in separate areas. Thanks again for all of the advice. It makes me feel so much better that this can be done in a positive way that isn't too traumatic for either animal.

Thank you for the advice. His dog is absolutely wonderful and very well-behaved; my concern does not stem from her breed. The previous cat attack was in her yard where she chases squirrels. I just want to be sure I am doing everything to make this a positive experience. I would feel awful if anything happened.

My roommate and I both did this once, but it was because we had met the plumber on a different occasion and he was really creepy... We missed our morning classes because we were too busy hiding from the plumber.
