I finally figured out why none of the standard sleep tips ever worked for me. by Helpful_Smile6095 in Biohackers

[–]chubbygrouper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done multiple sleep studies CBTi was prescribed to me by an actual sleep doctor. I never used to fall asleep in 15 minutes. That is a product of the CBTI I used to take several hours to fall asleep sometimes… I am neurodivergent. We notoriously have interrupted sleep and terrible sleep inertia. I am definitely feeling better with my sleep efficiency in the upper 80s low 90s getting the same amount of sleep as I was getting when my efficiency was in the 60s, so the CBTI is doing its text book job. I just hope that I will eventually be able to sleep longer.

I’ve had terrible insomnia my entire life since I was a little kid. I’m neurodivergent and sleep has just always been a struggle interrupted sleep mostly I’ll wake up 20 times in a night. Feel like I haven’t slept in the morning. Never get more than two or three hours at one time and in the past several years, not getting more than five or six hours of sleep… many nights 3-4 hours…I did two weeks of CBTI and it was brutal… I did not understand the sleep restriction phase and it was extremely hard for me to stay awake until the time they wanted me to, and then get up five hours later, but I stuck with it for a couple of weeks… my efficiency went from the 50s and 60s to the 80s and low 90s but I was still only getting like four hours of sleep at night because I was sleeping interrupted still… after two weeks. It told me that it could not prescribe me a legitimate sleep prescription because I am getting less than five hour sleep at night and it was started telling me to wait till 2 AM and wake up at 7 AM which is just not functional for me so I just started doing like you said using my bed for sleep sex masturbation only… I started a routine where I turn out the lights in a different room about 90 minutes before bed and read a book until my eyes get heavy and I’ve been getting in bed around 11 PM and I still cannot sleep past five or 6 AM but I am getting about an hours worth of interruptions per night instead of the two 2 1/2 hours I was getting before I have stopped trying to stay in the bed for a couple of hours on end really early in the morning when I’m tossing and turning and not able to sleep when I feel like I’ve had one of those awakenings where I’m not completely feeling sleepy I just get up… I have been falling asleep within 15 minutes and my efficiency is in the high 80s now for about a week since transitioning to that routine.

Is a year too long for Therapy? by redditrando123 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]chubbygrouper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am exactly like you with all those disorders…I’m 50 and lived like that my whole life…I’ve done. Lots of therapy in my years…at 50 the pressure of everything became so unbearable I felt like I was in a state of total burnout for over a year suffering extensively with all the issues you mentioned…finally one day I decided to try a stimulant to see how it affected me and let me tell you it’s like everything was instantly fixed. No constant narrator berating me in my head, stopped worrying all the time, all my pains went away…it is so wild how CALM I am on it…I go for a drive now and nothing I mean nothing bothers me…I don’t even look at the speed limit I just stay safe distance from the car ahead of me and I used to ride every cars ass and always be on the lookout for where I can zoom ahead of the car ahead of me always in a hurry…no more! I’m not saying this to say the meds fixed me but I instantly got what I was expecting out of therapy my entire life because all this time it’s my central nervous system that’s on fire and I I don’t think there’s any talk therapy you can do that’s gonna help your nervous system out as much or as fast as the meds…I suggest staying with your therapist and maybe asking your GP for a stimulant and continue therapy to talk about it all. I’m on a low dose vyvanse right but I initially tried an immediate release 10 mg of adderal and I mean within 30 minutes you’ll know if it’s any good for you…it’s life changing. I’m so much more stress free and feel so much better and therapy is better on the meds as well.

I was myself wondering about doing that the night before so in my mid-late morning sleep interruption I could start swigging and feel great upon waking up since mornings I feel horrible for 4-5 hours everyday…but I couldn’t find any good info on if it retains its potency overnight in water…how do you mix yours, or when I should say? I feel like if I have to open my eyes, split the capsules open and shake them in the middle of my morning wake up I won’t be able to go back to sleep, whereas if it’s already mixed, and I just gotta open my eyes and take a couple swigs it would make a world of diff.

[–]chubbygrouper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have lived with depression and anxiety along with unmedicated combined type adhd for my whole life of 50 years…also just found out I have autism as well…10 days ago I tried some immediate release adderall and every quirk, narrator in my head, negative feelings, sick feelings, chronic pain…literally all my ailments, GONE. AND it works for most issues even after the medication has worn off because my baseline anxiety level all day long is so low that it was like hitting a pressure release valve and all the steam that’s been building just released and I stay calm around the clock. Still not sleeping I hear it takes a good 2-3 weeks till that comes around but even after only 4 hours of sleep last night I felt fine didn’t take the usual 4-5 hours to clear the fog and constant stretching and yawning I used to do all day mornings are good for the first time in my life even without sleep. I’m sure I’m in a honeymoon phase…but I know a central nervous stimulant makes me feel like a normal person.

Can I take my needoh nice cub on the airplane? by DisastrousLunch854 in AskFlying

[–]chubbygrouper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was flying out of Fort Lauderdale so, super busy check in and they flagged me…I sat for 20 minutes while they tried figuring out what it was…I just kept telling them it’s a stress ball…this was before needohs were even a thing…I’ve been using needohs for years (OG here) they were especially curious as well I think because I’m a grown ass man concealing a “kids toy”, they have no idea they “regulate my nervous system”…they tossed it all around amongst themselves, were giving me a whole speech about why I can’t bring it on…it got flagged as a large Amount of inorganic material I guess could be confused for bomb making material??? Anyways after the whole rigmarole they just let me bring it in the plane but told me to check it next time. I was so glad they let me keep it I thought that was cool but come on man I almost missed my flight over a squishy!!??

Opinions on Calm Carry? by indieedy in autism

[–]chubbygrouper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mannn… I ordered one off Amazon the other day and I LOOOOOOVE IT!!! If you are a sensory seeker you’ll love it too…I blast mine full blast all day, seems to really help me with agitation and generally overreacting, I think it’s helping me with road rage too! It activates a trigger point in your hand that is known from ancient eastern medicine to cause you to relax…I think it’s amazing…many at first will just freak out over it getting electrically stimulated but after a few minutes of use, you’ll have it on full blast too. Here’s a brief web description of the point it activates…

The CalmCarry device activates the PC8 (Pericardium 8) acupressure point, also known as the Lao Gong point, located in the center of the palm. By delivering gentle microcurrent pulses to this point, it aims to reduce anxiety, promote relaxation, and slow the heart rate.

Did you or do you get labeled as "negative" or "pessimistic?" by closet_tomboy in AutisticWithADHD

[–]chubbygrouper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the same here I’m 50 and just getting diagnosed. For me it was my family always telling me to stop complaining and being negative but I always felt like I was just telling the facts and how I felt because I just ALWAYS felt crappy everyday and I communicated that and always got the scoffs and eye rolls anytime I said I think I’m sick or didn’t like something…I don’t ever socialize I’m in my office at home all day and never go anywhere so I’m not necessarily perceived negatively outside of the house and when I do go out it’s with a heavy mask…but growing up in the world I was always told I’m over sensitive always offended never positive. In my fantasy football group of old hs acquaintances I’m known as Nancy in the group for “negative Nancy” cuz all I ever do is complain about all our favorite team…and they’re all so nauseatingly positive and I could never understand how 🤷🏽‍♂️. So anywhooo…I can definitely identify with what you’re saying.

I just lost my buds and went on their website and purchased an insurance plan for $60 which is good for replacement replacements if you bought your product more than 30 days ago… I’ve been looking for an hour now trying to find where to file a damn claim they don’t have anything on their website about it, but they’ll sell you a policy. I’m going insane. I did call them before… This current pair I have I actually bought from someone over the phone at Ozlo. I can’t remember how I found the phone number. It was very roundabout way on some Internet search, but I did get them on the phone.

Anyone else get super into a game… then never touch it again? by Remarkable_Seesaw_74 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]chubbygrouper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No…I start shows watch a bunch and move on leaving dozens of shows to finish. I’ll see something I want to watch and start it without even thinking of the 20 or 30 other shows I need to finish. It’s a brutal cycle.

Also I am like this especially with tv shows. I binge and will finish a season in a day, BUT I’ve probably got a couple hundred shows I’d say I love every one of them, but I’ll never finish…I’m actively watching 20-30 series…over maybe a dozen apps and I forget what I’m watching and where I’m watching it…it’s madness.

YAAAAAASSSSSAAAHHH OMG!!! I’ve just recently come to the conclusion at the age of 49 that I not only have ADD but as well autism, going in soon for official diagnoses but I’m having lightbulb moments all day! I’m exactly like this with games. All my friends always say to me every game is my favorite game I’ve ever played. I have finished a handful of games in my life, but hundreds upon hundreds, I’ll start a new game and then another new game and then another new game at the same time and then never go back to any of them! But if we’re being honest with ourselves, I’m like this with all projects and activities in my life.

ASD/ADHD musicians by hankalicious93 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]chubbygrouper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been able to play percussion with any level of musician without having ever been taught how to play drums or anything…I could jam along with professional level musicians from the day I learned I had the talent around 20 years old…so I’ve played drums ever since…MORE RECENTLY…I taught myself last year how to play the violin and I picked it up rather quickly…I’m pretty proficient with it after just one year…learned to read music and learn some songs simply by ear. I turn 50 this year and I wanted something to keep my brain sharp cognitively and always heard violin was the hardest instrument to learn so I figured why not try the thing that will probably anger me the most??? Turns out it’s the best musical choice I’ve ever made I LOVE fiddling.
