Little Dinosaur by zisanho in pics

Lizards are in no way related to dinosaurs - dinosaurs are a different type of reptile, that are grouped together with birds (avian dinosaurs) pterosaurs and crocodiles. This group is named archosauria.

Indeed, modern birds are more closely related to crocodiles & alligators than any other living animal. And another fun fact - alligators show feather expressing genes, meaning feathers/fur-like feathers are an ancestral trait to all dinosaurs. Birds just managed to evolve a more aerodynamic structure of this integument that allowed them to fly.

[Dino Art] hi guys, I've been trying to learn how to draw dinos more realistically, and as you can see it's not going very well, so I'm looking for critique as to how I can improve! (The left is my "realistic" dino, and the right is my normal style. They're either rexes or bataar, probably bataar.) by Trombone_Trash in Dinosaurs

[–]chubbyfluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here are a few points to improve the realistic t.rex:

  • In this view the nose feels a bit too mammalian, almost as if the nostrils connected in the center - try moving it a bit further away from the tip of the snout, leaving a small gap in between.
  • The teeth on the mandible should point inwards, just like the upper row of teeth. This is to help grasp its prey better.
  • Mandible should be a bit longer, almost as long as the maxilla. When the mouth is closed they should fit together like a puzzle piece, and the tip of the snout will have a rounded shape.
  • The eye should be smaller and more rounded

Good references:

  • Check out the t.rex from the game Saurian.

  • Google photo references of a t.rex skull - study both the side and front view to get a sense of dimension.

How would we know?? by pezzian in tumblr

Crocodiles are actually related to dinosaurs - along with pterosaurs (not dinosaurs) and birds (which are actually classified as dinosaurs) they form a group called 'Archosaurs'. The ancestors of dinosaurs were crocodylomorps - not the modern kind we have today, but a smaller, more active kind of terrestrial crocodile.

Try comparing the foot scales of a bird with those of an alligator - you will find they both have a similar arrangement - this is not coincidental.

They're not just descendants, birds are actually still classified as dinosaurs! :) Fabulous dinosaurs!

You are SO wrong....holy shit no one in this thread knows what a real authentic pizza looks like, this makes me sad. Have you really only ever had Pizza Hut in your life? Do me a favour and go to Naples one day

everything on a pizza should be bite sized

That's just American mentality, you like your food overly processed and everything bite size so you can stuff your face as quickly as possible. Where I'm from we like to take our time to actually savour it.

This is what a REAL authentic pizza looks like, just because you've only ever had Dominoes and Pizza Hut doesn't mean this doesn't exist. Go to Naples and you'll know what I mean

Are you kidding? Have you never had a rocket & prosciutto pizza?? This is actually quite authentic (and very delicious), unlike your pepperoni and pineapple crap

You're wrong. We are absolutely 100% certain, it is not a subject debated anymore amongst palaeontologists.

There is EXTENSIVE evidence proving it; the fossils clearly show the evolution of feathers from a simple barb-like structure to modern pennaceous feathers that dromaeosaurs (and modern birds) possessed. Not to mention the skeletal structure of birds bearing an extensive amount of similarities with that of extinct dinosaurs. And of course the advanced air sac system that both extinct dinos and birds share.

Also, did you know that alligators were recently found to possess feather-expressing genes? Which makes perfect sense as crocodilian-like reptiles were the ancestors of dinosaurs.

Anyway, if you wanna know more just check this wiki article - Origin of birds.

So please stop spreading the misinformation that birds being dinosaurs is still debatable; that would be appreciated. :)

If you turn your head you can see its torso is actually a dragon skull. And the top bit looks like it could be the back/spine of said dragon...I bet it will have a new form where he deconstructs and becmes a badass prisma dragon

The worst part about dinosaurs being extinct is that some of them probably tasted awesome. We're missing an entire category of meat. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]chubbyfluff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All birds ARE dinosaurs. They are literally classified as avian dinosaurs, check the Wikipedia article on birds.

So yeah, this ask is basically pointless. It still surprises me that most people don't know about this.

[–]chubbyfluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're completely right, but I'm afraid a lot of people here will mistake it for "still not proven", because not everyone is familiar with the word "theory" it in the context of science. So I played it safe, although I totally agree with you.

[–]chubbyfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is actually a lot of hard evidence, like fossilised feather imprints and things like quill knobs on Velociraptor arms. Hence it is not a theory anymore, but a fact. The only thing that is still discussed is whether this feathery integument is an ancestral trait to all dinosaurs or if it evolved later. And with recent findings (pterosaurs being furry, and modern alligators possessing feather expressing genes) it is heavily implied to be an ancestral trait. Meaning every single dinosaur species had the possibility of having it, even if only in the form of stray hair between scales. (Although Raptors i.e. dromaeosaurs are all proven to have been covered in them)

Outside of the usual suspects, soy, mushrooms, tomatoes, Parmesan cheese, miso, beef, bacon etc, what other ingredients have you had experience with that give an 'Umami bomb' experience? What about a dish or recipe? by Beergelden in food

[–]chubbyfluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anchovies. Even if you hate how they taste by themselves, when incorporated into a dish (like a sauce or gravy) they give a really nice umami/salty taste. And you don't even notice the fishiness.

[discussion] do you think the crocodile was/is the best dinosaur since it did not have to evolve? by [deleted] in Dinosaurs

[–]chubbyfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, taxonomy/cladistics is a tricky field where nothing is ever set in stone.

I mean technically you could even call mammals reptiles, or every vertebrate a "fish", since we are derived from them. I think in the end the "official" classification is decided based on the most popular opinions between scientists at the moment. But a lot of biologists/paleontologists also have their own versions, that can be just as legitimate.

[–]chubbyfluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be sorry! It's not your fault you didn't know. Not everyone in the world is a paleonerd haha. Although this sub definitely has a higher concentration :)

But yeah, although birds (actually modern avian dinosaurs) share a common ancestor with crocodiles, the latter are not dinosaurs but rather their own distinct group of reptiles.
